When you play the Civ 4 Realism Invictus mod on an Earth Map, often the Mongolians or the Bactrians (a Central Asian civilization) will happen upon a unit promotion that gives their fast horse archer units several extra first strikes. It's absolutely terrifying, they can kill your heavy infantry units without taking any damage at all, they'll conquer or burn pretty much everything and can send whole hordes into Europe
