The most recent set more closely mimicked chitin, fur, and in general, recognizable biology than the vaguely dog-like creature did, even if the latter came closer to resembling a known taxonomy than the former.
And second, this was absolutely not disclosed in the briefing.

So The island has a vaguely anvil shape. The southwest end and the northwest end both have hills. The party went along the western coast, and to a low point between these two hills where the whaling station was. East and a little north east from there is a narrower part of the island between two bays, like two inverted horseshoes. This is another hill, which the part is going to go climb up to lead to the old village.
The whole area is essentially deserted pastures and fields on rolling hills. Ruined stone walls that demarcated padlocks are still seen.

I'm going to have to make some charisma checks to leverage an additional bonus payment for this. Captain said monster activity would be scarce.... Momma wants a new cape of Charisma.
Also, did the monsters leave anything behind after they left? Body parts? Treasure?
Any alien gems, lovecraftian-god idol sculptures made of precious unknown materials, living-flesh magic items, talismans of unspeakable power, weapons made of the horns and teeth of monsters, or scrolls of aberrant spells?

The ewe moves around the ponies, and turns around briefly to look back at the party, then starts to proceed the way it was going at a slower speed. Mala leaves the cuddle pile to follow the sheep, clearly curious about it.
