This RPG is set in the land of Equestria after it has been conquered and split between the Changelings and a foriegn fascist nation. It is based in large part on the Equestria at War mod for Hearts of Iron 4, and uses D&D 3.5 mechanics
4 of the group have taken a job to clear a site of a future real estate development of undead. They seem to have stumbled upon a centuries old evil long forgotten by Equestria. Meanwhile, Ash has discovered foals from the order of Saint Prancis orphanage practicing dark magic and sacrifices in the woods, while Iron is having not-so-pleasant dreams

So, can I get clarification on this one line spoken by Father Lancaster Maren earlier in the game when he was talking about ghasts, specifically the part I boldfaced:

He means that the undead have desires that are pervesions of those of the living. The undead, obviously, cannot create new life like sexual reproduction. What they can do is infect new hosts like a virus or parasitiod. And that is what he means. The virus that spreads ghouls is kind of like their version of reproduction

Allegedly these are soft parts of the organism that are quickly eaten by savangers or decay quickly. Horse mutilation seems creepy to me, so I imitated it

And lo on this night in the game, while the ponies did go about their business, a darkened shadow did flit from rooftop to rooftop, almost as though propelled by magic or unseen force.
As it did traverse from place to place, the position it had occupied would resound with a loud "POP" and would be bathed in multicolored lights. On and on, this went on, where like a very slowly lit fuse visible only from high in the air, did this whoever bounce from point to point, raining "Dancing Lights!" down on those ponies who looked upon. And then, with the same swiftness that it had appeared, whoever it was vanished without a trace. All that remained was the smell of sulfur, a hint of the most basic of magics, and the warm feeling that somepony, somewhere hoped that everyone had a happy new year!

I was just wondering,since some undead spread by infecting their victims via the Create Spawn ability, like Wights and Shadows, while other are just created via intentional necromancy or some kind of similar curse.
Creatures killed by Wights become Wights in 1d4 rounds, which makes them much more dangerous than ghouls.
