Something tells me that the commie ponies are in a more perilous situation than the Navy ponies, and that even then the Navy ponies are probably not at the lighthouse.
>>183068 Yeah, a mysterious Also, of the navy ponies are at the lighthouse, they probably won't freeze to death. Heck, they could stay in there for days or even weeks. Lighthouses are cozy.
It's hard to tell which is more time sensitive. If we lose even one airpony because of the diversion I would count that as a failure. But, I don't want to miss the chance to investigate either.
>>183068 To look at it from a narrative meta perspective, the GM probably would not have given us the radio signal at this exact moment if diverting course to save the commies were not at least a viable course of action. Even if we have little reason in character to delay our objective to help our enemies, I doubt we will be punished for following what looks like an obvious plot hook.
>>183093 Well technically, the radio section only existed because Silver's player said "hey, we could talk into these radios to the commies, right?"
I would have continued the radio thing a bit further if the lecturing on "taking a 10" hadn't pissed me off so much
Something that should be considered relevant: the area where the commies are (the old village) is the geographic center of the island, and in between the bay where the Kostroma is, and the North Bay
>>183099 "But…what if it's somepony very odd, like that one old unicorn who was here the other day buyin' underwear for a griffon he claimed was his lover? Surely somethin' like that deserves a little gossip?"
>>183100 "Well, it's still rude to mock him to his face. Also, a griffin lover isn't that weird. Well... Maybe a little. But be open minded, even if it seems strange. Err, is strange."
>>183101 "I suppose…" she relents with a sigh. "Some ponies just act so strangely. Can you believe one of my co-workers made a bet that I would fall in love with a zebra? Really!" Her muzzle scrunches in vexation.
>>183102 "Heh heh, what? I don't suppose you have. This, colt. He's not a zebra, right?"
She stands up, and looking back towards Amber "And don't be so closed minded. What is wrong with dating a zebra? I've never done it, to be sure, but I don't see what the problem would be."
Her mouth gapes open in shock. "But, but, they're not ponies. They come from far away, they look so different, they eat strange foods, and-and they are often rude and smell bad too. I've never heard anypony say there's no problems to it before."
>>183104 Somewhere in the distance, a zebra raises his head as he takes a pause from the grass he's munching at his hooves. Over the sounds of a unicorn and a bap yelling at each other over Zanit knows what, he thought he heard something. Eh, must have been the wind. He returns to his snack while he waits to hear what the others are doing.
>>183115 >What are we doing? We are contemplating either going right to the lighthouse, or rescuing the commies who are being attacked by unknown forces. We're leaning the latter
>>183119 Dust would likely be more interested in helping the ponies in immediate danger if the rest of the party believes the ponies we're supposed to be finding are fine for now.
>>183120 Alright, I think that makes four of us. Majority rules. Let's go help those godless commies. >>183095 We've decided that going to the source of the radio signal is more interesting. The mission can wait.

>>183134 "Well they visit the store, for one. I can't say I have any zebra close friends, or... 'lovers,' but I have made acquaintances with few, yes, in business and social circles. Like a musician who plays at local night clubs, and I'll see periodically at functions."
>>183139 If it's an interesting check, I'll respond

To Cavaliere:
Cavaliere is able to figure out quickly enough how to get to the desired location. The valley between the hills leads to a ridge of a third hill, and on this ridge is the old village
>>183149 The grass is short and often brown, as there is clear sign of frost damage. Dust can at least get a mouthful.
The valley between the hills leads to a ridge of a third hill, and on this ridge is the old village. Simply go straight from the whaling station, more or less.
>>183169 The fog has thickened dramatically, making it hard to spot much of anything ahead. The mist around the ponies starts to swirl, and smoke starts to materialize in random parts of the air. The air around them, for so long not much above freezing, begins to warm dramatically.
>>183294 Sea Stone stares at Posey "मी येथे तुम्हा भौतिक लोकांच्या इच्छा पूर्ण करण्यासाठी आलो आहे. माझी निर्मिती लवकरच तुझी होईल."

>>183306 "Can't be too careful." He takes some of the cloth and stuffs wads into Sea Stone's ears. It won't block all the sound but should make overhearing the party harder.
The party has made its way to a sort of valley, just inland from the whaling station. The ground is covered in partly dead grass. To left and right, the ground raises slightly. There is an ancient stone wall to the left within view. The dense mists prevent any view further than 100 feet.
Standing on the wall is a black figure that removes a 5-pointed star, and four or five feet tall. In the right is much the same. The ground moves, and the misty air visibly rotates in unnatural vortexes
Sea Stone speaks loudly, though he fails to make eye contact with anypony
“Who here would look refuge from Death? Our fellow traveler can grant it, once he figures out what death is. But not for this creature. He is much too kind for that.”
He starts to speak in the strange, black language the white unicorn insists on, “ सूर्यः त्वां दहति।”
Above, as if from a flare, the mists glows orange, illuminating the field.
Silver calls out to whatever entity it is that the idiot Stalliongraders have brought onto the island that's controlling the fog and playing games with their minds, "Show yourself or leave us be, but either way do not waste our time with mind games!"
>>183308 Posey grits her teeth and hisses, silently swearing to drive this invader from her world.
"Let us go." She says, stepping forward "Whatever this entity is, it is not welcome in this world. It would be unbecoming of me as an exorcist to let it do as it pleases on this plane..." She tossed her mane fabulously and draws her sword, readying herself for battle, trotting off into the mist. She casts Chill Touch, getting ready to expend her touches later.
>>183315 Silver moves to stop her from leaving so suddenly. "Let us not split up. We must remain as one, as to not let whatever this is from dividing and conquering us."
>>183308 Dust looks at the pony with a rath confused face? "What do you mean a refuge from death? Death is not a coming storm Death is not the grave of worms The end of all who are here is death And that is an end that Zanit giveth
To shy away from our end Is a hate for the life we lead This is a fate you cannot bend As the earth produces our feed Back to the earth our bodies are fed." Dust looks up to see the source of the light. He tightens his cloak and regrabs his flail, uttering a short prayer that whatever comes will be quick.
The figures in the distance vanish in a disruption of air. The ground moves.
Then from the air, smoke moves, and out from it pops out two creatures, more or less identical to each other:
They look like massive jet-black starfish, with purple hued interiors, and a single big black orb that must be an eye. It stands on a single tentacle-leg. One is to each side.
From the ground, and to each side, something pops out of the ground. It is massive, like a five foot long cross between a snake and a centipede with black, chitinous exoskeleton, though it is covered in brown fur like a tarantula. It's eyes are not easily seen, and its mouth is a beak with three, long tentacles.
>>183326 Oh sure, everypony roll higher initiative than me. Stupid dice. >>183329 Do the IDs not show up as colored for anyone else? Cause that's honestly how I'm keeping track of everypony.
From the ether, two more creatures start to materialize, standing in front of Posey. There are tall, fat, and with arms that hang low to the ground. They assemble as if from the mist itself.
>>183348 Kira lets out a series of frightened expletives in her native language before drawing three arrows and wheeling around to get a better view of the enemies. She targets the centipede currently being grappled by the far more brace bat with precise shots, firing two arrows with her first draw at once, then the third arrow on her second draw.
>>183348 >>183356 Cavaliere holds out his masterwork revolver at foreleg's length and shoots the centipede that Brie is grappling with. Because he has the Precise Shot feat, he doesn't take a -4 penalty. [1d20+8 = (14+8) = 22] He shouts to Posey, "You might want to ease off on the taunting until we understand what we're dealing with!" After shooting the centipede, he moves back until it's just within his first range increment.
>>183355 >>183357 "You don't get it! I have dealt with these kinds of abominations before. They will not relent until everything in every world is just as twisted as them, unless they are chased away outright. Violence is the only language that they understand."

>>183376 Well, neither Silver nor Kira even know what that language was, so they wouldn't know that it's the language of demons or what have you.
Power Attack: Silver centers himself on his connection to the earth, and channels the strength of the world into an almighty blow to hopefully end this starfish's existence in this world. "Leave this realm and return to your own!"
He raises his sword, and brings it down with enough might to crack and shatter the earth beneath the starfish.
Cavaliere smiles subtly as his shot blows one of the aberrations away into dust, but this lasts only a moment as he scowls when he sees Posey turn into some kind of infernal Transformer.
>>183376 >And the fact that she spoke Abyssal right in front of everyone isn't a concern? It could've been an elective in high school. Sanskrit for infernal is quite suitable. What would we use for Celestial? Ancient Celtic?
Silver, Dust, please don't sleep yet. We need you.
>>183382 >Transformer She looks the same. Well, she's got her Frightful Presence up, so she's got the fiery red aura of supernatural pain and fear, but otherwise she hasn't changed.
>>183379 Are you trying to argue "acshually it's not abyssal, it's a different language"? Because you used the lawful-aligned language to communicate with an entity explicitly described as chaotic?
>>183381 Chyik yik yah! The sword slices right through the starfish, severing it in half. It starts to evaporate before it falls to the ground.
>>183385 >Because you used the lawful-aligned language to communicate with an entity explicitly described as chaotic? Yeah... I probably should have used Abyssal...
>>183376 Dust doesn't know wtf abyssal is. Hell, idk what the fuck abyssal is. >>183385 Dust looks around, trying to figure out what we're even dealing with. [1d20+9 = (18+9) = 27] While he's trying to recognize anything, he casts bless with a short prayer to Aztarte for his allies. Are those creatures from another plane or purely summoned creatures that don't exist unless some fuckwad makes them? Dust doesn't care, they're not undead and are thus boring. I on the other hoof, am curious and don't know.
The second centipede disappears, but two more creatures materialize
They vaguely resemble black quadrupeds with long forelegs, and two limbs that stick out of the upper shoulders.
In a way, they are like jet black ponies with no visible eyes, a head that hinges open at the very back, and wings that are bare bones, with mouths at the end of the bones
Were any of the aberrations affected by Posey's Frightful Presence? Was the centipede weakened by there Str-draining Chill Touch, or effectively demoralized?
I'm a pure debuff build. I need to know if my attacks are effective.
Both the Dread's have a Frightful Presence Creatures with 3 HD or less need to roll two DC 12 Will saves or be shaken Note that all fear effects stack, so shaken escalates to frightened, then panicked, then cowering if they fail consecutive saves

The mist around Silver and the starfish is parted with the force of the attack, and the ground again cracks and shatters where the blade lands.
>>183216 "Alright," Vir says and bumps her hooves together while rising on her two hooves , causing a meaty slap to resonate through the room. In truth, Vir is a bit nervous at the prospect of talking to a bunco of strange ponies, so she trying to convince herself more than anypny else. "I will simply go door to door, talk with the entire neighberhood, the police, the anarchists, and the Blackhooves, then I'll return."

They are incalculably diverse creatures, but they are universally bent on corrupting all around them with their madness..." She trails off, seemingly reliving a nasty memory
"To be honest, I don't really like talking with ponies in general, because when you wear your heart on a sleeve," Vir says and flaps the hem of her cloak. Her tan cloak that has Celstia's cutie mark cover its cape and once again a smaller sun over her hoodie. "I see happy faces too of course but sometimes I prefer ponies eye-rolls to their anger. >>183473 "Tee he he" Heather scratches the back of the silly filly big mare's ears
"Anything for a sister. I understand that emotion. I would if I could, too."
>>183472 Mala to Silver: "Well yes, but you can't have alligator, or octopus, or" licking his lips "zebra every day. These... monsters? Is that what they are called? They just disappeared. You can't even eat them."
>>183478 Posey has Cerebrosis: exposure to the far realm has permanently mutated her mind and driven her insane. Her experiences as an alienist are part of her backstory. Despite being a perverted masochist, there's only so much slime and tentacles a pony can take at once, and being thrown into the Cerebrotic mire to boil in the rotten puss flowing from the festering wounds of a mad god long dead was not the favorite part of her training.... >>183477 Rolling to assist Kira [1d20+3 = (15+3) = 18]
>>183479 "It will, I know. But there's only demon starfish around it seems. All I've had to eat since we left is bones. I am looking forward to being able to eat pony flesh again, or better yet, hippogriff." He looks upwards in ecstasy as he recalls some memory, then looks back to Silver
"I know ponies don't like it when I do that, but I feel like this whole thing we do here, well, that you do, is like a whole special exception to the pony world. Like, the pony society has rules. Very basic rules like you don't kill other ponies, and especially ponies with power. Then I saw you imprison my two superiors. You shot and killed the zebras that bullied me. And you killed that rich pony who was lord over us all. And you got praised for it. Paid for it. You fucked that griffin. You were loved even by the police for it.
Much of my life I thought that the ponies didn't like me because I was a kind of monster. The way I behaved made me monstrous to them. I thought I kind of deserved it and needed to be separate from the pony society. That is why I was with Sweat's society. I thought I could be accepted there, even though I really wasn't. Then I saw you, and I realized that it was okay to be violent, or carnivorous. It was okay to be a monster. Because monsters could be loved too. I could be loved too. By ponies."
I know people are sleep, I'm just gonna respond to Mala before we end up in the next encounter.
>>183483 Silver gives some more pets to Mala, smiling at his loyal friend. "You are loved, and accepted. And it is true, society has certain rules that you are expected to follow - and usually for good reason - but when someone decides to break those rules for their own gain to detriment of others, you need someone who is willing to break those same rules as well for good reason to keep others safe and happy."
>>183476 Vir pushes back into the hoof with pleased closed eyes. Then she realize the meaning of Heather's last words and sad look passes by her face.
She walks over to Flowercup and raise her hoof. She stops, hovering over Flowercup's head. A memory passes her mind's eye. A mare. She smiles down at her filly self. She reaches out toward her but hesitates. 'May I touch you?' 'Of course, you can. I luv u! Mother Justiney.'
Yes, I literally added Lunchly (it says it on my inventory, including the mold) to my character sheet just so I could make a joke about it mid-game. >wants to kill more
>>183476 Dust stops wishfully looking at the deadish grass in the area as he hears "zebra." He freezes, and his ears immediately start swiveling more than usual. >>183482 reeeeee
"An excellent show of force everypony. Since we have a moment, I have been meaning to ask,... does anypony know what the hell we are dealing with? First there was that strange beast our beloved whaling captain mackicked into being somehow, and now theres these, well I certainly don't know what you would call them but they're certainly not stalliongradii!"
>>183503 Dust shakes his head "Trials like these I have not seen before Though their rumors have traveled our lore I do not wholey know what is in store But a small bit from legends I can relay
Summoners, conjurers, witches, and cults Appear to be the cards fate to us has dealt Aberration's attacks are what we have felt I should say we no longer our mission delay
Vile forces are working against this shore To summon these monsters we abhor I would say the source is to blame for more But here I do not want to be another day." As Dust mentions "for more" he gestures towards the area they left the griffons and that one pony that was talking nonsense. Where are they anyways?
>>183503 Posey just mentioned that they're aberrant monsters of pure madness from beyond the realm of insanity who won't rest until everything else is just as twisted and insane as them.
"Interlopers from beyond the void. Some refer to these sorts of creatures as 'beachgoers', from their resemblance to loathsome sea creatures and their dual-worldly nature." She gestures towards the shore "Think of the Far Realm as the ocean, and our reality as this island. The Cerebrotic Periphery is the place where they intersect, like a beach, where creatures of land and meet and hunt one another. It is also known as the mire, for its swampy and foul appearance, like a wetland."
>>183507 They're not immune to crits for the most part. You should be able to sneak Attack them. But they tend to save psychic powers, so watch out for your feeble Will Save
>>183488 Mala looks up at Silver demandingly. For all Silver has given him, it is not enough. Pets are not enough. He wants more. He wants a hug. But in fairness, Mala is more than willing to give one back.
>>183504 While I'll leave most of the guess work to Posey, Brie discerns two things quickly
The Monster enocuntered by the griffins was of a qualitatively different nature than what attacked them just now. The most recent set more closely mimicked chitin, fur, and in general, recognizable biology than the vaguely dog-like creature did, even if the latter came closer to resembling a known taxonomy than the former.
And second, this was absolutely not disclosed in the briefing.
>>183505 So The island has a vaguely anvil shape. The southwest end and the northwest end both have hills. The party went along the western coast, and to a low point between these two hills where the whaling station was. East and a little north east from there is a narrower part of the island between two bays, like two inverted horseshoes. This is another hill, which the part is going to go climb up to lead to the old village.
The whole area is essentially deserted pastures and fields on rolling hills. Ruined stone walls that demarcated padlocks are still seen.
>>183507 Mala: "Oh, they have throats to bite and rip out."
When everyone is ready to play, Kira will give everyone the signal that she sees something. But first:
>>183511 Silver gladly gives Mala a big, floofy hug. There's no hesitation, no question as to whether he should or not. He just goes in and gives his friend a hug he very well deserves.
>>183511 >The Monster enocuntered by the griffins was of a qualitatively different nature than what attacked them just now. The most recent set more closely mimicked chitin, fur, and in general, recognizable biology than the vaguely dog-like creature did, even if the latter came closer to resembling a known taxonomy than the former. Can we identify any of them, or are they unknown, ambiguous homebrew aberrations? >And second, this was absolutely not disclosed in the briefing. I'm going to have to make some charisma checks to leverage an additional bonus payment for this. Captain said monster activity would be scarce.... Momma wants a new cape of Charisma. Also, did the monsters leave anything behind after they left? Body parts? Treasure? Any alien gems, lovecraftian-god idol sculptures made of precious unknown materials, living-flesh magic items, talismans of unspeakable power, weapons made of the horns and teeth of monsters, or scrolls of aberrant spells? Posey searches the ground for any loot for this encounter. [1d20+5 = (15+5) = 20] I'm just gonna leave this useful Magic Item Compendium based random treasure generator here: http://paulmurraycbr.github.io/MICGenerator.html >The island has a vaguely anvil shape Based unapologetic fantasy map enjoyer. Is Skull & Crossbones island close to here? >>183512 >monster approaching >hugs come first Based
Posey joins the group hug, sucking a bit of warmth out of it, but still soft nonetheless.
>>183514 Don't forget, assuming the Traveler leaves behind a physical body when killed, we can at least take a trophy with us from the body as proof of its existence. I'm certain ending a potentially world-ending threat from another dimension is worth a few extra thousand Bits at least.
>>183512 >>183514 Mala is massive, about on par in terms of mass with Silver and bigger than Posey. He is simultaneously very fluffy with thick fur, fat, and muscular. He wraps his hooves around Silver in his own hug, but then tries to place a leg around Posey when she comes up.
He smiles, and places his chin over Silver. His tail wags.

>Can we identify them They are slightly changed published monsters Posey can instantly tell that while they have some vague resemblance to things she's heard of, something is different about them. Specifically, they shouldn't be materializing and then dematerializing.
>>183518 >Mala is massive, about on par in terms of mass with Silver and bigger than Posey. He is simultaneously very fluffy with thick fur, fat, and muscular. I am choosing to believe that Mala is actually a young Flind Gnoll. It would explain why he's fatter and more charismatic than most >Specifically, they shouldn't be materializing and then dematerializing Posey suspects that they might might be summons conjured remotely by a caster. Rolling to confirm this: [1d20+11 = (5+11) = 16] >blatantly copy a real life location in hopes of shortcutting a map and then fail at that All GMs do this. Literally all of them.

As the figure gallops through the mist, it becomes more visible. It's covered in a thick, matted fur that's tinted yellow, and dirty, with small amounts of debris caught in it. Kira can see that it is a sheep, a domestic variety of one, and an ewe.
It gives Kira and also Brie a wide berth, going around Kira to the right, but it doesn't slow down, and it doesn't seem bothered by the party. It moves around with a "Baa"
>>183536 Fuck, it didn't paste properly. This is the actual message: "Greetings, daughter of the lamb. Have you come to deliver a message from the bloated one? I wish my little lamb Gloomy were here to meet you."
The ewe moves around the ponies, and turns around briefly to look back at the party, then starts to proceed the way it was going at a slower speed. Mala leaves the cuddle pile to follow the sheep, clearly curious about it.
>>183538 That would mean it's an unholy message from the gnoll-lord. >>183539 Rolling Charisma (animal handling) to pet the sheep Applying +2 circumstances bonus, for having successfully identified it. >>183542 Posey does not stop Mala from eating the sheep if he intends to do so anyway. She just informs him that eating the sheep will cause him to die a horrible death. Or maybe it will just turn him into a monster. Who knows?
Mala looks up towards Posey, ears upwards, then has a look of fear in his eyes. He turns and quickly scurries away, whimpering and with his tail between his legs. He hides behind Silver
The Sheep however, is also afraid of Posey, and starts to run away
She seems to have miscalculated. She misses outright.
Mala is pet and somewhat reassured.
When you Intimidate a target, that target's attitude shifts to "unfriendly" towards you after you leave its presence, as the skill check should work. It seems so much less useful than diplomacy
>>183554 It jumps and dodges out of the way of Posey with a "Baa"
>>183556 >It seems so much less useful than diplomacy Demoralizing is good in combat. They also added the duel of wills mechanic in the ToB, which lets you get a bonus on attacks when you use it in initiative. But as a social skill it is the worst. I still max it out, because Posey is supposed to be a scary conqueress.
It was just a shitpost roll anyway.
Posey pursue's the sheep Grapple [1d20+5 = (5+5) = 10]
>>183556 Silver gives Mala some pets, seeing if that will reassure him moreso. Kira thinks to herself, that's odd... as she whiffs on the lunge and hits the ground with an "Oof!" May she try again to grab the sheep?
>>183557 >it was just a shitpost roll anyways Then what the fuck is a serious roll and how am I supposed to tell It's as much of a shitpost roll as any you've rolled this entire campaign
Posey does not get the sheep
>>183561 Mala is pet, and reassured just a little bit more. Kira on the otherhoof...
Kira has heard of how the old lamia die. They become big, old. Slow. Pondersome. They aren't as dexterous as the once were, and when they lunge for prey, they miss. They slowly starve to death, fading away from the world.
Kira can again, but there's probably going to be a bat around it
>>183566 >Then what the fuck is a serious roll and how am I supposed to tell Sorry. I'm just having fun with this sheep sequence until. Cavalier arrives.
Assuming Kira joins the grapple, Posey begins to shear the sheep.
>Kira has heard of how the old lamia die. They become big, old. Slow. Pondersome. They aren't as dexterous as the once were, and when they lunge for prey, they miss. They slowly starve to death, fading away from the world. This is probably why most ancient Naga learn sorcery.
>>183574 Well look who's suddenly adverse to getting tainted by evil xp >>183575 "While it would neither be my proudest moment, I will rape you if you don't simmer down for a moment, (ewe)."
>>183566 Nah, that can't be it. Kira's not nearly old enough, or big enough. It must just be a fluke. Still, with Brie having a hold of the sheep, Kira comes over to help with keeping it still. She pets the poor mistreated sheep. "Shhhh, it's okay little sheepy, we're just giving you a nice trim so you can feel better!"
Kira: "Yes, yes, I know. But if your wool gets too long then you won't be able to move as well, or even see because it will all be in your eyes. You'll feel so much better after, I promise."
>>183587 Oh Helll no. Brie involuntarily lets go of the sheep, his body language betraying a degree of horror, shock, and astonishment. He ends his action pulling his pistol
>>183589 Kira wraps around the sheepy, and holds her hooves out to Brie. She looks at him with a pleading look. "Nonononono, don't hurt her! She's just a little sheepy!"
>>183594 "You all heard it speak right? It SAID 'Baa', but theree were words. It was batspeak. And,... it was twisted and perverse." Rolling to calm down (wisdom) [1d20-1 = (2-1) = 1]
>>183593 >>183599 Kira moves to put herself between the pistol and the sheep. "Sheepies don't know how to speak. Please, put the pistol down, don't hurt the poor sheepy. I think the fog is messing with us."
>>183601 "Appreciating your manananimous approach, I rolled a modified 1 on my wisdom check, and think that THAT sheep prolly needs to die." Brie repositions with a clear shot, waiting on other opinions.
>>183604 Posey is still shearing the sheep, completely calm. >>183603 Posey shears the sheep, removing its fleece. "There we go." >>183586 >It's not like there's something time sensitive going on. I guess we could go on ahead now then.

>>183614 Dark Star considers how much of his spaghetti he should spill "Simply put they're not like us and in my opinion they have no business being here, they all hold contempt and jealousy for us, because we are superior, you can just take a look at history and that proves it, zebras are the worst most detestable of all the non pony races.
They come with their filthy striped hooves held out asking for hoofouts that the previous regime of the princesses were more than happy to give. they are stupid, smelly, violent and expect to be treated equally to ponies, when doing this wouldn't elevate them to our level, but drag us down to theirs, in conclusion zebrica should be burned and salted"
>>183620 No maybe "With your pardon, no. Theres something fundamentally not right about that (ewe) Of course Im gonna meme. Killing it outright wouldseem to alleviate any affliction?" It makes sense to him but he doesnt know.
>>183616 The zeeb is indeed pat. While his expression doesn't change, his tail does swish a bit and his ears do flick a little. >>183613 Dust lets out a deep sigh, he plods up to Posey and taps her on the shoulder. His expression can only read as... Umbrage as he gestures towards the arms.
>>183629 "Yes?" she replies, feeling the tap on the wither She notices the gesture "Oh, are you wondering where I got these? They were gifts from a friend of mine, in as a reward for some religious services. I am glad I brought them along." >>183614 >Brie has the fortune of Posey sitting down, meaning that his biggest distraction is not so visible uwu
Brie begins most jovially and ALMOST charismatically, but gradually deepening in intensity, speed, and harmonic pitch. "I appreciate the wont to be generous to the small sheep. It certainly seems otherwise innocuous, only needing a prestidigitation spell and a meal to make right as rain, but I'll also suggest - crazy that this may sound - this particular sheep spoke to me in a language Ive only ever heard a couple times that 'Im not supposed to admit to being able to recognize."
>>183619 It's not like he's trying to fuck them. Reveal your Power Level. Dark Star needs training trying to convince normies of his grand plan, anyways. These are displacies; they should be easier to convince than the average mare.
Sorrel: "That seems a little strong to say that they hold contempt for us. Like... are we really superior? I know we ponies have a long history but... surely they have some too, right?"
Tricky: "Although if somepony is going to be receiving hoof outs, shouldn't it be other ponies? We can't even get jobs here."
Roll Diplomacy or Charisma to try to persuade them further.
>in conclusion zebrica should be burned and salted Absolutely fucking based.
>>183623 Now you've infected Kira with the bad luck! And she was the luckiest member of the party!

The thing about a fluid trap supression system is that it ISNT quiet, its just not unbearably loud. Instead of a gunshot, a loud clapping of the hooves
Why does Posey have these bullshit "hey I get two extra free attacks with free hands at full attack bonus while I can use my hands hooves to cast spells just because hehe"?
Why is Brie within Posey's AoE radius when he can literally fly and there are no physical impediments to him moving away?
I mean I guess if you're having fun, then sure, it's fine. But it's mind boggling to me.
Also to reiterate, Brie would be operating on a ready action to operate a firearm. There is no way Rpsey can position themselves to intercept without intercepting now (which will be bad, I warned you about this)
>>183664 "They're even worse than I made them out to be, they're loathsome, detestable, hate able, Nature's mistake. Look at zebrica, they didn't even have the wheel there, before We found them on the Worst continent to ever exist."

Mainly, that as Silver is the only one to speak Severanyan he is their sole interpreter. Stealth is useless now because of the gunshots and an open, honest approach would be best. Silver should talk with the Commissar but the party should keep an avenue open for retreat since communists cannot be trusted. Of course, he should stick with the pirates alibi and under no circumstances admit working for New Baltimare. The griffon sealers should be kept hidden and away from the village.
>>183717 I think Dark Star should tone down the rhetoric if he wants to get anywhere with the average pony
>>183726 I'll be clear. So long as you are about to shoot this sheep, I will use every method at my disposal to prevent it. My characters actions are just as valid as yours. A ranged attacks provoke AoO, and both of Posey's minions can fly. >>183723 Go buy one then.

Hooves step on the ground. Air quivers and waves behind the party. Muttering sounds can be heard
While everyone in the group was watching the sheep, and a fight over the sheep, something has walked through the fog
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight ponies have walked up in front of the group in a line. One near the center wears white and has a white hat. He holds a revolver. Three behind him wear green tinted uniforms, and hold long rifles. And another four carry wrenches or no weapons at all, all in blue uniforms. Their eyes are shot. They shake. They mutter to themselves. But they hold themselves up, in a ready position.
Behind the group, black circles appear in the air, and from them comes the smell of fire.
Large, canine-like creatures with humped backs, pointed ears and bat-like faces, and fire that periodically rises from their backs like burning coals, besides glowing orange eyes.
>>183748 Dust is looking obviously fustrated at this point "Perhaps this shall wait until another day When we are out of the fray But pray heed you little mare Do not awaken a sleeping bear" He picks up his flail and whips around in time to see ponies emerging from the fog. >>183749 Dust's withers slump. Dear Zanit he's really starting to regret joining the crack-team. Initiative [1d20 = 20]
>>183760 >tfw no initative bonus and still going first Feels good man. Dust readies himself to cast.... A spell, but before I pick said spell. Knowledge religion, Dust wants to know if these ponies are possessed or if they just look really bad. Also I guess those hounds are a concern. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm getting my undead.... [1d20+9 = (17+9) = 26]
>sheep I interpreted hearing voices as a short-lived gag because Posey believed the sheep to be an avatar of that goat-demon-thing. It seemed purely comedic and Posey rolled with that but Brie, in-character, treated it seriously. It should have been let go before it turned into PvP, non-lethal or not. The safest place for the sheep would be anywhere on the island the party isn't at, because the party is headed towards hungry communists and is currently fighting demon-things. Also, the party has a voracious carnivore and a paranoid schizophrenic bat.
>>183764 Awwwwww.... I don't have antioutsider spells. Regardless, Dust is even more mad at this. However, instead of attacking himself he makes his way over to Kira. He looks her in the eyes as he reaches a hoof to touch her weapon. She can see a blue glow travel from the earth, through Dust's three planted hooves, into his fourth hoof and into her bow. It feels noticeably colder. "I hope for now this will suffice To imbue your bow with the essence of ice" All arrows will do an extra +1d6. He then readies himself in front of Kira to defend her until his next turn
>>183771 Dust is hit with a wrench in the flank as he's trying to help Kira. Although his armor prevents it from being too bad, it's still gonna bruise in a few minutes and hurt like a bitch.
>>183771 The hellhound bites down on Silver, only to find a mouth full of flak jacket and no pony flesh to speak of.
Kira noodles her way out of the way of the hoof attack, looking at the sailor with pleading eyes. "Please, don't do this! Fight the Traveler, fight him!"
>>183771 >>183777 The pony with a rifle misses. Cavaliere draws his revolver in the blink of an eye and blasts off two rounds at his assailant. [1d20+7 = (20+7) = 27] [2d6 = 7] [1d20+7 = (4+7) = 11] [2d6 = 9]
>>183786 >>183780 Kira gasps in shock and horror at seeing the pony slump down, dead. She stares at the fallen creature, eyes wide and pupils shrunken.
>>183786 Poor pupper... >>183787 Posey commands her dreads to fly towards the rifle ponies and disarm them Frightful Presence DC 12 Longsword [1d20+7 = (2+7) = 9] Halberd [1d20+4 = (5+4) = 9]
She shouts out to the hellhounds, in infernal [r]"निष्ठावान् श्वापदाः अग्निम् अयच्छन्ति, एते टट्टूः उन्मत्ताः अभवन्, अयोग्याः स्वामिनः च सन्ति। तेषां कृते स्वस्य च कृते पलायस्व"
In case that didn't translate well, she told the hellhounds to surrender, because their masters have gone mad and there is no reward for their loyalty.
Rosey Ring herself takes a move action to get within 10 ft of the captain and riflemen.
She then Casts Aching Dread, and Aberrant spell that causes overwhelming fear. She does this in hope of overpowering the influence of the Traveller with her own, or at least get them to drop their weapon.
1st level: Aching Dread Necromancy [Fear, Mind-Affecting] Level: Cerebrant 1 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 10 ft. Targets: All enemies in a 10-ft. radius burst centered on you. Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Your mere presence alters the psychological landscape of the surrounding aether, injecting it with unseen phantasms and suggestions of danger born of cyclopean vistas. All creatures within the area are stricken with a feeling of horrible dread that causes them to become shaken for the duration. Cerebrotic Escalation: Instead of merely attempting to shake your foes, on a failed save they are frightened (for 1 round/level). However, if you attempt this escalation, you must succeed on a DC 13 Will save. On a failed save, the spell fails and is lost, and instead you are frightened for 1 minute.
She escalates it Will [1d20+9 = (7+9) = 16]
Save DC 21 for the enemy.
This also triggers her frightful presence. Save DC 21.
>>183790 Assuming Posey's turn is over, Kira slithers back 5 feet out of the threatening range of the pony in front of her. She draws three arrows, firing two in the first draw and one by itself at the hellhound in front of Silver.
>>183801 I didn't know hellhounds could speak "नरककुक्कुराः तारास्पाउन् सेवन्ते? अहं भवतः निष्ठायाः प्रशंसा करोमि, परन्तु यदि भवतः मार्गे बाधा भवति तर्हि भवतः सम्यक् म्रियते!" She levitates a bone over "अस्थि?"

>>183798 Two hit, but bounce off of its hide. But the third one finds purchase.
>>183808 Power Attack: With the hellhound still up, Silver raises his sword above his head for another might blow, the blade crashing into the ground where the hellhound is, whether the hellhound gets hit or not.
>>183808 >To some small degree, yes What is a small degree? Do they gain the frightened condition from the spell That escalates to panicked if they also lost the save vs her presence, not the penalty on saves from the frightened condition.
If they're frightened, they have to flee and cannot attack for the duration. If they're panicked, they drop whatever they are holding.
Dreadful Wrath should come into affect before the spell.
I don't mean to nitpick, but I need to know if my tactics are effective if I'm going to continue to spend precious spell slots next encounter.
Is it my turn then? Dust is mad about getting hit in the flank, like, pretty mad. He decides to to take a page out of Silver's book. With an incredible, almost excessive and reckless windup, Dust raises his flail and attempts to crack it over the pony that hit him. Using full power attack (-4 to hit, +8 dmg) [1d20+5 = (15+5) = 20] [1d10+14 = (5+14) = 19]
>>183816 Whack Dust immediately knocks the pony on the head, and knocks him out
>>183811 These are not standard monsters, they are all under mind control. And what is mind controlling them is of the same nature as the type of scare that Posey is using. So are they supposed to be affected because they are getting an even more harsh dose of the same as what the puppeteer is giving them? Are they actually mostly under their own volition, and thus pretty normally vulnerable? Is Posey actually just showing the puppeteer these images, and thus they will be shrugged off?
This is on top of questions about how the fear affect actually works, like how many hit die a creature must have in order to be affected by it.
It's a hell of a lot of dice and numbers and things to think about
>>183813 Attack of Opportunity, because Brie has to blatantly pass the pony that is standing right in front of him to do this [1d20+3 = (3+3) = 6] [1d3+1 = (1+1) = 2]
>>183819 >they are all under mind control Mind control shouldn't make you immune to fear. >It's a hell of a lot of dice and numbers and things to think about Take your time.
>>183788 Cavaliere glances over to the lamia, regret briefly flashing over his stoic face.
>>183830 Isn't he next to Silver and therefore one of the hellhounds? His first shot would have provoked an attack of opportunity. Anyway, although he is out of reach of the fire, he leaps back (takes a five-foot step) away from the left hellhound (hopefully not into proximity of one of the pony puppets!) and pulls the trigger twice on the large creature, aiming for the head. [1d20+7 = (12+7) = 19] [2d6 = 2] [1d20+7 = (18+7) = 25] [2d6 = 7]
>>183847 >The rifles used by the marines are affixed with bayonets, and thus do not provoke attacks of opportunity Idk if that's how ranged attacks work in 3.5e, but whatever. It's my turn anyway, so I'll just do it now.
Posey charges towards the officer and attempts to disarm him with a slam attack She risks an AoO from the wrench guy. [1d20+7 = (11+7) = 18]

Halberd I am going to auto succeed because Brie is hugging that one, and the rifle being used is so insanely large that there's no way he could continue to hold it while being hugged

Okay so Brie's normal attack is at +10, but hes stabbing someone hes grappling so -4, also hes doing it defensively (-4 atk, +3 ac, combined 21) But the opponent also gets -2 ac cuz grappled Oh, its a stabby stab, so -2 on both (not technically sneak attacks) [1d20 = 6] [1d20 = 19]

"Oh fuck off" Opposed opposed [1d20+12 = (19+12) = 31] Flanking gives +2 atk, but that makes 16, and he needs 18 to hit Brie when hes not figjting defensively, and 21 ehen he is, which he is

>>183887 Punch, and punch. However, even with the knife wound from Brie, it's not quite enough to put the pony out.

If successful, he will force the hound tonstab its self (in the face, preferrably) which IS at no dex, so a sneak attack [4d6+3 = (21+3) = 24]
>>183889 >28 damage That pony is not alive. Cavaliere frowns at the gory display of violence, and turns to Brie. "Let's take this one alive," he says, gesturing at the pony being currently wrestled.
>>183903 "We have bigger fish to fry, Brie. Whatever is controlling them has no cares about throwing away their lives. We are going to keep it from killing any more ponies, so knock him out and let's go."
>>183904 Kira constricts her pony non-lethally, squeezing around the pony's midsection and not allowing them to take in a breath. She repeats to him "go to sleep" over and over again as she does so. She doesn't want to hurt him, just cause him to pass out.
Snek Squeeze: [1d6+3 = (6+3) = 9]
Silver, meanwhile, goes over to the officer with his greatsword and attempts to bash him over the head with the pommel to knock him out.
>>183916 Brie should be straddling a pony that he stabbed in the neck. Or face. Maybe eyeballs
>>183917 Silver doesn't quite succeed in stopping the bleeding.
Kira slowly squeezes the pony
>>183919 Yes. There is his revolver, reading glasses, and a saddle bag with a bit of currency, a smoking pipe, a passport, and several large notebooks.
Brie's target is obliterated. The one hit in the head by Dust isn't dead yet. The one shot in the head by Cavaliere isn't doing great but might not be dead.

>>183942 Silver gets Kira to help him with tying up the three ponies, now joining Sea Stone. Kira looks forlornly at the dead bodies littering the ground, and Silver gives her a pat on the shoulder.

Rules say I can use a light weapon while grappled but not a medium weapon. Cavaliere's revolver is a medium weapon so he drops it as a free action. He draws a hidden derringer which instigates an opposed grapple check. [1d20 = 2]
Assuming he can without incurring an AoO, Brie would stabby stab the (for one more round) blinded thingy on Garv (no dex bonus to it AND +2 atk (combined +11, with all the ups and downs) [1d20+11 = (1+11) = 12] [1d20+11 = (14+11) = 25] A second hit noted, hes down 6 hp so far
One of the tentacles has a joint in a painful position, and another threatens to cut off circulation. He manages to dodge the beak, but has taken 8 damage this round.
Growling with anger, Cavaliere swipes at the creature with fully extended claws. This is an attack with an opposed grapple check, and is for lethal damage. [1d20 = 8] [1d6 = 5]
>>184000 This one has AC 14 or less but the other one wasn't stopped by this hit? >>183977 This is not a complaint but I calculated that these monsters must have at least 15 AC.

>>184019 "Surprisingly, bastards have some sort of camoflage. One momebt it was a rock, and the next moment it sprouted tentacles and tried to make this NC-17"
>>184019 >>184020 Brie and Garv were both wounded in the earlier fight at least I think Garv was and certainly in this one. They could use some medical attention. The sailor certainly could. He has a shotgun would in the lower chest
>>184021 It resembled a three tentacled octopus, with at least four eyes above the beak
>>184021 The black griffon looks disheveled and his movement betrays some soreness in his limbs. He dusts himself off and replaces five spent cartridges in his six-shooter as he observes the surroundings. "If it's this bad now then we can't wait for dusk. Let's rendezvous with the others, if you're up to move. Do you feel strong enough to carry the stallion?"
>>184022 He was completely untouched in the previous fight. He is at 15/29 hitpoints now.
Brie takes a seat, pulling out his tea set and sterno can, first lighting it with a match and setting it to boil, and then lighting a cigarette.
"Earning our keep today. Oh curses, whatever became of that sheep? I do hope.Mala was able to scavenge it. Other than the rations the military provided, all I have is a small box of tea cakes, which really.isn't going to.offer any lasting sustainance. And these!" He cruples and throws away the Lunchly, "Absolute wank." He takes a stiff drag from the cigarette. >>184029 "Don't worry about me, this poor sod is bleeding worse than I am"
>>184018 Heal: No offense to Brie and Cavaliere, but Silver goes to fix up the unconscious pony first as he can't exactly heal himself in his current state.
[1d20+5 = (6+5) = 11]
>>184030 Kira goes to pick up the thrown away trash. "Awww, don't litter. It's not nature's fault that...whatever this is is apparently digusting."
>>184031 >no offense "None taken, I'd have been surprised if it had worked when I tried. >>184031 >trash/litter "I don't know what you mean,... unless you mean the dissolved corpses which, well I suppose I really should get to photographing instead of murdering,...."
>>184033 "Photographs of these creatures would be more valuable than anything we could find except for the airponies themselves. You've earned a reprieve from hoof-to-hoof combat anyway."
>>184037 Cavaliere stares for a moment. Then he breaks out into quiet laughter and pats the batpony on the withers. He turns back to Silver. "It's a nasty entry wound. He'll need sutures to keep the wound closed. Maybe we can try something temporary." He tries to heal the pony. [1d20+3 = (16+3) = 19]
Zeeb his here, and wondering how you people stay up so long holy shit. Dust plods between party members, trying to get an idea of how injuried everyone is here. Can I get an HP role call? I've got 4 healing kits with no clue as to what they do, and a very limited number of spells at this point. Also a heal roll if anyone needs it, I genuinely can't tell. [1d20+13 = (18+13) = 31]
"Fucking things got the drop on us. They have some sort of active camouflage or chameleon ability. All of a sudden, a rock behind Cavaliere sprouted tentacles and attacked him, and one for me too cuz its Halloween," he says inspecting his wounds, but more specifically, brand new cuts and gashes in his fine suit. "Had the damndest time trying to get this one patched up on the fly. The hoof cuffs may be a bit much, bit nothing makes sense and I'm growing weary of taking risks. Best to engage these things from a distance or they'll tear off a piece of your hide," he sighs, wiping grime off of one of his blades before resheathing it and then patting his revolver.
"The worst part was, I'm not even sure what my eyes saw at the time! It was almost as though the creature had changed it's shape to BECOME a rock. This wasn't a question of stealth or disguise! The rock simply decided to stop being a rock anymore, and came at us like it was an Onlyfans video!"
>>184052 >>184053 By this point, both Silver and Kira have come to understand to ignore it when Brie references something they absolutely have no idea about, like 'Halloween' or 'Onlyfans'. What weird sounding things they are.
Kira: "This is hell, this is actual hell. The Traveler needs to be stopped!"
Silver: "We should avoid splitting up from now on if it can be helped. Come on, let us bring this pony back to join others, and have our zebra healer take look at you, you both look pretty badly injured."
>>184054 Silver: "In your experience, has anything been particularly resistant to blindness?"
>>184055 "Well, not especially, outside fillytales of subterranean creatures. I only reference it to say that in spite of their otherworldly nature, there appears to be some degree of cohesive biology,... at least until they dissolve, which I'm still struggling to grasp,...."
>>184055 Brie notices that mention again - the Traveler - as something mentioned previously that he had hoped to inquire about, but right now he is pulling of how VERY sweaty mask and is pouring himself a calming cup of Pu'er tea. "I have extra cups if anypony else would like some," he says before closing his eyes and drinking in the aroma rising from the cup.
>>184060 "Splendid!" he hands pver a small ceramic cup, little more than a shot glass really, and then pours from the kettle. "Cheers! That was some excellent work with that hoof-cannon (claw-cannon?) of yours. I'd hate to hear it go off in an enclosed space though!" He chuckles, taking another sip before setting the cup back down. Right on the ground. "As for this poor sod,...." he walks over and begins moving the pony on the ground. >>184055 "Kira dear, would you mind carrying this one?"
>>184062 Brie thinks for a moment. "I suppose that may have been a tad excessive. Perhaps I did get a bit caught up in the moment. I don't know how the experience is for you, but once I'm in a grapple I start to lose of sense of perspective; its now a progressive game where each movement brings me one step closer to the opponent's defeat. Perhaps I overreacted a tad," he does acknowledge it, but it's clear he isn't at all bothered or remorseful about it.
>>184062 "I'll make you a deal. I promise to try to curtail some of my more,... enthusiastic proclivities, but I'm going to need a bit more of an explanation. When you all say "mind control", what is it you mean? Are we talking like, drug-addled tweakers?"
>>184063 Kira: "So, it's like...hunting instincts for you?"
>>184065 Silver: "No, not quite like they are on drugs. This Traveler seems to be dominating their minds, controlling them like puppets, forcing them to do its bidding. These ponies seem to lack any agency of their own. This one might even have been commanded to retreat just to lure some of us into trap."
>>184066 >hunting "Precisely. It's like my blade is hunting their flesh, almost with a mind of it's own; It cries out where it can best find its way home...." >actual mind control [1d20-1 = (16-1) = 15] Wisdom check
>>184061 >>184065 Cavaliere sits crossed-legged and cups the tea in his talons. He sips it, appreciating its dark, bitter flavor. "Ms. Ring suggested it was a type of magical entity that has total control of these ponies and can see and hear through them. I think they have no control over themselves, yet I can't say whether this one fled because of command or out of overpowering fear." "I have no sympathy for these communists, but they are still ponies who are not responsible for their actions. We should avoid killing them unless if we have no choice."
>>184068 Brie does a think [1d20+2 = (12+2) = 14] So it's one,... pony we'll assume. If theyre looking through the eyes of these ponies, leaving aside how that even works, then the element of surprise is long gone. That certainly agrees with Silver's suggestion that this was a trap. Fuck, this means theyve seen my technique. Well, perhaps my reputation precedes me? I sure hope "They" felt it when I stabbed that one pony in the face. I wonder if they feel all the sensations of their thralls. Eh, commies were thralls to begin with. Its less satisfying killing them for the wrong reason.
"If we're to avoid killing, what are our options? I only have the one pair of hoofcuffs, can we risk collecting mind-controllable ponies to maybe turn on us when theres an overwhelming mass? Do we tie their hoofs and make a daisy chain? Can anything be done to stop the mind control we can be confident of?"
>>184070 Brie is going to spend the rest of the dialogue from here on out more or less listening, and taking a 10 on his listen check specifically listening to hear if there may be lurkers or shenanigens watching then right now.
>>184070 "You can have mine," Cavaliere replies, retrieving from his bag a two-pound set of manacles and giving them to Brie. "If we come across any more, we have rope to tie them with, and yes a daisy chain would be helpful. We simply need to incapacitate them until we get to the source controlling them. It is easier said than done, but maybe the communists on the hill will have something on their hooves to help us with it."
>>184069 >>184070 Silver: "There is one plan, simple as it is. When we meet with what communists have survived and escaped, we join forces and make assault upon Kostroma. That Traveler is on board, and if we kill or at least banish it from this realm, then he will not be able to summon more monsters or control minds of these ponies anymore. I imagine it will be far more satisfying for you, anyhow, to stab extradimensional being than it will be its puppets."
>>184050 Forgot to mention, Silver's at 41/55, and Kira's at 32/34
>>184073 "So WORST case, we're dealing with something capable of mind control, that has access to a freighter crew/passenger manifest of possible thalls, as well as an 8-colt team of marines, and any communists along the way," And Im supposed to NOT kill?
"From whats been said so far, if I were some sort of cartoon villain, I would use 'our reticence to kill' against us, forcing us to fight through every bystander along the way. Classic attrition and demoralization. I can sleep with blood on my hooves, I'm not sure about some of you."
>>184075 >>184078 "If we can help it," Cavaliere stresses, with visible displeasure at Brie's bloodlust. "There have been many times when I have been forced to take the life of a pony or griffon, today being no exception. We must find those airponies and we must stop this 'Traveler' even if more Stalliongraders will die in the process. Nevertheless, if you have one of his thralls pinned, refrain from any sort of coup de grace. There is no glory in slaughter."
Silver: "There is not much better plan. If we do not go after this thing, it will pose great risk to ponies we are meant to save. And if that thing manages to escape this island, then I fear for what would happen when it arrives in Equus."
>>184080 [1d20+2 = (11+2) = 13] Another think "Let us rejoin and confer with the others then," something he just thought of has him unnerved, something to do with what Silver just said.
Still listening,... he thinks theres spoop literally waiting to jump out at them, and he keeps one hoof hooked to one of his throwing knives, just in case.
>>184082 Silver: "As long as we stick together, I think we will be able to dissuade Traveler from conjuring any more monsters until we return to others."
I will be away for nine hours so just assume that Cavaliere has dusted himself off, is receptive to any healing that might be provided, and will provide support whenever it's needed.
GM Pone, have you made a map of the Kostroma yet? Now is the time to do it before we go there.
>>184087 In that event, I would suggest Dust's initial healing check (a 30 something) go to Garv. Up to GM how effective a healer's kit is, and they o ly have 10 uses (but we have 4)
Okay so Bat cheese: 16/30 (53.3%) Grif: 15/29 (51.7%) why is your max so low, what class are you? Fluff: 41/55 (74.5%) Snej: 32/34 (94.1%) Posey: Will probably rape me again if I attempt to heal Zoob: 34/42 (80.9%) Priority is the two squishers over there at half, and then floof cause we REALLY need him to be tank. I can pop a cantrip (I know they aren't cantrips on clerics sue me) on Kira because Dust would feel bad for her if this is her first real battle. Dust will make due without healing for now.
The rest of the party finds Dust poking at one of his medical kits, laying open on the ground to take assessment of what he has. Seriously, what do these things do? Heal check bonus? Can I heal HP with 'em?
>>184089 Cheonic insomnia Healker's kits can be said to affect fresh qounds, though how effective depends on the healing check and the determination of GM. I prefer to allow them to 1-time heal half the sustained damage with a decent skill check, but its not my rodeo
>>184089 >why is your max so low, what class are you? Ranger/monk, but I also have only average constitution (10) and had unlucky HD rolls.
40 healing kit uses looks like a lot but don't forget the ponies we injured along the way, and the ones we will injure in the future. Party comes first as always, and then the airponies whose state is unknown.
With limited player availability, one assumes that any play would be in the evening. I'll be around to banter/converse, but I've gotten Brie to figure out enough of what he should know that I do 't NEED anything else to compel his behavior in 'the right' direction. Last night was a fucking blast
Okay, so until I learn what healing kits do, the current plan is >Cure Moderate Wounds x2 on Bat and Grif >Cure Light Wounds on Fluff >Cure Minor Wounds on Snej That exhausts all my level two spells, leaves me with on level 1 slot, and all my level 3 slots.
>>184098 You have all day to find out. Healing kits will probably take more time to use than using a spell or potion, and we're not in combat. Spells will be invaluable in combat and what we've faced has only been a prelude.
>>184102 I'm against it because it's very late in the day, in January, in a northerly altitude. GM Pone hasn't told us what the light level is or how fast it's changing, but we can assume that night is coming quickly. The only thing worse than fighting eldritch abominations is fighting eldritch abominations at night, so we need to move. We were in a hurry in the first place because the cold weather could be lethal for the ponies we have to rescue.
Let's apply first aid for all who need it, meet with the commissar quickly (and leave the captured possessed ponies with that camp), and either clear the Kostroma or find the airponies first. By the time we finish either it will be nightfall (at GM Pone's discretion of course).
>>184109 I recommend taking out the Traveler first. The possessed ponies and summoned monsters will continue to be a threat as long as it remains. There's also the risk that some of the Navy ponies have become or will end up possessed if the Traveler isn't dealt with.
>>184101 >we may want to consider resting to recover spells and abilities As the party Sorceress who benefits from this most, I still firmly disagree. We are on a time-sensitive quest, and the captain told us we need to locate the Marines before they freeze, heck, before all of us freeze (except Posey, lol). Even if nobody freezes, delaying the mission by a day could compromise our extraction. This is only our third party-level encounter today: we are supposed to be able to handle 1-3 more encounters of this strength or more before resting. Then again, nobody else seems to have proper equipment for this level, so idk, maybe we're out of resources... Wealth By Level is really, really, reall important in 3.5e, especially for martials.
Then again, if we could confirm that the Marines are cozy in the light house, we may be able to afford to rest.
Hey, did Kira prepare Animal Messenger? If we send a bird to the lighthouse with a message to fire a flare if the Marines are there, we could know that they are okay.
>>184113 Also, this will give Brie an opportunity to finish the appraisals, but this is what Im thinking/hoping, that the lighthouse pans out. Brie's suit is insulated, but hes not immune to cold environs
Admitting, I dont know whats 'best', Brie wants to approach this Traveller like a chess opponent, so hes a little more wont to.be cautious/methodical, even if now isnt the time
For HP roll call, reminder that the second cone of fire is not to be applied. That is retconned as actually the Hell Hound should have been dead prior to doing that
>>184113 >Then again, nobody else seems to have proper equipment for this level, so idk, maybe we're out of resources... Wealth By Level is really, really, reall important in 3.5e, especially for martials. I don't know what you expect. I brought everything I thought Cavaliere would need. If anything I overprepared him, because he's at the upper end of medium encumbrance and he will need to shed that weight if it becomes a burden.
>>184114 >Brie's suit is insulated, but hes not immune to cold environs All furred, warmblooded creatures are better suited to dealing with the cold than an equivalent human character. On top of that Cavaliere is fully clothed and has a leather jacket on to better insulate him. Nevertheless, have you ever been to Newfoundland in January? Night would not be easily survivable. We don't even know if the Gulf Stream is a thing in this setting and place.
>>184114 Appraisal only takes 1 minute per item. You could finish it in the time Dust is healing. >>184115 The Traveller is guaranteed to be more intelligent than anyone in this party, and considering that he's already aware of us, I don't know what kind of tactics could surprise him, but if you can think of something that would be good.
He seems to be attacking us with summons instead of his actual powers, so he may be unable/unwilling to attack us directly: in that case, guns-blazing brute force might be the best tactic. Conversely, he may be attacking us with summons to expend our resources and soften us up to make us easier to kill later. Resting could be tactical, but if he can summon this many entities, what is to stop him from Summoning more to interrupt our rest 4 hours in and prevent us from recovering our rest resources?
>>184117 Technically, the manacles puts Brie into the low-medium encumbrance, limiting some of his skill checks. He will want to be not carrying the rope and manacles soon, especially if we're to incorporate the camera into the context
>>184122 Good. >>184121 Posey's weakness is pride/hubris. I already tried taunting him in a contest of hubris. He might be too smart for that. >>184124 I mentioned those earlier. I thought other players took them. I think we should use them now, and save spell slots.
>>184125 Hubris in the form that as a powerful magic user, Posey and Dust are probably the only two he considers a real threat to be concerned about, specifically Posey for her apparent familiarity, and Dust for his anti ebil dispositon.
>>184118 IC yes but OOC said tactics are limited by the GM Pone's abilities. Hopefully his two million hours into HOI4 make this interesting
"These have had the hallmarks of probing attacks. He's sent just enough forces to test us and force us to show our capabilities. Now that he knows our strengths…and some of our weaknesses…" he stretches his left foreleg painfully "He will not hold back next time."
>>184125 I think drinking potions takes less time in combat than using a healing kit. Let's save them for when we need some sort of healing and are out of spells.
>>184110 Wait, it's only an hour? I hate DnD, why can't things be consistent. But I can life with that if we can spare an hour. I can pop the rest of my spells to heal, we spend an hour to rest, and then we pop off. Cause I'm down heavily on slots to begin with. >>184124 How do I use my kits, someone else took the potions. I didn't take them cause in a party split it'd be better for the other group to have them
>>184132 Sorry Dust but I don't think we have even an hour to spare. It has to be after four o'clock at this point, if not later (didn't the party set off at noon, on a propeller airplane, and with a transfer?) and the sun will have fully set in an hour. You are still viable without those slots, and do you really want to fighting those things at night?
>>184132 You can only prepare once per day, but it takes you one hour to prepare. As a Divine spellcaster, you don't actually need rest to recover spells, but you pray at a specific time each day, and cannot do so again until the same time the next day.
Also, when you prepare spells, consider leaving some slots open, to prepare them later in 10 minutes. Clerics who leave slots open can save all of life's problems in 10 minutes flat.
Okay, I have to be honest. I am extremely lost. I don't even know what's up with the lighthouse. I just know we're looking for lost ponies and there appears to be a griffon cult. Also do I heal on heal checks with a med kit? Help. >>184136 Wouldn't really help at this point. I'm pretty much done on slots after healing. I can pop some level 3s and 0s and that's it. >>184135 I can cast light, but I'm basically a worse Silver if I don't have slots.
>>184138 The griffons and that cursed crown seems like it's unrelated to what's going on with the Traveler. Originally we were going to check the lighthouse to see if the Navy ponies we're looking for a holed up there, but we heard the spooky broadcast from the Stalliongraders and it sounded like they were under attack, so we changed direction to see what's what with them. As it turns out they brought some kind of interdimensional entity with them on that boat and it's taken over the minds of most everyone on that ship, save for a few survivors who made it off. Said entity is also responsible for summoning the demons we're fighting.
>>184138 Our MISSION is 10 marines tescued and some equipment destruction. Our increasingly obvious moral imperitive is to kill Zuul before it gets free. We are on our way to a larger village, and theres something to do with a lighthouse. Not sure if thats "our best vantage to see the Kostromo" or what. Take heart that other characters know and will.guide us along cuz Im missing details too. ^_^
>>184138 >>184144 Also, we don't know where the navy ponies are at. It looks like the crash site may have been towards the center of the island, but the ponies could be at the lighthouse, at the old village (unlikely since the surviving communists are there) or at the new village on the east coast. They might be still be at the crash site but they would be sitting ducks there.
>>184146 If you've read through Amber's last dream sequence, he seems to be the entity that was revealed at the very end. It would mean that the events in that dream are canonized which makes me very sad. >Do I need to move forward with >>184098 or do we have other means? Hold your horses (heh) because I will be leaving soon and won't be back for the next leg of the adventure. The consensus seems to be that you should save your spell slots, and it's my personal opinion that we need to quickly talk with the surviving communists before starting the next leg of the adventure before night comes.
>>184146 >>>184144 >W-who's the traveler? Some Cthulhu-like Aberrant entity from another realm that is controlling the communists. It claims to be a friend, but its brutal mind control is decidedly hostile.
>>184154 Zero. Rosey's mentor is a Dread Necromancer from the league. Also, she spoke to the traveller, and it didn't seem to recognize her. Also, it apparently isn't sure what Death is yet, so it cannot be a Necromancer.
>>184156 No idea. Last night was intense, so Im okay with not getting into combat, but that doesnt exclude exploration and investigation. Garv said he wont be available for another 5 hours, and others have indicated limited availability, but I'm going to plan to be ready to play regardless of any assurances/expectations (meaning not shitfaced)
>>184162 >Probably? Good. >It looks like there's some dispute over what to do in the down time, especially regarding HP and healing We should all be at serviceable HP is everyone gets a d4 Treat Wounds, and the most wounded PCs each take one of the healing potions.
>>184162 I should be able to play for a few hours after 7-8ish tonight. >>184164 Should I start up the healing kit wagon then to at least start us off?
>>184167 >Should I start up the healing kit wagon then to at least start us off? You could take 10 on it to avoid unnecessary dice rolls and wasted kits. We're out of combat, and there's no reward for rolling high.
Well, I guess there's no reason not to. It's not like I don't have 40 damn uses of healing kits. Welcome to Dust's Clinic. Unfortunately he doesn't have any lolipops to give out after the checkup. Brie is excluded, only because he already healed himself with a use. Only works once a day. So Dust makes his way along the injured party, looking over their wounds and treating what he can. Dust will take 10 on all the heal checks. Silver [1d4 = 2] Cavaliere [1d4 = 4] Kira [1d4 = 1] Uh... I guess that's really it. Dust will also tend to himself. I'm gonna roll for it too cause I'm quirky [1d20+13 = (6+13) = 19] [1d4 = 4] 3 full healing kits, 1 with 5/10 uses
>>184162 That high amount of pets on her back cause a strange sensation to occur in Vir's body. She moves into the hoof and petting. Then... She rolls over on her back and the small hoof pets her belly. It's tickilish.
She kicks her backleg and brings up a front hoof in an attempt to contain her giggles.
>>184173 You don't need to prepare Cure Minor Wounds. You can turn any orison into cure minor wounds. These spells will be useful in combat. You should keep them.
Stone Shape is the only one I don't think will be helpful in combat, but that could be useful in unforseen ways, so you should keep the slot.
>>183717 "We were both in culinary school. That's what we did. Well, what we tried to do, or wanted to do. Was to be chefs, or food preparation professionals. I would hope we could, because that's we're good at."
Sorrell: "I do love waffles, even if my area of specialty involves more, well, vegetables. But waffles are very easy to make, and to add flourishes to."
>>184196 Flowercup got blown the fuck out of the water by Vir's cuteness roll. She has no choice but to obey Vir.
>>184224 The mare needs bellyrubs. >>184226 Posey does not respond. She is dying from lack of belly rubs. >>184227 >I wonder if she swallowed some of the treasure. You could probably feel it if you rubbed her belly.
>>184230 I think it may make sense for Garv to get a Cure Moderate wounds potion, and Brie to receive a cure light wounds spell.
>>184230 "Good treasure always goes to the strongest. Even a whale couldn't pass that crown. You can't hide it either. But coins? Rings? Well, Griffin rings. That, you can try to hide."
>>184232 "Let her have it. The way that I see it her discomfort is her payment. It's unfortunate that we'll be down a member to stomach troubles."
Upon the sound of the gunshot Cavaliere whips around, his revolver in his talon and pointed at the source by the time he's finished turning. Upon seeing Brie he sighs and re-holsters his weapon. >>184233 "You could have just told us."
>>184236 "Excuse you, but I offered the sheep first as something you might snack on. And then it turned into something that if you DID eat, you might die. And then it started speaking in ancestral tongues, including mine. And THEN abunch of weird pokemon bamf out of nowhere, and we get a pound or two of flesh taken. And tou're on at ME for being paranoid? Enjoy the sword."
Posey is on the ground, her armor has slid off of her, her soft, white, slightly-plump, smoothe, fluffy kissable ponytum is exposed for all the world to see. >>184236 Is he gentle?
>>184245 Oh celestia I wanna blow raspberries on that tum. Dust, however simply places one ear against her tum, and the other ear flicks in time, almost like he's counting. "Colic? I don't think so And it doesn't sound about to blow So gas and bloating I would rule no"
So we have 4 potions? Here's what I vote for our final spread. Brie and Caviar get 1 potion each. That gives them a chance to help themselves if it gets bad. In addition, since both can fly they're in a good position to retreat and take a minute to heal. Dust, Silver, and Kira can stick together so Dust can easily heal either of them if something goes wrong. We can put Posey in the back of an ambulance to take her to the horse-pital for her tum tum woes. Deal? >>184253 Dust is reminded of insolent fillies he has cared for back in his village. And although he's gonna get this mare one of these days, he decides to comply with her attention seeking behavior. Rolling to wub da tum [1d20+13 = (15+13) = 28]
>>184245 >Is he gentle No. Mala is either trying to figure out if her intestines have twisted, if there is bloating, or if he can feel whatever treasure she's hiding. He presses firmly.
On the plus side, he actually does have soft paws, and is probably the only one in the party with soft paws.
Belly Rub: [1d20+1 = (18+1) = 19]
>>184247 "Didn't you say you have healing magic?" Mala asks
>>184256 Tricky Truffle "Oh, the griffins didn't do that." She looks away "But uh, you can help us?" She moves closer
>>184259 "Magic I can cast But this problem will not solve These problems will last Until her attention seeking we absolve" >>184260 Nigga you have half HP, a stiff breeze will send you to death saves
>>184257 He asks Dust, "Do you want to heal the wounded captives out here or take them to their commissar's village first? Daylight is fleeting and they might have a doctor."
Fun Fact: Posey did have treasure hidden in her guts earlier today (the crystal and the magic ammo that she smugggled past the guards in the swamp), but she took them out for Brie to appraise >>184259 Posey murmurs in response, the belly rub making clear progress. Her eyelids flutter, and she groans, she is nearly saved, but not quite: >>184257 Her tummy is so soft, so supple, so fluffy. It jiggles like its ticklish, and she begins to squirm slightly, the anima returning to her magical sinews. She gives a moan that sounds suspiciously pleasured, tossing her head "~Oh.. oh.. Oh!" Her eyes shoot open "Dusty?! Mala?! You saved my life! Come here!" She pulls them both in for a hug.
>>184263 And I don't have anything to do 1d8. It's either 1 hp or 2d8, or keep the healing potion and leave the zigger with 2. >>184262 "Over them I can look I shall try to let them to me not hook But for some simple care? Some time I can spare." How many are we looking at? >>184265 "GAK-" Dust is pulled into a hug, unexpectedly
>>184266 >Unexpected hug Cute pony jumpscare >And I don't have anything to do 1d8 If you concert a lvl 1 spell into a cure spell, it should do 1d8+5 >>184268 Mala is hugged "Who's a good boy?" Posey begins to rub Mala's belly
>>184271 Mala's tongue hangs out. He'll roll onto his back if he can. He is rather fat and thickly furred. He kicks a hind leg out. His belly makes a gurgle, presumably from the bones Posey has been feeding him throughout the day.
>>184271 I could, but Nimbus of Light is a spell I'd actually like to use, and it's my only level 1 slot. >>184269 >>184270 You don't have to use it now you tard, but sure go for two 1's. Let's see how that works out for you. >>184271 >>184262 Dust wriggles his way out of the hug as Posey is distracted. And looks at the griffon, ready to go attend to the prisoners.
>>184280 >We don't have Fluffernoodle. I don't really want to do combat without him Understood. I wouldn't want to leave him out of it either. I like his characters and am curious to see how they will respond to the next scenario. Maybe we should call it for the night. I have work tomorrow. >>184276 Rolling to rub Dusty M's belly using magic [1d20+6 = (10+6) = 16]
Brie outright killed one One got critted by a single shot by Garv, but technically should have been in the "dying" or "unconscious" stage One was outed by Dust's flail One was Stabbed by Posey's arm thing, then knocked flat the fuck out by Silver with an amount of damage that would have killed him outright if it were "lethal" One was shot by Mala and then knocked out by Garv
Technically two went over by non-lethal damage, and two by lethal damage
>>184282 Also I wanted him to read from the notebook...
>>184281 >Tries to rub his belly >misses slightly and rubs the wrong thing by accident
>>184284 Uh huh. Keep telling yourself that. It won't improve your luck
>>184283 "I had a roll as a cook, briefly, in Mareaway. At a diner." She answers
Tricky "I was a clerk for a little while.. Not very dignified, but, there was work."
>>184285 Agreed. Cavalier and Brie can still get eaten by monsters again if they would like to continue playing without us. >>184286 >Also I wanted him to read from the notebook... Well, if he shows up, he can read from it, and we can pick up on that tomorrow.
>>184286 I don't see that one marine surviving being shot through the brain, at least as anything other than as a vegetable. The only reason I don't want double-crits insta-killing is because getting a years-old character killed randomly would suck. The 3x damage modifier is a good homebrew rule (assuming it would be 4x with a 3x weapon).
>>184290 Tricky looks away "I suppose... we couldn't stay there long, anyways. We're here now..."
>>184289 The Marine Garv shot had 19 HP, which is the same as a level 3 fighter with statistically average hit die. This is kind of high for an NPC enemy, but I think it fits for what I am trying to do. I figured the revolver would crit on a 20 and do 3x damage, which is the same as a Longbow. Please note that Crossbows crit on 19s and 20s, and do 2x damage. Garv's 2d6 damage did 7 damage, which is the exact statistical average of a 2d6 and I think the modal outcome. 3x7 is 21 damage, placing the marine at -2 HP. Death occurs at -10, giving the marine 6 rounds/1 minute to stabilize or die. It won a secret death saving throw the first round after, which would mean it stabilized and did not die, and in any case I think Dust or Silver would have gotten to him before the minute mark.
Is that unrealistic? Is that undesirable, considering that Garv not merely critted, but basically double critted? I don't know. Maybe the marine should be considered dead.
>>184292 I wish I was aware of the rules for Cavaliere's own weapon. His revolver is lifted from the D20 Modern ruleset, which provides a x2 critical. A x3 critical is very nice and of course I want to keep that statistic, but I don't know why it's lifted from the longbow. I don't want the marine to die, but a double-crit is special and rare enough to deserve a bonus (which is why exploding crits are such a popular house rule). I think a x4 critical would have led to the marine stabilizing at -9 HP, just barely clinging onto life.
It's up to you. None of this was communicated to me.
Rosey Ring picks up the rifles from the communists, and gives them to her Dreads. She gives each of them one of her clips of magical rifle ammo. She takes back her melee weapons.
Veritably, Garv Cavaliere, Silver Sword, Defiant Dust, Brie 86, and Kirafikiiirc return to the party, the latter carrying an unconscious white pony with hoof-cuffs about their 'wrists'. Brie has his hoof on his pistol, and a few fresh scuffs and scrapes to his fine armor wtf is Tenebrous, I want his suit.
Im kidding. For those unfamiliar, Brie ActungSechsig (86) is named after a particular episode of Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. The crew runs afoul of mobster mice, and the team's resident pilot Monterey Jack - a notorious cheese lover - is forced to choose between "the best cheese ever" (a wheel of Brie, year '86) or save the lovely Gadget from a horrible cartoon fate. Ordinarily intoxicated by the mere smell of ANY cheese, let alone the best, Monty has to undergo a character breakthrough to save his friend.
>oc rolls over while petted >doesn't know >boom ^^
>>184194 At first, Vir expects to enjoy the belly rub like one would a massage but she doesn't. Instead, due to Flowercup's light touch and small hoof, it feels smiliar to a feather stroking her. Vir kicks the air and start to giggle.
"Heh heh, that tickles. Stahp!" She makes very weak attempt in her tickled state to remove the tiny hooves poking into her belly made of jelly.
poke poke Flowercup smiles as she sits next to Vir and poke's at Vir's belly. She starts to rub in a clockwise, and then counterclockwise fashion.
>>184355 Tricky "Well... I can't say it's been great. We still don't have jobs. Say, do you live here?" She tilts her head. "Or around here." And paws the floor. "I don't know, I can't say I know many ponies here."
>>184351 These rifles are fairly long, kind of heavy, have five round internal magazines, and attached bayonets. Wood furniture that has a groove below the action, a magazine that sticks out slightly, and of course a bolt action.
The magical ammunition is an entirely different type. It's an actual crystal modified to a hexagon shape; it will not fit an internal magazine.
>>184358 >Or...you could look into getting a magic rifle for your ammunition. Posey isn't proficient in guns. She prefers her bow. Besides, +1 bullets wouldn't stack with a +1 weapon.
>>184363 Contested. The firearm is the delivery platform. A fine olatform is entitled to a bonus. The ammunition is the force-potential, which could also be said to be entitled to a bonus. The bonus of the firearm wouldnt apply increased damage, but aiming/accuracy? Seems plain
>>184360 >>184363 Okay, so, a magic rifle is actually something completely different to a magically enhanced rifle. A magic rifle uses crystal ammunition instead of bullets to fire bolts of magic at enemies. They're primarily used by mage corps because of how difficult they are to produce, but their effectiveness in combat is unparalleled.
Consider it in terms of armor-piercing (greentip) rounds from a well tuned sniper, versus plinking rounds from a casual hunting rifle (same calibur, better tool and ammo)
>>184371 Ostensibly, the rifle in question would have the precision bonus, and the ammo would have an enhancement bonus, if having to make the rules up on the fly
>>184373 "Yea i did, the princess seized it before the war." He nods "I was thinking about seeing if i could get you both a job there in the cafeteria."
>>184363 >Enhancement bonuses never stack. >+1 ammo is good for nonmagical guns. Good to know. That's by 3.5e rules, though, and this game is becoming more homebrewed by the session. >>184376 >Ostensibly, the rifle in question would have the precision bonus, and the ammo would have an enhancement bonus, if having to make the rules up on the fly I agree with this one.
Cavaliere takes 10 (+7) to hogtie all the unconscious enemies, just to be safe. He also blindfolds them and plugs their ears. Including the ties for the captive they took on the beach, how much rope has he used up?
>>184435 >this game is becoming more homebrewed by the session Honestly kinda based. I think it's a good idea to use one of the D&D systems as your base, and then homebrew rules as you see fit in order to fit the game you're trying to play.
>>184435 At first, Brie thinks the hog tying may be a bit excessive. But then he thinks of that weird sheep, the possessed ponies, the (cry) random pokemon,....
>>183257 High Sewn: "Yeah yeah yeah, you've got Mr. 'he's cute to me'. It's not so easy at this age. There's different expectations, stallions are looking for younger mares... Things are different."
>>184530 "Well... It means I've been able to live without a stallion, which is better than I can say for when I was starting up in Canterlot. And you... It still took you what, less than a week to find a stallion? She holds her head up, slightly looking down onto Amber
>>184531 Amber grins abashedly as she looks off to the side, then up at High Sewn. "But do you want to live without a stallion?" Worried about causing offense, she quickly adds, "Well of course there ain't nothin' wrong with not wanting that either, but, um, I would like to?" The last part is spoken in a small, shrill voice. She swallows and adds, "It was pure happenstance with how I got with Mustard. I think we were just fated. He'd never dated a filly and I'd never dated a colt…."
>>184532 High Sewn: "Oh, I've lived with stallions, well, a stallion before. I'd rather live without." She bends her head down and comes closer to Amber. High Sewn is a rather tall, and over all large mare. She must lean down to be even to Amber's level.
"Of course the two of you haven't. Sweet Naivety, and mistakes made. That's what all young love is comprised of, isn't it?"
>>184533 Amber frowns, leaning back a little as if intimidated. "I don't think we've made a mistake. In fact, I've never been happier than I've been with him, and he really is sweet and good-hearted. Maybe you were just unlucky that one time?"
>>184534 scrunchy "I don't mean the whole romance is a mistake, though that is probably true. I mean the mistakes you will make within the romance. Of course he seems sweet and good natured. You're intoxicated on the feeling. When the sobriety finally kicks in, you'll start to see all of his faults, and probably a few of your own."
>>184535 The squat mare's ears fold down. "I've noticed a few faults of his, and shown some of mine, too. Ain't helping each other overcome them part of the appeal? We can be better ponies for each other."
>>184537 Amber crouches and looks up at High Sewn pleadingly. "You can't have resigned to being alone your whole life. You have to try. How can you know if you don't try your hardest?"
>>184543 Somewhat scrunchy “I’ve tried.” A two second pause,
“Anyways… you want to tell me about yours, then?” Leaning down and placing her knees on the table, and resting her muzzle on both hooves. “What is Mr. ‘Cute to me’ like, in more detail?”
>>184570 Amber looks off and back to Ms. Sewn. "Well, he's tall…'bout as tall as you, actually, but he really ought to eat more…er, don't let that fool you, he's stronger than he looks! He, uh, tries to be the best stallion he can be–maybe a little too hard, his ma has these funny expectations he's absorbed. If anything, he's too selfless, since he works to support his ma and sister and he is always askin' to do things for me. I've noticed he can be a little shy at times, but he's real bookish and could easily be an engineer in a few years." She giggles and blushes. "All that shyness goes away when you know him better. He loves touchin' and bein' touched."
>“Where are you going?” "Well, hmm, I think..." Vir says, looks up, and puts a hoof to her chin. "That I'll... Go to the Blackhooves first cuz' their place probably have day opening hours, that I don't wanna miss. Can start there, have to go there anyway to ask about Hope's."
If you wish that I change this line, I can because to be honest, I'm not certain this is a line of thought that my character would come up with. >int 8
>>184579 Amber sits back and runs her hooves through her mane, her face notably redder. "Oh, hehehe, I'm sure you know more 'bout touchin' other ponies than I do. I only know a little bit."
>>184570 He trots over to the corner of the room and grabs what he came there for, his other jackets, and his saddlebag, he then says "See you mares around." Then walks back down the stairs
>>184582 They watch Dark Star as he walks up, takes his jacket, refuses to elaborate, and then leaves. Sorrel raises a hoof to wave to Dark Star as he goes.
>>184584 She still giggles and is too embarrassed to notice High Sewn taking umbrage. "Stallions love being touched…and love touching mares, but they don't get that experience all too often."
>>184586 "Well, according to Mustard, it's the stallion's job to make advances and 'get as much as he can' from a mare, while it's her job to act all coy and either reject his advances or accept them a little at a time. She can't act all briggity for reasons I don't quite understand yet."
>>184587 "That's a bit... Imprecise. The mare is supposed to control the situation from beginning to end. It's the mare who starts the encounter by signaling that she is receptive. Aggression implies a lack of discernment, or perhaps, desperation."
>>184593 "Who is leaving behind? I only have the one! I admit to being flippant and less disciplined about describing myself putting them away as I do describing myself bringing them out, but I ASSURE you I have no interest in leaving evidence," he thinks for a moment about the face-stabbing. "Mostly no evidence, and can be assumed to police not only my affects, but my brass as well."
The bat is on standby, ostensibly with an active spot check but available for any skill checks that our current activity may allow for, though I would prefer to wait for a general prompt from GM before even beginning to 'move'.
>>184629 She looks back towards Vir with sincerity
"What uh, what do you not want them to know?" She sits down. "Your connection with Hope's Anchor? They are the types of ponies to use your love against you. But I think it may be worth it, for a sister. I wish had your position. I mean, to be in a position to maybe help your sister."
>>184590 Dark Star has escaped their clutches. For now.
Glistening Glass looks back up towards Dark Star, says "Hey" an looks back down.
>>184592 "I see... well if you don't want to share, I won't pry."
>>184667 Amber blinks. "It's not that I want to keep anythin' from you, but I've never told anypony about it before. How can I know what's appropriate to say, and what would you like to know?"
>>184667 "Hey" He walks over to the bar "They were up there, i told them they could stay in the room,. you'll probably be seeing them around, keep an eye out for them alright? , make sure they don't get in any trouble"
>>184669 "Oh" She shakes her head, with something like a frown. "Don't worry about it." She raises a hoof to wave off Amber, then she paws it ear her mouth, and then moves over to her jacket and pulls out a set of cigarettes.
"I'm going to go out for a smoke" she says
>>184670 He looks up towards Dark Star again "Sure." He raises his hoof and points it at Dark Star, then gives a wink. "I'll keep them out of trouble."
"So, Father Defiant, what is it that first interested you in the art of exorcisms? Were you cursed? Was your family attacked by shamblers? Is it just your religious calling?" Rosey Ring says "I think we got off on the wrong hoof. You see, in my home town, that is just how we greet ponies that we are interested in." (technically not a lie)
>>184681 I don't think I could express how hard Dust scrunches at "father" if I tried. But rest assured the zeeb is very much scrunching at this." "Yes our meeting was... Unorthodox With you playing a sly little fox.
You ask of my past? For you it I can tell Your question a wide net casts So I shall give it in a nutshell
In Zebrica my family abided A small tribe on the edge of the fields A wise shaman the entire tribed guided And we all lived off what the earth yeilds
However one night by the light of Zanit's moon Against voodoo we faced, and confusion was sewn Although in night we could not tell, it was quite soon That we realized our attacker was undead and bone
Although most escaped with their life There are those who did not leave their fight Although with distrust their tribe was rife We quickly realized we could not stand on our might
A larger tribe to join we seeked However this tribe would bring my fate Although at the time we seemed quite meek To my future this opened the gate
Shaman training I began In the quiet aftermath Although a peacekeeper was the plan The gods expressed a unique path
Although revenge was not my goal The fates aligned to give it so And so the voodoo's final toll Was my first striking blow
A shamans purpose stretches far and wide Healers, leaders, soldier, all these things we trg To say I am not a soldier means I have lied But a soldier against the undead am I." >>184682 Dust smiles at the silly Snej, and looks towards Silver "A shaman is what my title be How I am father I cannot see Shamans are typically title free"
>>184683 I commend you for the excessive effort you take to only speak in rhymes, when I'm too lazy to properly express Posey's European accent.
Posey slowly nods "Tragedy. It is what leads most down the path of exorcism." "I have studied Zebrican voodoo sorcery in detail, but I have never witnessed it myself. Some say the practice of reanimation first emerged in the haunted jungles of Zebrica. It must be dreadful."
>>184683 Kira: "Awwwwwwwwwwww...I'm sorry about your village and tribe, Dust." She opens up her arms in an offering of a hug for Dust, if he so decides he needs/wants it.
Silver: "If it is any consolation, it sounds as if because of that event, you are now able to create much more good in this world."
Silver opens the notebook to find multiple documents typewritten and evidently copied. Some are missing, but several are readable. The first document is titled:
Report of the Inspector Viimeinen kappale “I, Inspector Viimeinen kappale, Affiant, was assigned to compliance inspections of rural villages on the Lifftauf District. On December 25, 1012, I approached the hamlet of Suon Reunalla, a remote indigenous farming settlement located a few kilometers west of the Kuninkaan Kyyneleet river. It lies between the edge of the Lifftauf forest and marshes that join the river, 50 kilometers to the southwest of Sleetfall, and 150 kilometers to the East of Frostbell. The last population census was 86.
Relevantly, the village was the closest settlement to an event on October 10, wherein a massive explosion occurred on the edge of the Lifftauf forest and the costal plains, resulting in a blast wave that could be heard as far away as Skynavia, and an unknown number of kilometers of leveled forest. Residents of Suon Ruenalla reported persistent tinnitus, presumably from hearing damage. The distance from the epicenter is eight kilometers.
The initial approach to the settlement revealed abnormality, as the village council was not there to great me as is custom. The village seemed normal, with chimney smoke and piles of firewood. Further examination revealed the entire settlement to be completely abandoned. Food was left on the table in one instance and in a boiled over pot in another. Beds were unmade and clothing occasionally strewn on the floor or even in the streets. Some doors were open, most were closed. One hut has burned down and was mistaken at a distance for a still burning stove. However, no sign of ransacking was noticed. What few valuables existed showed no signs of being removed, hidden, or searched for. There was no sign of packing for migration.
Eighty-one of the residents of the settlement were eventually found in a canal to the east of the village This paragraph has been redacted at the request of the Free Northern Communes Ambassador. I immediately went to Sleetfall to make contact with the authorities there.
Coming back to Suon Ruenalla, a greater investigation was performed. Symbols recognized and unknown were found on walls, food trays, trees, notebooks, bedframes, and other locations. Words and phrases in several known languages were found, all either nonsense or cryptic and of a pseudo religious nature.
A number of tracks were found leading into, and out of, the forest north of the settlement. Many tracks found did not correspond to known animal patterns, including three-pronged avian-suggesting tracks, dragging tracks implying insect or reptile, and tracks suggestive of massive hoof prints. A number of odd marks and tears were found on trees and logs, although how much of this was caused by or during the prior explosion is unknown. Layers of carbon black soot appeared to be disturbed. Further research is advised on this subject. In multiple areas, water that should have been consistently frozen was found to have melted and refrozen.
Of special interest was an emptied lake previously identified as beneath the point of atmospheric explosion. This area showed signs of fire and especially activity. The bodies of two ponies were found here, evidently dead from violence. At the exact ground zero was a large black object suggestive of a bee, or insect larvae. It appears to have previously given off enough heat to melt the surrounding frost, which has since refrozen. Coming into close physical proximity with the object for extended periods of time was noticed to cause migraines, and looking into any of the several black orbs presumed to be eyes resulted in The following paragraph has been redacted at the request of the Ambassador of the Free Northern Communes. It is unknown why this object was not recognized in the earlier examination of the site. It appears to be mentioned in the first report as a black object presumed to be a meteorite. Why an object so obviously interesting as a meteorite was not then sampled or examined closely is unknow. Perhaps it was then mostly buried under mud and water.”
This report appears to continue, but it is cut off here.
The second document is entitled "The Statement of Tapfere Vorhut to our Stalliongradian comrades."
"We here at the Skynavian Republic are in the interest of advancing the interests of communism worldwide to free all creatures. To this end, we have requested from you four thousand tons of fuel oil, two industrial lathes, two excavators, and three bulldozers. And to you, we have to give a magical creature of surely great power. Our own scientists have found that it has the power to influence others and to conjure things from nothing. See The Report of Science Officer Verenstein attached, and Interview with two survivors, also attached. We cannot extract the greatest possible value from it. For that, we need the scientists and the resources of the Stalliongrad Soviet, the wealthiest, most advanced, and strongest state among the Global Revolution. And when this knowledge is returned to us, we may possibly gain an advantage against our old enemies, The Republicans, reeducate the uneasy Snow Ponies, and prepare for a grand struggle with the ancient nemesis of the Archon in the Imperial City. Then, Griffinkind shall be free, and all the world, soon to follow."
The third document is titled "Notes of Commissar Black Heel. DO NOT DISTRIBUTE copy 3 of 10"
Relief ship Kostroma sent for important scientific mission in the Skynavia region leaving Ravensyoke harbor January 16 with a caretaker-science team to prevent the object from spoiling on the trip, and to gather what information from the object in transit. Of note among the science team are officers Star Fire and Lightwater, the former from the Petershoof Institute, the later a representative of the Arisian Communist Party.
Kostroma is sent out with relief cargo unloaded in Bluffhead, Icebreaker Verlassener Geist meeting us outside of the harbor. Left Bluffhead January 17 with Geist leading the way to Frostbell. Unloaded the remainder of the cargo in Frostbell, and continued to Sleetfall.
We were stuck in the town for two nights as we waited for the Skynavian team to join us. Sleetfall. Sleetfall is a horrid town, with only the cramped home of the mayor to keep us, and no restaurants or bars worth note. They brought the object on improvised log rollers, pulled by a team of snowponies and covered in tarps. Is this how things were done in Stalliongrad 50 years ago? The world wonders.
I’ve seen it. The object. I am not impressed. With its black hide, the unwillingness of the Skynavians to let us see its entire body, its giant teeth, it’s long, crocodile mouth, it’s evidence deceased status, and especially, its size and shape, I would say that we are looking at the carcass of a dead whale, certainly not some beast we have captive. I know it is not good manners to accuse ponies, and particularly our Skynavian allies, of conning us, but if this were an outright purchase and I had say, I would have refused. We would provide aid to our Skynavian allies anyways, however."
Ponies report feeling uncomfortable near it, or having bad dreams in its presence. I can understand why. It's creepy, especially if you've never seen a dead whale before. But I doubt it was worth the trouble."
The third document is titled, "Report of Science Officer Star Fire"
"Entity stored in cargo hold three, temperature kept at a constant 3 degrees Celsius. Entity resembles an animal, albeit one adapted for some unknown, alien world. Comparisons to the carcass of a dead whale, or to a giant bee are apt. By all accounts it seems to be dead, and has no detectable heart rate. A static electricity-like effect causes approaching it to feel uncomfortable. Its hide feels plastic, and gives way to the touch. Junior officer Patient Pipette attempted to cut into the hide with a scalpel, which was ineffective, and then approached later with a cutting tool. Office Pipette produced a melted cutting tool, and swore that the entity had done it. This is consistent with what has been reported of the entity. See attached document AUTOPSY REPORT. She refused to collect a further sample. Magic detectors as well as radar detectors confirm the emanation of multiple varieties of magic and electromagnetic energy from the entity. Light Water was fascinated with the magical energy, and tested amplification."
Document five is short, titled "Star Fire Report Addendum"
"I awoke this morning to great revelation. The griffin Philosophers are correct.
Subjects do not conform to objects, but objects conform to subjects. “The thing in itself” is an illusion. Representation is but the product of the will, and subjects are themselves simply points within this greater will. But a few, tiny few subjects have wills of their own. And with these wills, they can control the representation, and thus, objects.
Do you understand what this means? With a sufficient will, you can bend reality itself."
“It showed itself to me in my dreams last night. It came to me in the form of a sea goddess of my homeland. A giant, kraken like creature I recognize from the stories and prints from my chickhood. It could have taken any form. It chose that form because it wanted to impress me. It was surprised when I was not impressed. I was lucid. I told it that gods do not exist. It expressed shock and protested that somehow it knew gods existed, a behavior not unlike that of rustics when you meet them. I explained to it that there was no such thing. Whatever alicorns, draconequuses, or the like may exist, I need not call them “gods,” and I care not what beings my ancestors made deals with. To my surprise, it took to this concept quickly, understanding atheism, and why all faith in gods must be eliminated.
I recognized in its speech that belief that inequality is inherent in nature which is so often repeated by those who do not know better. I explained to it that different creatures have different qualities, but these qualities do not equate to moral worth. One can never derive ought from is, in any event, and morality must be socially constructed, as it is not inherent in nature. It expressed skepticism, but consumed my ideas ravenously, and was quick to comprehend. Modern philosophy is alien to it, but not unwelcomed.
I explained to it the problem of education, and how creatures are molded by their environment, and cannot easily modify their behavior, nor way of thinking, to a more enlightened state. I compared this old way of thinking to its own preconceptions, which are so similar to those of rustics, yet which the visitor to my dream so open mindedly reconsidered. I explained how I wish there were more like it – him, her, it, they. As we conversed, it felt like hours, it changed form, from a kraken, to an alicorn, to a fluffy mare. And it sat their and listened. The questions it asked were like those of a child. But a curious child is much wiser than the close minded military general, priest, or businessgriff, in any case. I will admit I was disappointed that it did not profess to come from a more enlightened culture, as hoped, and in fact found my own views to be the refreshing change.
I explained to it the promise of science and technology, and of the advances in the sciences, arcane, physical, and biological. It professed ignorance of science generally but claimed a special power to manipulate matter. I explained to it the troubles that beset us – famine, disease, war, and in general, want. It had heard of these ideas before, even if it could not articulate their nature to me. It said it could help. It could help all of creaturekind.
It could manipulate the scenery of my dream at will, to be sure, and I took pleasure in explaining the scenes it took from my memories to it. Who else could I show Mount Aris, or the bottom of Tenneris Atoll, or the fruit trees behind my grandmother’s house, or the Palace of the Soviets, all in one day, and they respond in befuddlement to all of it?
When I awoke, I felt sadness, as the most refreshing conversation I had in my life to that point had come to an end. But there was comfort too, as it was still with us, and waiting to come to me again the next time I closed my eyes. What I saw was real. And I know that I can make if not a full, converted communist of this visitor to our world, at least a fellow traveler.
>>184687 >>184688 >>184689 Silver: "Чертовы идиоты. All of these warning signs, and yet they still sought to acquire it in this trade deal between Stalliongrad and Skynavia. They wanted to use it to spread communism, forcefully convert those nonbelievers to their ideology. They wanted to harness its ability to control minds. Seems as though it was not nearly as dead as they thought, and it managed to turn its powers against Kostroma crew with this Light Water's help. That is what they were talking about over radio, mentioning Light Water and his puppets." Silver reads through it again, hoping to gain more insight. "This is good information to have. Looking at it, or being in its presence, seems to induce feeling of unease and migraines. We will have to fight that feeling if we are to be successful in our aim to vanquish this being. I wish they had not redacted some of this report, though maybe when we find survivors we may ask them what looking into its eyes results in. I am most worried about this report from Star Fire. Hopefully our weapons will be more effective than scalpels or cutting tools. Perhaps use of magic will be needed to pierce its hide. It also seems to lack much in way of understanding of our world. Assuming it has not pulled information from minds of those it is controlling, we might use this to its advantage. It might not be able to know what sorts of tactics we might plan or use."
>>184667 >But I think it may be worth it, for a sister. I wish had your position. I mean, to be in a position to maybe help your sister. Vir nods along to this.
>Your connection with Hope's Anchor? "No," she says and looks to the side. "More that she change her mind on the way. Wouldn't it be funny if she actually settled down in some nearby church. Hehe."
She pauses and then looks up.
>hey are the types of ponies to use your love against you. "Ah, I didn't consider that they would use our connection against me but as you say, I kinda have to go. I don't really know... How would you approach if you were me?"
>>184685 >I commend you for the excessive effort you take to only speak in rhymes Are you kidding me? That's the best part of playing a zebra Dust nods solemnly at Posey "According to rumors Voodoo methods are crude We have heard of ponies Whose methods must cease At the risk of sounding rude Their existence is like a tumor.
Voodoo summons are like a foal's creation Mishapen and falling to peices while few can stop them It seems pony summons are of more education Their work is much neater than even a dressmakers hem." >>184686 Dust decides to take Kira up on her offer. Her hugs are kind of addicting at this point. He seems to seriously think about what Silver has said
>>184690 "I hope you wouldn't mind indulging me in a word for word account. What you have said has left me with more questions than I am particularly interested in stringing together one at a time." Brie wants to be able to be able to not metafag. I'll assume Silver obliges, for simplicity. "Very clever. While I won't even begin to speculate on the nature of this,... well what do you call it when the Sallion's own account is inconsistent. I'll just say "the odd bug", well it's using tactics basic to Con artistry. It begins by deducing an increasingly appreciable appearance. Not entirely sure what a Kracken is (sounds like a snack) but morphing from an alicorn into a unicorn seems like a deescalation, except this is all supposed to be a dream? If working with a group, you would start with an asshole who eventually leaves, but the con is done by the nice guy. In any case, the "odd bug" is very quickly assimilating the viewpoint of this Professor, and the only reason one does that is either in situations of extreme survival, or when one is planning a double-cross. Or both."
"I can try to attempt to rephrase,.... When one wants to pull a fast one on somepony, if you can trick them into thinking that you are buying what they are selling, especially from an initially 'oppositional' stance, they will pften dostract THEMSELVES from what you are actually doing. It's the principle behind the Cantor-City-Shuffle (Kansas City Shuffle), where they look right while you go left."
>>184683 >>184692 "'Bad creatures need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good creatures should look on and do nothing.' The situation when that sentence was coined was quite different but it most certainly applies today. I am sorry about what happened to your village but you are now uniquely suited to fight that type of evil."
>>184690 "Those who are ideologically fanatical, or sufficiently greedy, can and often have put into motion the engine of their own destruction. I must ask, what is 'it' we're speaking of? It sounds like a strange creature, and from what you said we may have to use explosives."
>>184697 >>184698 Does Brie speak Severyanan? My character knows only the info Silver has shared.
Even beneath his bodysuit, Brie somehow appears to pale as a thought dawns on him. "We have to find the airship, NOW! This thing controls minds, like a radio right? With an airship it could... Night Mother be with us...."
>>184704 Yes, he/I am monologuing for a moment. "All this foriegn alien/demonic shit was distracting me, this is a hostile takeover! I'm fuzzy on alot of the details, but if I were this Traveler thats been described - quite possibly this bug/alligator thing - I would want to get to as large a population center as quickly as possible. Instant army of thralls! Whats the largest population center in all of Equestria?" He finishes rhetorically.
>>184706 "Perhaps, lets HOPE it (the airship) isn't repairable or we may ALREADY be doomed. But even Stalliongrad is liable to have at least ONE decent mechanic, and depending on the damage, even I might be able to repair the devices. I was kinda hoping to,... and steal it,..."
>>184707 I won't get into just how long this would take on a time critical mission. I don't mind requiring players to summarize info only their characters would understand, but in a PBP campaign it can get frustrating so let's just hoof-wave it.
"However immature and malleable this thing is, it has no qualms about using intelligent creatures as mere pawns to control. It will need to be taught the error of its ways, one way or another."
>>184697 Kira: "Oh, krakens are like giant squids! I've heard they're responsible for sinking ships in the deepest parts of the ocean. I sure am glad none tried to sink the ship I was on when I came to Equestria."
Silver: "This thing - which Light Water is now confirmed to be the originator of its 'Our Fellow Traveler' name - seems to be primarily interested in knowledge, both receiving and giving it. From Posey's experiment earlier with Sea Stone, however, it only knows how to pass on this knowledge by assimilating minds of others into itself. It mentioned not knowing death, but perhaps our, uh...actions, might have given it that little kernel of information to ruminate on." Silver motions to the body of the pony Brie finished off. "It transforming within Light Water's dream was likely way to appear more pleasing or comforting to this hippogriff rather than coming to him in its base form, and it changed form as it learned how Light Water thought. Learning he did not believe in gods, it changed away from 'godly' forms to more normal one in form of mare."
>>184700 Silver: "Clearly, it is something not from this realm. It likely is not supposed to be in this realm, with how much discomfort just being near it causes. We do have some frag grenades. Perhaps we can shove some down its mouth if it has one, or perhaps some other orifice. I doubt its insides are as durable as its outside."
>>184708 >>184709 Silver: "May I ask why we should radio mad scientist? And what is it you are planning to do with airship?"
>>184678 It's not a terribly shorty walk, and the weather is chilly, but it isn't a very long walk either. He makes his way there, once again finding himself at the entrance
>>184710 So reading a few pages of the first presumably honest first hand account of the antagonist you're dealing with is too much time, but getting into PvP over feral livestock isn't?
>>184688 Rosey Ring gives a slight chuckle at the story, pointing a hoof "A classic tale. You can even see the point where the writer lost his autonomy and surrendered to the will of his new master. The communists really believe in equality over all else, to the point where they refuse to acknowledge cataclysmic differences in willpower, and that was their undoing this time." she says, smiling calmly "These communists came across the cadaver of a creature of unknowable power, and they were so quick to exploit it for their own ambitions that they did not even consider if they had the personal power to contain it, let alone control it. It is a rooky mistake, one that has spelled the downfall of many great mages, including the master of my master...." she says, reminiscing, before her eyes start back and fourth and she changed the subject away from her master "Since these communists were not able to control the Traveller, it controlled them. Perhaps the Traveller was sincere about its belief of equality and the magic of friendship, or perhaps it was lying to deceive them so that they would surrender their minds. Nevertheless, their contact was doomed from the start: being of such strong will who lurk beyond the void will always dominate those beneath them. In their nightmarish home, reality is an opinion: it is only through force of will and altering their surroundings that they are able to have any degree of autonomy, or even survive at all. When brought to divinely morphic worlds like ours, aberrant entities of sufficient power will act same as they did in their homeworld. The concept of friendship based on equality may have perhaps been appealing to it, as it is something so alien to its horrible world, but even if it has genuine intentions, the result is the same, as their difference in power was to great between them, even if the communists captured its alien heart. Scorpions never change their nature." She concludes "I believe that The Traveller would not bluff the scale of its powers. If my speculation is correct, it may be something as powerful as a quasi deity, or an entity of similar power, but it has most likely regressed into dormancy for its journey and the subsequent trauma of the arrival. It may become a threat to this entire realm of it is allowed to grow to its full power and reshape reality to its will." She puts her chin up "I, for one, will not stand for an unwelcome immigrant to dominate and bend this world to its will. I intend to stop it, exhausting the full extend of my powers if I must do so, even if it has nothing to do with the mission." She looks to the party "Will any join?"
>>184712 >mad scientist No, Im talking about Captain Shoal Waters, who contracted us for this mission, and gave the radio to Silver (we had a moment about it). "This is beyond national powers and economic rivalries. Tell our Captain that our opposition force is an entity of unknown origin, likely to be targeting a major population center using the airship," Brie's brain is going a mile a minute now.
>>184712 "I would prefer something with more potency. There might be something on that ship. It had a laboratory…." He turns to Defiant Dust. "Your knowledge of chemistry and alchemy is very useful. Could you fabricate some explosives if you had access to equipment?"
Also rolling knowledge (arcana) in case Cavaliere knows of magic that allows such total domination of other living beings: [1d20+7 = (10+7) = 17]
>>184715 "So it seems you are confirming that the controversial philosophers, often lumped together as the 'anti-rationalists', were correct that reality is malleable to the whims of the few who can control it?" He pauses, and continues, "I agree with you that if this is true, then we can't let our reality be controlled by the vicious and mad."nevermind that Posey is both vicious and mad
>>184716 "Any radio transmission we make could be overheard, and if a Stalliongrad vessel intercepts it then they'll know we'll have uncovered their secret and will rush to stop us. New Mareland is hours away from any help, and if they tried it could trigger a conflict. No, we should avoid any calls until we are close to leaving, not just for our sake but for that of the griffons and the airponies. The responsibility rests on us today."
And finally, "We should make our final plans once we've spoken to the Commissar. It's best not to rush into anything now."
>>184715 Silver: "You will hear no objections from me."
Kira: "Yeah! Let's stop this thing!"
Silver: "Let us first meet with surviving communists, see if we can form joint plan of attack to get aboard that vessel."
>>184716 >>184717 Oh, right right. Sorry, it can be confusing at times with names in this setting.
Silver: "That is likely good idea to wait to contact them. Let us save for emergency, such as if it becomes imperative that Kostroma must be destroyed, political consequences be damned. We should keep our camera ready, however. We should take any pictures we can of our adversary and its summons for proof."
>>184719 Posey knows much more about magic, and is especially familiar with the magic of domination that vampires love to spam at anything that moves. Rolling to see if she can recall anything specific. Arcana [1d20+11 = (2+11) = 13] Spellcraft [1d20+16 = (19+16) = 35]
>>184717 >>184718 Currently outvoted, but not in agreement, Brie bites his tongue. To Garv: "It may not matter if our communication is intercepted. It may be that all of Stalliongrad is compromised, trending toward greater Equestria!" To Silver: "Remember, our mission parameters are the airship and the marines. If I'm RIGHT, the airship is the key to saving/dooming Equestria. While contracted for 10 marines and some sensitive equipment, we're beyond the pale here. Its not about what we were tasked with anymore, but IMo our first responsibility is containment, which means disabling the airship."
>>184721 Posey has seen Vampire magic used, has seen the Traveller's domination, and can quickly discern this much:
The enchantment magic that Posey is familiar with has a kind of quality of refinement to it. It's honed and purpose made to control minds in various kinds of ways. What Posey has seen here lacks that kind of refinement, subtlety, or efficiency. This is something more akin to brute force. Something more powerful. It uses a diverse array of forms of magic, almost like using multiple weapons at once to see what sticks. The subjects under it are left in an odd state, where they have knowledge they would not otherwise have, are physically shaking, eyes tremble and have other physical problems, though that might just be from their master neglecting the need of the controlled subjects for warmth and water, and they speak in gibberish as if they were insane. Posey can tell that the dominant energy is physic. It's as if the Traveller is extending a portion of its own consciousness into the controlled subjects.
Also. Most domination supernatural abilities abilities, including Posey's own gaze, have a 24 hour cooldown after an opponent has successfully resisted once. Posey has already resisted the Traveller's domination today, and did so with a Nat 20. With that check, can Posey discern that she cannot be dominated by the Traveller for the next day? If she knows this, she can act strategically.
>>184725 Silver: "Perhaps, but it could also simply decide to try to unbeach Kostroma. It could attempt to summon enough of these monstrosities to push ship off back into water, and from there sail to Stalliongrad."
>>184734 "Okay, I'll accept that by sea theyre less of an existential threat. Shall we eliminate by air? Lets put it differently. How co.fortable would you be with ME being able to mind control a seemingly unlimited number of ponies in a given vicinity? Now imagine this 'me' might have an airship." He ends his mini-tirade with a "is there still a question" shrug.
>>184735 >>184736 Damn, a nat 20 goes a long way towards convincing Silver. He has just two concerns left, and if there's a satisfactory answer for them then you can count him as being convinced:
1.) "Who is to say he has limited range to be able to control or convert others? As he grows in power he might be able to extend his influence further and further beyond."
2.) "Airships are not especially sturdy creations. Put few rounds into its hull and it will go up in flames."
>>184738 >1 "Idfk! The mind control I know of deals with broken mares and questionable substances!" Brie is no help on item 1 >2 "I WANT to share your confidence. Perhaps some tea," Shall I do the tea ceremony again? "Silver, dont be naïve. I came on this mission cuz, Iwant the airship; I can't be the only one. But it also seems that one of the vying partoes is an ELDRITCH FUCKING HORROR....
>>184734 "It is more likely that it has more nefarious means. The creature is supposedly immobile and dormant, for now. If it is from the Far Realm, is was likely used to warping reality around itself than moving with its own strength, and it still needs to adapt its body to this realm to move freely, not to mention the trauma it would have experienced upon impact. It may be need fuel to complete itself or return to its full power, and the psychic energy of ponies may be that source of fuel. My hypothesis is that it is feeding off of its thralls, and its current priority is drawing more thralls towards itself, until it collects enough energy to pupate and complete its metapmorphosis. Once it does that, it should be free to fly or teleport wherever it wishes, and reshape this entire realm to its will." She pauses "New thralls may also include us. It may be drawing us into a trap, to feed off of us and thus complete . I have already resisted its influence once. Shielding my mind from aberrant madness was part of my training, but the rest of you may not be so lucky if you draw too close.... At close range, its mental domination will be its most potent weapon." >>184690 >Hopefully our weapons will be more effective than scalpels or cutting tools. Perhaps use of magic will be needed to pierce its hide. "The object was able to withstand impact after falling from atmospheric height, and it has demonstrates resilience against extreme heat and cold, as well as resistance to mundane physical damage. From this, we know that it possesses at least some form of supernatural damage reduction in addition to energy resistance, if not total immunity." She says "However... So long as it is a living thing, it can be killed. With no ability to move on its own, it cannot evade my touch. If I only hold my open hoof to its snoot, I can use my blackweave powers to rot from the inside out. No damage reduction, energy resistance, or spell resistance would save it from my touch."
She produces a flower from her bag and holds it between her hooves. The flower begins to warp and grow pestilent black spots and fade in color, before it withers and rots away entirely
"However..." She says "It should still able to retaliate with supernatural means, even if it is immobile. I will need help defending myself against its summons or other attacks, if I am to get close enough it." >>184738 Diplomacy does not work on PCs any more than charm would.
>>184742 "If the creature is still immobile when we face it, I may be able to solve this problem with only one touch. Hopefully we can find it before it completes its metamorphosis."
>>184740 >>184742 "Our mission was to remove the airship and tech from the Stalliongradii. I wont lie, stealing the airship has been on my.mind from the beginning. No better way of denying Stalliongrsd than taking for ourselves (he means Myself). But this.gpes beyond"
Silver: "Protect you while you kill it? I think we can do that."
>>184739 Silver: "I am not so certain we would be able to fix it just like that, otherwise it is something Navy ponies would have already done. But, if that is your aim, there is no better way to ensure it than to kill Traveler. It removes eldritch threat and communist threat at same time. Something tells me after this event, these communists will want nothing to do with this island and will only want to get back home."
>>184745 "It really pains me to say, but I suspect the commies are bystanders to this just as we are. "Fixing it" seems secondary to "preventing its spread"
>>184745 "An immobile creature cannot dodge or defend itself from attack, and I could pump raw entropy directly into its core. A living creature can be affected by my powers. So long as it is alive, and not undead or constructed, my powers should affect if." She says "One touch. A boop-de-grace, you could call it." she concludes
I haven't had the chance to coup-de-grace a non-trivial enemy with a weaponlike spell attack in a long time. I am so excited for this.
>>184746 "Stalliongrad has a tendency of bullheadedly pushing its policy forward no matter the pony cost. If we leave this entity here, they will bring it to the mainland as a matter of time. Let's not let their folly bring about any further consequences."
>>184748 "Stalliongrad hasn't had a potential hivemind. Imagine what would happen if Communism worked, cuz pony individuality were vanquished." Brie shudders involuntarily

Flapping sounds, and a set of griffins fly down back into view. One of them says "what was that?" While others shout in a foreign language. A single "Baa" is heard from the mist, and Mala walks over towards the corpse of the dead sailor.
The sun hangs low on the southwestern horizon, and as the party walks the hill and closer to the old village, the southwestern hill that marks the southwestern edge of the island casts a long shadow, dramatically darkening the dull, brown-green grass. A light, but chill wind blows, and with it, the fog eases.
>>184752 Vir goes outside to see the large, concrete neoclassical structure of the bank across a small park within a roundabout with a statue in the center that has been planked up, evidently for repairs. Going into the city, there is a department store on one corner, a cinema in another, and then a few buildings with restaurants and shops in mixed use buildings before endless rowhouses start to dominate.
>>184745 >Poor flower... Posey draws another flower and gives it to Kira "Every flower withers eventually. Their fleeting, ephemeral nature makes them all the more beautiful." >>184750 >It can at least be shut out under certain circumstances >I want to say yes, but I feel like this would have horrific unforeseen consequences I can't think of any, except that players who succeeded would be able to approach it with a degree of confidence that they resisted it. The alternative might be the suggestion that this monster has an (Su) domination ability that it can just spam every minute/round until we eventually fail our saves even if we initially succeed, and imho that is a little bit unfair as far as monster design goes, especially since all the other characters besides the Cleric have lower Will saves than Posey, but if that's how it is, bring it on, I'll fight whatever it is..... Also muh nat 20. >>184751 No. She is undead, not alive. It would heal her. Charnel touch can only damage living things. Also, it's not a spell. Charnel Touch is an (Su) ability, but she could also deliver a spell alongside it. My idea was to coup-de-grace what appears to be an immobile living creature with a negative energy touch attack that should bypass damage reduction, hardness and energy resistance. >y u make noodle sad I just really like the "withers a flower in her grasp" aesthetic. It makes me feel like a powerful Necromancer, even if I still can't cast animate dead. It also fits my death/flowers theme. Rosey Ring always has her pockets full of Posies, just so she can do that trick. >>184753 >A single "Baa" is heard from the mist Oh good, Mary is okay. We can go get her after we defeat the traveller. Unless Kira would like to go track her down now. >The sun hangs low on the southwestern horizon "We must go soon, before the cold arrives."
>>184757 The first little pony, a brown earth pony stallion on the street near the department store, says "Why would you ever want to do that?" And when pressed, says, "No, I don't know where they are
>>184756 Okay, so Posey is aware that Charnel touch not merely can't kill everything, but can actually heal some things
>>184761 >Okay, so Posey is aware that Charnel touch not merely can't kill everything, but can actually heal some things Yes, she is well aware of the limitations of the lvl 1 basic weak attack that she uses in every encounter. She just proposed it as a way to deal with an immobile yet living creature that supposedly resists physical damage. I guess there's a nonzero chance that this thing could be undead, based on its description. Let's see if Posey knows this: Religion [1d20+11 = (17+11) = 28] And Arcana, in case it's a construct or other creature that is immune to necromantic effects [1d20+11[

As the party progresses along the bridge through the dim, grey fog, they pass the ruins of low, stone walls that once demarcated padolcks and fields, and see small stone buildings, just big enough for a pony to fit inside.
Through the fog, and in the distance, gunshots. A roar. And the outlines of a few buildings
>>184778 He's been there a couple times. It has separate rooms for eating, distribution of food, and of course, a kitchen
>>184777 What a cute damn noodle holy shit. Dust smiles at her enthusiasm. >>184779 Oh lovely, combat tonight. Dust follows the rest of the party along
To the left, and closest, abutting a stone wall is what must have once been a house, with its roof long since caved in. It has a rectangular shape, and is probably 20 feet by forty feet, perhaps smaller. To the right is a low, three foot wall that has openings on the left and right. Beyond that is a small, round conical building.
But what is most interesting is what is beyond that in front of them. It is a home identical in shape to the one mentioned before - made of stone, rectangular in shape, and though it has half a chimney and the walls on the ends extend up in a triangular shape, there is no roof.
Inside of this building, which has several empty window spaces, there can be heard speaking, and then bang.
Between the party and the building can be seen two ponies in uniform, trembling. One has a rifle, and is levelling it at the building. On the wall of the house closer to the party is standing one of those black, starfish things. Another appears to the far right in the mist.
Perhaps most interesting is what lurks through the mist further away. At first it can be seen only in outline, but as it comes closer, more detail can be discerned. It's massive, twelve or even more feet tall, with long, spindly legs. It walks on its four, stilt like legs before it approaches the ruined house, where it stands up right. Whether it has grey fur, or if it is completely naked with grey skin is hard to say, though it surely is mostly grey with large patches of bare, pink skin as if it were the product of biting for mites. On its head are not one, but two large heads, both appearing equine in shape, and with one head more evenly placed than the other, as if an additional head had been sewn on. Indeed, the face has the appearence of grafting and sewing, with large scars that look as if facial reconstruction after grave physical trauma had been done, and lips that are so odd in shape as if to suggest the mouth were sewn shut. The eyes are golden and mostly normal looking, save that they focus on nothing. Ears are equine, pink on the inside, and stand up. The thing leans over, picks up a stone that has fallen off of some ruined structure, and tosses it inside of the ruined house, with a shout of "Blyat!" following
>>184784 The elders were right, the oceans are bad, if only for the fact that by crossing them Dust has exposed himself to this. Knowledge religion, surely if this thing is a demon Dust has heard of it. [1d20+9 = (16+9) = 25]
>>184784 Cavaliere draws his revolver and takes cover behind the wall. He talks in a low voice to Silver and Kira.
"There is another one of those–" he gestures to the starfish "–on the right. If we take the one out in front and then the one to the right, we could fan out and attack from multiple directions."
At this moment, over 100 feet for the closest starfish, and 150 feet for the tall, two headed creature. The fog is easing up, visibility is at least 200 feet. The party seems unnoticed so far
>>184789 Okay cool. That doesn't technically rule out undead. But uh, I don't like thinking about this thing. It's very horrifying Dust looks to the others. One of his ears is twitching wildly and his eyes seem a lottle larger than normal. He seems tk be waiting for instructions
>>184794 Technically the enemies are distracted and therefore the party has the opportunity for a surprise round. but if Brie wishes to sacrifice any kind of stealth and just fly right at them, sure, he can roll initiative
>>184797 >>184794 The big question to ask ourselves is if we want to engage them with our ranged weapons as is and advance while firing, or if we want to sneak closer before revealing ourselves.
Oh, another question: how much space is between this new abomination and the trapped commies?
>>184797 Rolling for initiative doesnt mean jumping in front of them and announcing "were fighting", it means the next thing Ibdo will be clmbat related
>>184801 Okay, that definitely changes things. My vote is that we attack from where we are with our ranged weapons and advance. We can draw the attention of these abominations towards us and away from the survivors.
>>184805 Cavaliere's eyes are wide as he watches through a gap in the wall, and he quietly opens the cylinder on his revolver to check it before closing again.
>>184807 The griffon nods. "They are intent on the ponies there which might make it difficult. If you can lure them, we can hit them from three different angles as they approach. Make sure to not get close to the sealers in the back."
He moves farther along the wall to have a flanking shot from the right.
>>184815 Yay! You get to see the abomination we're seeing! When you're done reading up, what are your thoughts on our plan of attack: do we attack now from range and draw the monsters to us, or sneak in closer and risk more harm coming to the commies?
>>184784 Okay, Posey sees two monsters that haven't seen us yet. It looks like they're targeting somepony in the building, likely surviving commies. My money is on this monster being something like a modified spellwarped Ettin. It should be defeatable at our level of power.
We could either go around the distracted monsters and leave the commies to their fate, which would save our resources and avoid detection by the others, or we could save the commies and get information. These decisions are a lot easier when killing things gets you XP.... But I say we should kill it anyway because they are ugly and ugly things are bad.
Since we haven't been detected, we should get a surprise round. If attack strategically, we could end the fight on round 1 without risking detection by the others. We already know the starfish can be slain, and I have doubts that the abomination has more than 70 HP.
Rosey Ring readies her bow. Her Dreads ready their rifles.
"As an experienced warmagus and expert in all things dead or dying... I propose that we kill them to death." >>184823 Healers never go in first. Healers stay in the back lines. We should send the thief in first. The thief is the close range fighter anyway. Just make sure Silver is within charging range (60 ft) before we begin the surprise round.
I could argue both ways. Theres merit in saving commies, theres merit to dealing with the SOURCE of the problem. Not dealing with this problem might bute us in the ass, or it could save us time and effort. Brie thinks the airship is probably about to take off and doom the planet, so going around is agreeable
>>184826 That's the decision we were deciding on: attack from range where we are and draw them away from the commies, or sneak in closer for the attack and risk further harm coming to the commies.
>>184827 OOC, I don't think it's the Traveler's plan to use the airship. It would risk exposing itself to danger traveling to the airship, the airship would still need repaired, and it's pretty well safe where it is right now. It just needs to get the ship unbeached so it can get to Stalliongrad and gain access to the bodies and minds it needs.
>>184830 Well, all hes gonna do is position himself for a delayed action charge attack, waiting on.... Silver to.move first Aimed at the abomination. The charge attack grapple.maneuver
>>184833 How far away are we? I would like to be within 100 ft before beginning the surprise round Silver should be within 60 ft, so he can charge into melee
>>184830 She moves to 120 ft distance. I forgot she's using a bone bow. >>184839 I'm sorry if my absence messed up the session. I had to go minutes before GM posted that long description.
Our highest initiative characters are almost guaranteed to win initiative after the surprise round. If the abomination has as many hit points as an ettin or similar melee monster of expected challenge rating, we may be able to kill it before it moves if we focus fire. If we end this combat on the first round, we can start tomorrows session with more exploration, so I would rather do this now. >>184842 Since the fog is white, can I claim a +2 circumstance bonus on any Hide checks to avoid potential notice for moving within the first range increment of my bow?
I am more confident that I wont regret waiting until tomorrow, than that I won't regret playing tonight. Im sure itll be fun either way, but Ive been up since 5 (its 11)
>>184773 I haven't really made it clear, but Virgin's cloak is tan with Celestia's cutie mark sun symbol on both the cloak's back and one smaller on her hoodie. In my latest drawing of her in the OOC thread, you can see what I mean.
I assume they will get her allegiance from that alone. Perhaps, we can go with that since it's on her back they don't see it at first or something so we don't have to retcon it.
"Rebel? Rebel against what?" Vir asks while tilting her head and looking up at them. She's confused.
My first question is a spot check [1d20+8 = (13+8) = 21] to try and see if anything about the situation seems off. I'm alluding to when Brie and Garv got ambushed.
>>184867 If sufficient, it would be followed by a sense motive check at a penalty against the Traveler's Bluff check (probably at a bonus cuz hes remotely operating the drones lol) [1d20+8 = (6+8) = 14]
I'm going to assume that if this IS an ambush,... and I am assuming that, that those rolls would likely not be sufficient to be certain, and in the face of uncertainty, he assumes the worst. Brie wishes he was in audible range of everyone without ruining their surprise, cuz he thinks that theres a good chance that if we do swoop to and save the day, those commies might get hacked and start shooting us in the back. This traveler is testing us with moves like a chess player.
>>184865 Does the symbolism align with any specific religious order?
"Against the caretaker government." He answers, evidently in disbelief . "Against us here."
>>184867 What has been right? The starfish, Brie knows, can move fast, the big one can probably throw things, and one of the Petrushka has a rifle. Is there more he isn't seeing? Hard to say. There is a house to the left that may hide something, and a third behind the middle. All this is besides what hides beyond the veil of fog.
About 50 feet in front of the party members is a stone, low wall, two and a half to 3 feet tall. A natural break exists on the left. To move over one of these walls is at least a move action. To the left of the break in the wall is a ruined house, with the narrow side facing the party. It is on top of the near, long-side wall that one of the starfish stands.
In front of the party, just in front of the wall, is a stone storage hut maybe 8 feet wide and a little shorter. Behind these another 50 feet is the house of interest, the one where the voices come from, and next to which the large creature stands. Behind this is another house, and beyond this there are shapes that are not discernable in the dim fog. To the right is a break in the wall that seems to have come down with time, and a starfish stands looking towards the house, with a storage hut in the distance.
>>184882 Technically the Starfish can move fast. It was Octopi that could camouflage. Brie sees nothing that looks like one of those Octopi, and a million places they could hide.
>>184888 Cavaliere considers moving up to that next wall as cover, but decides against it and instead huddles against the nearer stone storage hut. Can he use the camouflage net in his inventory as a makeshift hunter's blind?
Wait, why are people with ranged attacks and no close range limitations moving closer? I want my surprise round.
I said earlier Posey is waiting to shoot. If a failed stealth roll is going to compromise the surprise round I would like to treat that as a readied action before initiative kicks off
>>184907 Flying in broad daylight is the exact opposite of stealth. Maybe Brie can have an initiative roll, but there’s no way he could be airborne and unseen.
>>184908 Not trying to be contentious, but in that Brie's suit employs a camouflage pattern, he could maybe be said to have a degree of concealment if utilizing the fog to his advantage (which he would). His max range on a charge is 60', so he could be at 90', charge to 30', and take the shot?
>>184909 Initiative is rolled even for a surprise round. I maybe should have communicated better, I thiught 40'might be overhead enough to avoid notice
>>184915 Yes. The starfish on the left is the easiest, simply move up (quietly enough) to the wall, crouch behind the wall, and through a knife up at the starfish.
Technically any of the enemies could be sneak attacked, they are just going to notice an object moving in the sky in their peripheral vision.
>>184918 No lol, I'm using the pistol to start with. Need me to roll anything? He would attempt to (with whatever applicable penalties) maneuver into position to get a sneak attack right as Garv fires his shot (assuming)
So long as we attack first, the enemy is going to be flat-footed. It shouldn't be that complicated for everyone to attack on the surprise round. The fact that they haven't attacked us yet means we get a surprise round, on which we can all attack them flat-footed.
>>184922 Im just being particular because you only get a single action on a surprise, either movement or whatever; rogues cant sneak attack past 30', so Brie has to close distance before the surprise round single action to be able to get a sneak attack.
The black unicorn clear can’t resist Vir’s cuteness
“Yes… what do you need to know. We’re with the military, not uh, not the Blackhooves. They have a place in downtown that’s their regional headquarters.”
>>184940 Ah, well then it's correct. Idk, remember if I had any diplomacy skill ranks but I have +0 in cha. >>184941 >uwu ^^ >oh no Ikr ^^ >The black unicorn clear can’t resist Vir’s cuteness <3 Vir's snowpity has a similar essence to a blend between AJ and Derpy.
"...Oh, okay," Vir says, surprised that her pleading worked. Then she beams up. "Oh. Oh! Thank you!" She gives him a friendly tap with her feminine but meaty hoof. "Didn't really think you'd help a sister out. That's so nice of you. Do you know in which building they are in?"
How does the pegasus stallion react to this by the way? Is he also effected by her simple charm or is he annoyed by his friend's simping?
>>184942 The Pegasus extends a leg in front of his unicorn companion, the latter of whom is slightly behind the former. "Careful. She could crush you with those thighs."
The black unicorn answers "Yes, they are in the Grand Baltimare Hotel. It's about two blocks over that way" Pointing in front of himself and past Vir, basically east and towards the ocean. "And... well, quite a few blocks down, but you'll recognize it by the security presence."
Well, there's two types of weaponized cuteness mares can use: adorableness, and sexiness. The latter is probably easier for Vit simply because of her age, but she's a pony mare, so she has access to either. I assumed you meant she used big pony eyes on the stallion.
>>184943 Okay, sadly only watched the very first nine episodes of GoT, years ago, so I don't know of which scene you're referring to. But I am curious. Could you elaborate? >>184945 >Worst pony-tier... ;P Otherwise, ty. Virgin would appreciate the compliment in the same sense as if I told you, 'you're great at cooking'. She doesn't see her own appeal. She thinks that she lacks feminine grace due to her bulk and muscles. She kinda sees herself a bit like a colt, sort of. I haven't made up my mind on that yet. Hmm. >>184947 <Woah, Glimmer! Great moves. <Woah, Glimmer great. <It's a good day to have a good day. <It's a good day to have a good day. >>184948 Share you're esoteric knowledge about marez nao! ^^ >>184946 >I assumed you meant she used big pony eyes on the stallion. You assumed correctly. >Well, there's two types of weaponized cuteness mares can use: adorableness, and sexiness. Where in the PhB can I find this? >The directions given by the unicorn "Ah, thank you. I really appreciate it. You're quite the helpful fellow," Vir says and beams at him but >"Careful. She could crush you with those thighs." she snorts heightens her one of her eyebrows. "But you're friend is silly. First off, you should only use violence as a last resort.-" She nods to her own wise words. "-Secondly, who attacks with their rump?"
Okay, everypony in the Mended Horn group. You have a surprise round if you want to take it. One standard action, which is a single attack. Take it if you like. Otherwise, say what you want your character to do
Dust nods solumnly as the rest of the party takes their positions closer to the beasts. He stays further behind than the others, but plods quietly away from the party to create separation. We'll say about a 90 degree angle between him and the party if the abomination is the vertex. Hopefully enough that it will target him well before attacking the others, and give them a flanking advantage.
He stops just short of stepping out from behind cover, he says a short prayer to Zanit and Aztartes. Let this battle please them. He draws a line behind him in the dust with his back hooves. He will not cross back over that line until he or this monster breathe their last, and with that he steps out from behind cover. He makes no attempts to be stealthy, but he's not making his presence known. He then prays. The words are lost at the distance, but even the party can hear a small rhythmic chant. If they are watching him, they can see a small greenish glow begin to engulf Dust, starting from the ground, through his hooves, and into his barrel. He's glowing pretty well now, it should be obvious to anything in the area. Dust then raises a hoof, and the glow moves from his barrel to his hoof. The glow shoots forth as a thin beam, aimed straight at the abomination where it stands. Ranged touch attack [1d20+4 = (18+4) = 22] Damage [3d8 = 14]
>>184966 >>184962 Silver and Kira follow suit, taking aim with their weapons.
Silver lets out a battlecry, shouting to the party: "НИКАКОГО СТРАХА, НИКАКИХ КОЛЕБАНИЙ, НИКАКОЙ БОЛИ, НИКАКИХ РАСКАЯНИЯ!" They can't tell what he says but it sounds inspirational. He fires his rifle, it letting out a sharp BANG as he takes aim at the giant abomination.
[1d20+11 = (6+11) = 17] [2d8 = 10]
Working the bolt with practiced swiftness, Silver takes aim again at the giant creature and fires.
[1d20+6 = (20+6) = 26] [2d8 = 8]
Kira gulps, and takes two arrows. The creature is beyond the comfortable range of her bow, so she isn't planning on pulling any fancy tricks. Accuracy is prioritized over flash. Drawing her powerful bow string, she lets loose two arrows back-to-back aimed at the same giant abomination.
Cavaliere is a little over 50 feet from the abomination. This places him within two range increments of it. He is within a sort of hunting blind he's made from the camouflage net next to the stone hut, and is also behind a three-feet wall. From a distance the net looks to be some kind of moss or bush on the side of the structure.
He opens the net just enough to extend a claw out and shoot dead center at the abomination, and then closes the opening to hide once more as he observes. Ranged attack: [1d20+6 = (7+6) = 13] Damage: [2d6 = 7] Hide: [1d20+3 = (3+3) = 6] (the rulebook says there's a -20 penalty to hiding after an attack, but the monsters are distracted and Cavaliere is within concealment which would add a very hefty circumstance bonus)
>>184966 Uh, he'd have to move to the left past the ruined house on the left, and jumping over another wall. It's completely doable, but he'd have to circle around behind a ruined house.
>>184971 No, you opnly get the single attack in a surprise round. After that, initiative is rolled, and the fight begins in earnest.
Think about it. The idea of a surprise round is that the enemy doesn't know you're there. But in the two to three seconds it takes to draw another bow or to cycle a bolt, that's enough time for an enemy to flinch and maybe assume a more defensive posture.
Okay, so Posey goes first in initiative? She does a repeat of her previous turn, cursing herself for squandering the benefit of surprise. Luckily, the enemy is still flat-footed.
Posey attacks with her bone now: [1d20+6 = (16+6) = 22] Damage [1d10+3 = (6+3) = 9] (iajutsu needs to be rolled separately) Iajutsu Focus [1d20+8 = (9+8) = 17]
Her Dreads fire their rifles Dread 1: [1d20+5 = (7+5) = 12] Damage [2d8 = 6] Dread 2: [1d20+5 = (7+5) = 12] damage [2d8 = 12]
>>184991 >I think Brie fell asleep He did post his character sheet and give us permission to use his modifiers. Let's just have him attack at range while flying, so he won't die. He has improved feint, so he can spend move actions to sneak attack targets that can see him.
>>184999 Nah, I think we need to wait for him for combat. If it was something like some skill checks I wouldn't feel bad, but I don't think it's fair to do an entire combat without him when he seems to love combat so much.
>>185002 There will be more encounters. Well, if there is ever a non-pivotal combat encounter, and I am not present, let the record show that you can play without me.
>>185132 Yes, I appreciate that I have to explain exactly what I mean in exacting detail in advance cuz I have to compensate for a game I dont know when is gonna play, and a whole lot of personal shit. I got it. Moving on, I will be entirely unambiguous just to be sure.
As a non actionable example, what I would have said is: "Brie's primary focus will be on getting 5d6 damage on the surprise round with his pistol on either Starmie or the giant, and then eliminating through stab or compromising through grapple whoever is left, especially anyone using a more-than-light weapon."
Im ranting in here so I dont derail/fuck up elsewhere. But like, of all the things to have an unresponsive character who was JUST setting up for a strategic attack,...
>>185145 I had him fly to within 30 feet of the big enemy and make an attack, which necessarily required waiting until initiative was rolled. You very strongly implied this is what you wanted him to do.
I was just waiting on you to say “he sneaks around the house to walk up behind the giant.” Or even “yeah, let’s just stick with the starfish.” But you never did. It was “okay, he flies sneakily.” I said no. Then you said “but isn’t flying at 30 feet in broad daylight sneaky?” I said no again and then that’s kind of just where it stopped, with no conclusion.
>>185158 You're right. I DIDN'T EXACTINGLY SAY, though I REASONABLY though I sufficiently indicated. I was waiting on the actual initiative call for that. I said before, I get it.
>>185165 I still can't figure out what you would have had Brie do. >"He would have just flown sneakily in his surprise round I've already said that can't be done in a surprise round
K, so sorry to keep bringing this up,... especially after what I said previously, but there's something I really need to emphasize; if Brie doesnt take FULL advantage of ALL his skills and abilities, he dies quickly. I would LIKE to make a case that because he would be trying to nonlethal the whathefuckevernamed ponies, he would have been fighting defensively, which puts his AC up to 21.
Trust me, I could go into stupid detail about the layers of options available and the contexts in which he would attempt/employ them, ESPECIALLY (sometimes) where self preservation is the goal Istfg if he dies for stupid shit,...
