This the "Give me an encounter, NOW!!!" spell. It's one of the most interesting teleportation spells in the game, exclusive to the Paladin list, letting high level paladins fulfill the role of fantasy superheroes appearing wherever they are needed. I've used this before as a convenient excuse for why Sir Not Appearing In This Film appears as a Deus Ex Machina to save the party when they died in the first encounter of the adventure, and then promptly disappear.

On a TV show most or at least some people viewing it don't know that the reason a character isn't returning is because the contract wasn't renewed with the actor. But here, we all know what happened. We know why a player character isn't here right now. Do we need to drag that meta knowledge into the game? Can we not just be silent?
I could write a multi-paragraph essay on why that "in character nerfing" was not merely unnecessary but actually very wrong, but I stay silent on most things

Oh, I thought it was a fun, creative sequence, but I'll refrain from doing it again if you dislike it.
I also wanted to express Posey's relationships with her masters in the league, her position as a slave, the origin of her desperation to become a master (to become free of service), and looming consequences of failure. It's all been in my head so far, but the other players can't see that unless I express it somehow.

I also wanted to express Posey's relationships with her masters in the league, her position as a slave, the origin of her desperation to become a master (to become free of service), and looming consequences of failure. I wonder if I can use Bluff or Intimidate to taunt enemies into shooting me first. I didn't take any damage these past two encounters.

I really liked this encounter. It's fun to fight more conventional monsters like Ettin(?) or Howlers, since it's closer to classic d&d. No complaints about the fight. Don't take my falling asleep as criticism; I was just sick and has to pass out.
It would be a lot more fun with level-appropriate treasure rolls though, since we have been consuming resources these past couple fights. I know summons don't drop treasure, but we have been fighting them in a context of general or summon traps, so perhaps there's other treasure in the vicinity. Everyone likes treasure.

So as I understand that sequence, it was Posey’s masters being mad that she hadn’t made extreme progress in conquering Equestria. Basically because she hasn’t conquered Equestria (or seriously started it) in two weeks. This is just, well
1. I cannot believe that they sent Posey to conquer (immediately) rather than be a spy. I cannot believe that Dread League mages would expect a single apprentice slave with no outside support and almost no support at all was going to conquer the strongest and most magical continent on the planet quickly, and then would bow down and pledge her allegiance to the dread league masters, and expect this to happen without tipping off the other two continents that an undead invasion is going to happen and thus make the Dread League’s work vastly harder. The reason Posey was sent was almost certainly precisely because the dread league is aloof and isolated. They know this, they know it is a flaw, and want to try to remedy it.
2. Two weeks is nothing. Hearts of Iron 4 is by far the fastest pace of the Paradox games, measuring time by the hour, and yet still it takes 180 days to even get a war declaration. EAW forces you to take two to three years before you can start to gain war goals. The Dread League is by far and away the most extreme example of this. They can’t invade their first nation until five or so years into the game, and they can’t begin their black crusade until about nine years into the game, which is the end game for basically every other playable faction
3. Perception of time decreases with square root of age. The older you are, the less two weeks seems like a long time. I don’t now how old the Dread League leaders are, but I very seriously doubt they are significantly younger than the 40+ year olds that rule the other nations. Two weeks or even a year is nothing to them.
4. Premature ejaculation in Equestria hurts the Dread League Globally. As stated before, there’s like a 99.999% chance that a lone slave with no help is going to defeat all of the princesses. If and when that happens, it’s like a vaccine or inoculation for the rest of the world. Undead have vulnerabilities. Once everyone knows “oh, we have to fight undead” they prepare themselves for it. This makes the Black Crusade more likely to fail. If it were that easy, the Dread league would have done this a millennia ago. And then what if posey succeeds? Is she just going to bow down to her masters? No. Obviously not.
5. It reinforces posey doing exactly what I don’t want her to do. The logical conclusion is “I need to go faster! Pick up the pace faster! Do things faster!” Can we just not?
6. It defies very basic logic. If the problem is that she’s not conquering fast enough making her weaker will make the problem worse.
7. Premature ejaculation is bad for Posey. If posey did exactly what she planned on doing but, you know, waited until after the black crusade was in swing, then she could actually help the black crusade even if she failed, and she’d be infinitely more likely to succeed. Imagine if Posey’s first act of war were to destroy the navy of New Mareland or the Changelings on the eve of them entering the war against the Black Crusade? That would be infinitely more helpful than killing a bunch of civilians in the southeast, getting her ass kicked by whatever combination of factions it takes to kick her ass, and then the whole world throws money at whatever Paladin orders remain.
8. The way in which it was done was a little immersion breaking. It speaks by shouting through a floating, flaking seal skull inside of a flooded, cramped engine compartment in a small fishing vessel. The problem is that any of the other party members or the griffins may have been down there, or heard the skull speaking

Well, I meant this partly as a joke. Rosey Ring has an archaic, out-of-touch, medieval and belligerent demeanor. The idea was that her masters, being centuries older, would be several degrees more extreme.
I acknowledge that it doesn't make sense though, and that they were giving her a mission with impossible standards, and were punishing her unfairly for not succeeding with flying colors immediately, to a nonsensical degree.
She also let that Paladin get away instead of killing him, which is strong infraction as far as the league is concerned.
I was inspired by how devils in the nine hells treat their generals, where even a single failure or lack of immediate victory is punished by immediate demotion.

Well, I've only expressed it subtly since the beginning of the game, but Rosey's masters have no intention of helping her expand her powers, because becoming a master herself would mean that she no longer is bound to serve them, so they have no reservations against knocking her down a peg and retarding her actual progress with unfair tasks and punishments, when they weren't draining XP from her every day ala Ritual Of Transference after battle.

After I got some level-appropriate gold from this quest, I wanted to take some downtime. Acquire some land, start a business, make a few profit checks, etc.

I think regular soldiers carrying standard issue cure potions and maybe some magic ammo would make sense. Equestria is a high-magic setting, so militaries should have at least as many common consumable magic items as conventional guardsmen in d&d. These guys probably drank or mindlessly discarded their potions, but maybe the next ones will have some, along with the ~4k in treasure an encounter of this estimated CR would have.
Least/lesser augmentation crystals are fun loot too. They attach to regular magic items and make them stronger.
Maybe we might find a vault that contains the entire payroll of a fleet in gold. Rosey Ring is more interested in gold than anything else, since she's trying to acquire land, open a business and eventually raise an army.
Or just utility items. Or shekels. Maybe just open the SRD or MIC encounter treasure roller, and reroll anything that doesn't make sense.

I still really don't think magic weapons or any magic items have been overrepresented in the loot. I will say, so far some loot would be nice. Silver has a household of NPCs to think about. Also potions because we're starting to accumulate more damage than we've been able to heal, and we'll need them to keep up with future encounters.
Also, can we just say that we're taking pictures of these monsters as we're encountering them now? I'd really like to have some proof that we're fighting literal demons so we can get paid more by Shoal Water, and I don't think we're going to remember to do so OOC before every encounter.

Hey, if we present photos of every encounter, we can demand bonus payment from Captain Waters equal to the average treasure value for these encounters, which we can equate o the amount a mercenary would charge to kill these monsters.
The last encounter was CR ~9ish (if the Starfish are CR 3), and average treasure value would be around ~4184.3 gold pieces. The last encounter was probably a bit less than that, although I'm not sure about it.

I'd really prefer it if a player RP'd taking pictures. The problem is that nobody wants to do it. Brie volunteered but hasn't done it, and Cavaliere has to worry about his carry weight. If no pony else wants to then we might as well make it automatic.

I'm going to second what >>185294 says. You use a shit load of acronyms and half of the time i have no idea what they mean. This is especially bad when you use acronyms to name various add on 3.5 books that you know none of us have ever opened. You're at least doing better than Brie's player, who uses both acronyms I don't know and British slang words, but for all you complain about NPCs not speaking English, you don't seem to want to speak english yourself.

I'm usually okay with saying "Oh yeah, that happens" but I feel like the camera is one situation I should put my hoof down and force it. This is for a number of reasons
1. Because taking pictures is high risk. It basically means a character can't attack in that round
2. Taking pictures is high reward. It gives the possibility of negotiating higher pay or other rewards
3. Because I don't like equipment and other little details being consistently overlooked, and at some point I kind of feel like players should be rewarded for detail and interacting with the environment versus not doing so

This is especially bad when you use acronyms to name various add on 3.5 books that you know none of us have ever opened. You're at least doing better than Brie's player, who uses both acronyms I don't know and British slang words, but for all you complain about NPCs not speaking English, you don't seem to want to speak english yourself.

1. Because taking pictures is high risk. It basically means a character can't attack in that round
2. Taking pictures is high reward. It gives the possibility of negotiating higher pay or other rewards
3. Because I don't like equipment and other little details being consistently overlooked, and at some point I kind of feel like players should be rewarded for detail and interacting with the environment versus not doing so

I don't want to put it up to a roll with our luck whether we get paid extra or not, it would be genuinely extremely disappointing to fight all of these monsters and get nothing extra for the effort.

Unreliable/missing evidence is a classic trope, and we did kinda drop the ball especially last night. That all our monsters either vanish or arent mind controlled anymore, its kind of hard to assume we would be on it right away

Shouldn't there also be a standardized reward for winning the encounter at all?

I agree with this, particularly since this is a milestone game and we're not getting to count our XP after battles. If there is neither XP nor treasure nor substantial reward, it kind of just feels like we're leaving every encounter weaker than when we entered it (taking wounds and consuming resources), when it should be the opposite with encounters contributing to our progression as heroes.
Sure, combat is fun, but the feeling of advancement after battles is also part of the fun.

It's already established that the quest giver won't pay out for the torch job unless there was photographic confirmation.
I don't think it's unreasonable for characters/players to have this tiniest of hoops to go through for what is probably thousands of bits.
