>>182861I know that feeling. It's painful.
Sometimes I'll spend weeks researching build options for exactly what I want to do, but then when it comes to actually putting stuff on my sheet I get impulsive and fill it with useless garbage just because I wanted to try something new.
You could consider retraining/rebuilding though.
>>182863It's fine, especially with the correct or a delayed initiative
>>182870 →>Im fine with any use magic device checks alsoOh good, you recognize the best skill in the game. I got UMD as a class skill through the Apprentice feat, but I didn't have enough skill points to rank it up.
>>182872Ngl, I'm curious if I can even get the polearm to work. Brie simply doesnt 'get' magic (obviously), in the same sense that Han Solo doesn't 'get' the force. There are obvious applications - enhancements convenience magic and what not - but REALLY complicated magic is something he thinks is more of a fairy tale.
For example, if Rosey were to just "say" her undead nature, Brie would first not believe her (in spite having observed evidence of her regeneration and the vomiting of blood) and would then have a breakdown realizing that sort of thing is very real AND right in front of him
>>182878Most magic weapons work as you swing them.
However, if the weapon has an unknown command word or similar trigger for a use activation, your UMD check should make it work, and reveal the activation method
In case a bolt of lightning surges put it it... Just assume it's aimed at Posey and nopony else.
>>182880>aim it at PoseyUhm, he wouldnt aim a device he is unsure of at anypony,... unless he really didnt like them
>>180954Pertaining to your bat shopkeeper, or "Lacey", as you call her.
Your character is in concept very similar to the character that I was going to make as my cohort: the ghoul bat, who represents the Black Horse of Famine/Inflation, specialized in the business side of d&d and smuggling. I understand that it is frustrating for someone else to make a character of the same race and similar class/archetype in the same party, so I will refrain from doing so.
Instead, I propose a compromise: what if we merged and co-owned the character?
You said you wanted to roleplay a shopkeeper/smuggler, but you weren't interested in the mechanical aspects of running a business in 3.5e. I have an opposite situation: I was very much in dabbling with the mechanical side of 3.5e business management, but idk if I have the free time to commit to roleplaying multiple characters at once (also, the character I was going to make is ultra evil, and DM didn't seem to like it).
So what if we, instead, co-owned the character as so?
You receive:
>Full creative license for the character's personality and backstory>Opportunity to roleplay the character in and out of combat scenarios>Opportunity to roleplay the character in any scenario/emcounter rolled on the DMGII business development tables>Decision making authority for how to manage the business/guild>Suggestion to request mechanical abilities on the character sheet>Veto authority for egregious mechanical traits that break the character's theme>The majority of the profits from the business to spend as you see fit>Accounting services: no need to manage the character sheet or profit checks related to the business>Promise of cooperation: Posey and her undead minions will comply with the needs of your business, within reason.I receive:
>Opportunity to build a character sheet that is optimized for business management, shopkeeping, and general in-city roleplay support (class, feats, starting equipment)>Responsibility to manage the character sheet>Partial creative license to make suggestions for the character's appearance, ambitions, and development>Management of all rolls, tables, and accounting related to running a business in 3.5e>Roleplay benefits to my other character: we can share NPC contacts (I'll introduce you to Licorice for alchemy services)>A portion of the businesses's proceeds, representing the Dread League's connections to the criminal underground, as well as favors with smuggling black magic implements>The potential opportunity to turn the character into a Gravetouched ghoul and have them take up the mantle of Hunger, if and only if the character dies >>182885Oh, lets not get too hasty. Lacey is not intended to be a combat or even mission-invved character. Her establishment will it's self host at least one "mission"-type social event, but she is not intended to be one who goes out seeking wealth, she's designed to be somebat that others come to. So, if your intentions were to have a mission-based bat of similar personalitytheme, there still wouldnt be a conflict overtly.
Additionally, there are alot of details to her background that GM is custom-fitting and contextualizing, such that I dont think that even on the off chance that your proposed character and Lacey were operating in a group, they would tend to compliment eachother by way of their shared skills and abilities. They might even appreciate having a comparably skilled specialist like themselves around. Friendship is magic and shit. Xp
>Co-ownershipo_o
No
>>182886Okay
Just pls don't be offended if my ghoul comes off as too similar to yours. I just wanted to make a character that was specialized in smuggling, RP support and making money.
>>182887Her colors are Off-white, Pink (around the eyes, ears, nose/snoot, hooves, the bones of her wings, and tail), and Burnt Cherry (the super dark shade, in her mane and the webbing of her wings/tail. She is intended to be of a particular variety of actual vampire bat, its self based on the white vampire bat pictured (notice the tail :3).
At current, she is effectively a Lucky Roll recolor, but the odds that I'll get art commissioned is very high.
And yes, Ive already admitted that without knowing/intending, I kinda made this one, at least on a semi-visual level
>>182885>>182886>no:`c b-but whyyy?????!!! I thought it was a cute proposal. I love coop!!!!111
It reminds me of that scene in a puffinforest vid, "Oh, I heard you were looking for slaves. Funny we should run into each other because we're seeking to become slaves ourselves. You guys want slaves. We wanna be slaves. Maybe, maybe we could work something out over here."
>>182886>So, if your intentions were to have a mission-based bat of similar personalityThe opposite, actually. Posey is extremely diligent and mission oriented. I wanted to make another character that was different and focused on the economic side of things.
The black horse of Famine's rider bears s set of golden scales, so I think it needs to be an economy-oriented character.
Was thinking of a character with the following feats
>Merchandise Background (good for buying/selling items)>Wanderer's Diplomacy (smuggling mechanic lets you track down and smuggle items, Diplomacy support)>Silver Tongue (more Diplomacy applications)>Business Savvy (bonus to profit checks managing business, Luck bonus to all skill checks and attack rolls in any encounters that emerge related to the business developments).Mercantile Background, Wanderer's Diplomacy, and Business Savvy all have mechanics that only kick in once per in-game month, so taking them all at once would be a character that's specialized to stay in shop and manage a business, making profit checks once per month. Not exactly good for adventuring, but incredible for downtime grinding.
For class I was thinking of Master (business profession specialization), maybe Multiclass Rogue/Master. Idk.
Alternatively, Nightstalker, or Multiclass Rogue/Cleric (high power alternative).
For colors, sable coat is necessary for theme, was thinking purple bell-pigtails that hang on either side of her head affixed with gold bands, in a way that resembles merchant scales. CM is a set of golden scales.
Anyway, it was just an idea to consider. I'll make my own businessmare.
>>182891No, but genuinely you can obviously decline whatever ypu dont feel like bu I did think the propsal was kinda neat and nice. But it's not my character so i get.
>>182893I was just tryin be funny^^
>>182891Yes, it was adorable,... still no.
>>182892Depending on how flexible you are willing to be with certain more-but-not-immediate specifics (and I say that on GMs behalf, not mind) she might end up an equal partner/co-owner/executive. I would be willing to help structure that.
>>182895More-but-not-immediate background* specifics
>>182892I came into Lacey's character creation wanting to make a female counterpart to Brie. Eventually I settled on a very detailed, ostensibly reasonable ask, which GM said "okay, but can we tweak these few details, specific to Baltimare? If we do, I have something planned that will allow you to do exactly what you intend, in this specific context I'm already working around.
Without spoiling
<Ah fook off, Lacey' amoong th Wo'er froon' gang... so theres plenty of possible reasons that Lacey and... yours might come to be in business.
>>182897Well, if I'm building, managing, and roleplaying a separate character all on my own, I think I might just rather make a cohort that serves Posey and fits my biblical prophecy theme more precisely. Idk.
I just wondered if you might be interested, so I could still have fun with the business management and profit check mechanics, without having to divide my/GM's attention so much with too many more characters.
>>182898Understandable. Outside of the social, Lacey will be there to interact with other players (and npcs, in context) exclusively. I acknowledge that you want to do through the stats and rules what I want to do through theme, concept, and a bit of permissive scripting by GM, but not by actually calculating applicable skill points, feats, backgrounds, etc.
There was already talk of Lacey being a/the General manager, on behalf of either the Waterfront Gang, her family, both and,....
It is generally themed to be "Her" business, but there may be partners/executives and investors/interests, and yiur character could be a part of that. I only 'know'what Ive told GM, and he has assured me that whatever does happen is effectively guaranteed to NOT happen by new year, and (no offense) knowing how this game can slow at interval, I'm setting a prospective deadline of June. Plenty of time to figure something out.
>>182901I reserve the right to a shcindler's-esque list
>>182898Any decent business needs - aside from financing - an executive, an accountant, and a general manager. Lacey would ostensibly be the General Manager/COO. That leaves the accountant/CFO, and of course the CEO. Theres room, wherein they can be both Rosey's counterpart, AND formidable/positioned in their own right, which would befit an /4 horse
>>182903>I reserve the right to a shcindler's-esque listWhat did he mean by this?
>>182905U said TZD, and I'm reserving the right to "not kill" some of them
At first, at least
>>182919>he thinks Im asking permissionCorrect, TZD will be achieved
>>182927Hmmmmmmmmm
Seems like a good deal, Dark Star doesn't believe in souls anymore anyway
>>182937>Seems like a good deal, Dark Star doesn't believe in souls anymore anywayPerfect!
I will make you my Death Knight.
>>182941Well fine, I wont share with (you) anymore
For the rest, heres a crude Ponytown rendering of Lacey, including some accoutrement accents and inclusions.
A glinty-gold pair of delicate spectacles adorns her face, held by a band of beads and fine crystals (which, a sufficient search check will reveal a hidden garotte wire).
The dress is obvious, though she wears fine/mundane stockings on her forelegs. Her dress is fine silk, and with a decent investigation check has hidden shurikens.
Her fine silk purse (matching, of course) is equal parts. The purse IS a purse, but from a hidden zipper its a thieves it, and the chain strap is actually a disguised chain whip. She has a (hidden)bladed fan ar her waist, and she wears a really old, but seemingly repaired and embellished-looking martial belt (double-wrapped around her dress, of course)

Okay. Done playing with u today
>>182986I was playfully and slightly meta biting. Jesus fuck, not cock biting

Uhm,Brie's cock isnt on the table, fuck off
>>182982Was this cuz of this? Jesus
Fucksake, I sure as fuck wont get creative, thats for damned
>>182984
sigh
And just when I had thought you two were finally getting along.
>>182998
No. No it isn’t “just a shit post.” Your character may have +14 to bluff, but you don’t. No reasonable person is going to look at a post saying “rolling to bite x’s cock off off.” And think that that post is anything other than an overt act of hostility against the other person to show publicly that they hate them.
>>183007
Ill be more careful about tacitly allowing players to be emotive
For fucks sake. Why would you even joke about that. Like seriously, I thought we were working toward a good place, but now youre just WEIRD. In your ass
>>183005>overt act of hostility against the other person to show publicly that they hate themThat's really not how I meant it...
