Set six years after season 6, Occupied Equestria presents an alternative history where the Changelings have conquered half of Equestria, while a former Equestrian colony - soured to Princess Twilight's notion of harmony with all creatures because of their encounters with griffins - Invaded and took the other half. In Baltimare and the Equestrian Southeast, the magic of friendship has weakened, as Communists, Changeling infiltrators, Fascists, gangs, and corrupt creepy politicians threaten the city. This role play is based in large part upon the Equestria at War mod for Hearts of Iron 4, and uses D&d 3.5e mechanics
Shimmering Spark, Onyx Steel, and Brie Achtungsex now make the perilous crossing into the Changeling Lands. In Baltimare, Dark Star prepares for his next big assignement, while Silver concludes his mentoring of traumatized foals. Much further away, Iron stands under jeweled nighttime skies, preparing his next move

>>106021Pear is now laying down, apparently reading from some kind of book, on the opposite side of the fire
>>106023"I have a question regarding the finders fee."
He takes a step forward.
"Do you have an estimation of how much it would be for the pots?"
>>106024She looks back up and probably over her shoulder to her right at Iron.
“A ‘finders fee’ is a tradition based upon maritime salvage operations where an owner of the lost treasure is known and easily located. The industry custom is 10% of the whole. Archeological sites don’t follow the Law of the Sea, they are under the Antiquities Act. The Antiquities Act states that historical artifacts older than 300 years belong to the cultures that produced them, which is kind of a legal vacuous term but it generally means the government, but the government’s claim can also be taken by public institutions. In this case, it would be the Tenochtitlan Autonomous Area. Peer Review had this grand idea that it would either be exchanged to the museums in Tenochtitlan and Baltimare in exchange for ‘donations’ and ‘established scholarships.’ Possibly some of it would be on display at the university for possibly a small fee, and in any event they could make money selling books about it, or petition the government for more funds. There are circumstances where parts of a cache can be sold privately, but I don’t know the law well enough. Of course, with the change of administration from Canterlot to Sunset, it’s not even clear that the Antiquities Act applies at all.”
>>106025Iron's head cocks, confused at how his question triggered an explanation of what is a finder's fee compounded with Peer's donation tactics and the possibility of the act that allows the fee being quite malleable.
"I want actual numbers, not percentages. Do you have an estimate?"
>>106026“But that’s exactly the thing. A finder’s fee is usually paid in percentages of the whole. Unless you want a payment as a guard, or something. That could be a flat rate.”
>>106027He shakes his head.
"That is not what I mean. I am trying to say how much does this particular find is worth."
>>106028She shakes her head
“I cannot know that. I don’t think anyone does.”
>>106029Iron blows some air from his mouth.
"Not even a possible estimate on your part?"
>>106030“I don’t... I don’t know. 30,000 bits for the value of the whole? How is it being sold? To whom? What governments want to claim it. It was a less risky investment for Dr. Grant, because the publicity alone was worth it, even if they never got a cent. And they could milk the publicity.”
>>106031Iron blinks a couple of times, dumbfounded.
"So the pay itself is extremely turbulent depending on the one to compensate the efforts?"
>>106032“What can I say, it’s not easy to sell what you never owned”
>>106033Iron stares blankly at Pear.
"I see."
He does a light bow.
"I thank you for your attention."
With that, he goes back to Cauldron, now quite a bit tense himself.
(Would Cauldron really accept only 3000 bits to start her business? What if goes even lower than that?)
AUTHOR’S NOTE:
I don’t really know what the laws for the ownership of historical artifacts is in most nations, but judging by the fact that most of the more interesting artifacts end up in government-owner museums, the government probably claims ownership. In Britain and France, for example all or most major artifacts extracted by their respective nations are displayed in their national museums... even when these were blatantly stolen from other nations. The Untied States’ Antiquities Act of 1906 states that all artifacts found on Federal and Tribal Lands - but not Private Lands - belong to the Government (probably Federal, maybe Tribal, I don’t know).
So where does this leave Equestria? Well, Equestria (in my portrayal - I do not know about the show) is what is technically an Empire that aspires to be a culturally homogenous nation-state. Thus it could either have a policy based on assimilation, where all artifacts belong to the central government, probably to be displayed in the big museums in Canterlot, or a policy based on minorities’ rights, where local governments would have the first claim. I think an interesting combination would be “Antiquities must be given to a relevant claimant,” possibly with local claimants having a ‘first pick’ or something. This would mean that either the local or central governments could get it, and they could compete by exchanging something in return, or in the case of universities, giving funding and grants to the university in exchange for giving up their own claim to be “the Equestrian public.” This would leave a world where money can be made off of historical artifacts legally, while still having realistic limits to what can be sold.
All that is really story relevant is that it is illegal to sell antiques except under certain circumstances, that it is still possible to make money off of Antiquities legally by means of legal fictions, and that the amount of money raised (directly) by selling it legally is much less than the amount it would sell for to private bidders on the black market in Skyfall.
>>106035>possible to make moeny but much less than private collectors.Hm, that's going to strain the deal quite a lot. He may just go away.
I’m back home everypony!
>>106034Cauldron is watching Iron approach
“Yes?”
>>106037Yay!
Spark cautiously looks around, not sure what awaits him.
>>106038At the moment, nothing is
coming to him. The hallway remains empty, the walls a blank painted white, and the room a bit cold, as if poorly heated
>>106037Ey, good!Iron slightlhy turns his head from side to side.
"How much would you need in order to start your business up?"
>>106042“I don’t... I don’t know. I never got that far in planning”
>>106043"Any big minimums like perhaps 5000 bits or more?"
>>106044“5000 is a lot of bits... but not more than buying a shop or store location outright”
>>106046This last sentence steels his resolve.
"That settles it. We are going with the black market deals for this one," he tells Cauldron.
"I made a promise."
With that, he starts to lay down next to her, stretching his limbs once again. He yawns quite a bit, too.
"That should be enough planning for today."
>>106047“You intend to go to sleep now?” She asks
Does anypony else want to play?
>>106048Iron nods, placing his head on the floor.
"The morning to midday could get rough, and I need to be as healthy as I can. The last thing I want is to pass out again from this bloodloss thing."
He rotates his now prone head to look at the zebra.
"Wake me up when the Sun rises. Hopefully it will come a lot later than I think it will come."
>>106049I'm here, but we also need Dark Star.
>>106050“Yes... let’s hope it shall be a peaceful rest. More peaceful then the rest of our days anyways”
>>106052Iron chuckles.
"Goodnight, Cauldron," he whispers to the zebra. "Be sure you rest, too."
With that, the shutdown process begins as he slowly closes his eyes as he casually fidgets into making both his and her coats make contact with eachother.
(I hope what I am doing will turn out well.)
>>106054Iron gods to sleep with Cauldron still up but going to sleep near him soon, Pear still doing whatever Pear does, the fire still burning, and the sounds of myriad insects and more distant birds. Further off still, monkeys howl
>>106053REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
>>106055Iron can't help in his asleep mind recalling the feeling of home from the sounds of the jungle, bringing him a smile on his face.
(Home.)
Uh... Are Dark Star and Silver here?
>>106057I could swear I just saw DS give you a boop. Silver is still here, maybe.
Boy, do I need some floof in my life! It looks like Dark Star is kill
>>106041Do I see and stairs from here?
>>106062Yes. Wooden steps with iron railing up. There might be windows over to the left of the entry door as well, and a hallway going straight forward
>>106063Spark decides to goes up the stairs, though that is typically what starts the horror movie's haunting.
>>106064This upper area is a bit damp. There are wooden doors to rooms off to the sides. It goes down a bit further. There is nothing visible in the hallway, aside from maroon-ish carpet floors and white walls
>>106065Spark puts an ear to a door before probably foolishly trespassing in these parts.
>>106066There is sound of sorts, yes
>>106067Am I able to roll to get a better clue as to what the sound is?
>>106070A foreign language, and almost hissing sound
>>106071Welp. Spark decides not to trespass any more than he already has and heads back to the stairs. Perhaps he missed something on the lower level.
