Their fleeting, ephemeral nature makes them all the more beautiful." >>184750 >It can at least be shut out under certain circumstances >I want to say yes, but I feel like this would have horrific unforeseen consequences I can't think of any, except that players who succeeded would be able to approach it with a degree of confidence that they resisted it. The alternative might be the suggestion that this monster has an (Su) domination ability that it can just spam every minute/round until we eventually fail our saves even if we initially succeed, and imho that is a little bit unfair as far as monster design goes, especially since all the other characters besides the Cleric have lower Will saves than Posey, but if that's how it is, bring it on, I'll fight whatever it is..... Also muh nat 20. >>184751 No. She is undead, not alive. It would heal her. Charnel touch can only damage living things. Also, it's not a spell. Charnel Touch is an (Su) ability, but she could also deliver a spell alongside it. My idea was to coup-de-grace what appears to be an immobile living creature with a negative energy touch attack that should bypass damage reduction, hardness and energy resistance. >y u make noodle sad I just really like the "withers a flower in her grasp" aesthetic. It makes me feel like a powerful Necromancer, even if I still can't cast animate dead. It also fits my death/flowers theme. Rosey Ring always has her pockets full of Posies, just so she can do that trick. >>184753 >A single "Baa" is heard from the mist Oh good, Mary is okay. >>184756 Okay, so Posey is aware that Charnel touch not merely can't kill everything, but can actually heal some things
>>184761 >Okay, so Posey is aware that Charnel touch not merely can't kill everything, but can actually heal some things Yes, she is well aware of the limitations of the lvl 1 basic weak attack that she uses in every encounter. She just proposed it as a way to deal with an immobile yet living creature that supposedly resists physical damage. I guess there's a nonzero chance that this thing could be undead, based on its description. Let's see if Posey knows this: Religion [1d20+11 = (17+11) = 28] And Arcana, in case it's a construct or other creature that is immune to necromantic effects [1d20+11[

As the party progresses along the bridge through the dim, grey fog, they pass the ruins of low, stone walls that once demarcated padolcks and fields, and see small stone buildings, just big enough for a pony to fit inside.
Through the fog, and in the distance, gunshots. A roar. And the outlines of a few buildings
>>184778 He's been there a couple times. It has separate rooms for eating, distribution of food, and of course, a kitchen
>>184777 What a cute damn noodle holy shit. Dust smiles at her enthusiasm. >>184779 Oh lovely, combat tonight. Dust follows the rest of the party along
To the left, and closest, abutting a stone wall is what must have once been a house, with its roof long since caved in. It has a rectangular shape, and is probably 20 feet by forty feet, perhaps smaller. To the right is a low, three foot wall that has openings on the left and right. Beyond that is a small, round conical building.
But what is most interesting is what is beyond that in front of them. It is a home identical in shape to the one mentioned before - made of stone, rectangular in shape, and though it has half a chimney and the walls on the ends extend up in a triangular shape, there is no roof.
Inside of this building, which has several empty window spaces, there can be heard speaking, and then bang.
Between the party and the building can be seen two ponies in uniform, trembling. One has a rifle, and is levelling it at the building. On the wall of the house closer to the party is standing one of those black, starfish things. Another appears to the far right in the mist.
Perhaps most interesting is what lurks through the mist further away. At first it can be seen only in outline, but as it comes closer, more detail can be discerned. It's massive, twelve or even more feet tall, with long, spindly legs. It walks on its four, stilt like legs before it approaches the ruined house, where it stands up right. Whether it has grey fur, or if it is completely naked with grey skin is hard to say, though it surely is mostly grey with large patches of bare, pink skin as if it were the product of biting for mites. On its head are not one, but two large heads, both appearing equine in shape, and with one head more evenly placed than the other, as if an additional head had been sewn on. Indeed, the face has the appearence of grafting and sewing, with large scars that look as if facial reconstruction after grave physical trauma had been done, and lips that are so odd in shape as if to suggest the mouth were sewn shut. The eyes are golden and mostly normal looking, save that they focus on nothing. Ears are equine, pink on the inside, and stand up. The thing leans over, picks up a stone that has fallen off of some ruined structure, and tosses it inside of the ruined house, with a shout of "Blyat!" following
>>184784 The elders were right, the oceans are bad, if only for the fact that by crossing them Dust has exposed himself to this. Knowledge religion, surely if this thing is a demon Dust has heard of it. [1d20+9 = (16+9) = 25]
>>184784 Cavaliere draws his revolver and takes cover behind the wall. He talks in a low voice to Silver and Kira.
"There is another one of those–" he gestures to the starfish "–on the right. If we take the one out in front and then the one to the right, we could fan out and attack from multiple directions."
At this moment, over 100 feet for the closest starfish, and 150 feet for the tall, two headed creature. The fog is easing up, visibility is at least 200 feet. The party seems unnoticed so far
>>184789 Okay cool. That doesn't technically rule out undead. But uh, I don't like thinking about this thing. It's very horrifying Dust looks to the others. One of his ears is twitching wildly and his eyes seem a lottle larger than normal. He seems tk be waiting for instructions
>>184794 Technically the enemies are distracted and therefore the party has the opportunity for a surprise round. but if Brie wishes to sacrifice any kind of stealth and just fly right at them, sure, he can roll initiative
>>184797 >>184794 The big question to ask ourselves is if we want to engage them with our ranged weapons as is and advance while firing, or if we want to sneak closer before revealing ourselves.
Oh, another question: how much space is between this new abomination and the trapped commies?
>>184797 Rolling for initiative doesnt mean jumping in front of them and announcing "were fighting", it means the next thing Ibdo will be clmbat related
>>184801 Okay, that definitely changes things. My vote is that we attack from where we are with our ranged weapons and advance. We can draw the attention of these abominations towards us and away from the survivors.
>>184805 Cavaliere's eyes are wide as he watches through a gap in the wall, and he quietly opens the cylinder on his revolver to check it before closing again.
>>184807 The griffon nods. "They are intent on the ponies there which might make it difficult. If you can lure them, we can hit them from three different angles as they approach. Make sure to not get close to the sealers in the back."
He moves farther along the wall to have a flanking shot from the right.
>>184815 Yay! You get to see the abomination we're seeing! When you're done reading up, what are your thoughts on our plan of attack: do we attack now from range and draw the monsters to us, or sneak in closer and risk more harm coming to the commies?
>>184784 Okay, Posey sees two monsters that haven't seen us yet. It looks like they're targeting somepony in the building, likely surviving commies. My money is on this monster being something like a modified spellwarped Ettin. It should be defeatable at our level of power.
We could either go around the distracted monsters and leave the commies to their fate, which would save our resources and avoid detection by the others, or we could save the commies and get information. These decisions are a lot easier when killing things gets you XP.... But I say we should kill it anyway because they are ugly and ugly things are bad.
Since we haven't been detected, we should get a surprise round. If attack strategically, we could end the fight on round 1 without risking detection by the others. We already know the starfish can be slain, and I have doubts that the abomination has more than 70 HP.
Rosey Ring readies her bow. Her Dreads ready their rifles.
"As an experienced warmagus and expert in all things dead or dying... I propose that we kill them to death." >>184823 Healers never go in first. Healers stay in the back lines. We should send the thief in first. The thief is the close range fighter anyway. Just make sure Silver is within charging range (60 ft) before we begin the surprise round.
I could argue both ways. Theres merit in saving commies, theres merit to dealing with the SOURCE of the problem. Not dealing with this problem might bute us in the ass, or it could save us time and effort. Brie thinks the airship is probably about to take off and doom the planet, so going around is agreeable
>>184826 That's the decision we were deciding on: attack from range where we are and draw them away from the commies, or sneak in closer for the attack and risk further harm coming to the commies.
>>184827 OOC, I don't think it's the Traveler's plan to use the airship. It would risk exposing itself to danger traveling to the airship, the airship would still need repaired, and it's pretty well safe where it is right now. It just needs to get the ship unbeached so it can get to Stalliongrad and gain access to the bodies and minds it needs.
>>184830 Well, all hes gonna do is position himself for a delayed action charge attack, waiting on.... Silver to.move first Aimed at the abomination. The charge attack grapple.maneuver
>>184833 How far away are we? I would like to be within 100 ft before beginning the surprise round Silver should be within 60 ft, so he can charge into melee
>>184830 She moves to 120 ft distance. I forgot she's using a bone bow. >>184839 I'm sorry if my absence messed up the session. I had to go minutes before GM posted that long description.
Our highest initiative characters are almost guaranteed to win initiative after the surprise round. If the abomination has as many hit points as an ettin or similar melee monster of expected challenge rating, we may be able to kill it before it moves if we focus fire. If we end this combat on the first round, we can start tomorrows session with more exploration, so I would rather do this now. >>184842 Since the fog is white, can I claim a +2 circumstance bonus on any Hide checks to avoid potential notice for moving within the first range increment of my bow?
I am more confident that I wont regret waiting until tomorrow, than that I won't regret playing tonight. Im sure itll be fun either way, but Ive been up since 5 (its 11)
>>184773 I haven't really made it clear, but Virgin's cloak is tan with Celestia's cutie mark sun symbol on both the cloak's back and one smaller on her hoodie. In my latest drawing of her in the OOC thread, you can see what I mean.
I assume they will get her allegiance from that alone. Perhaps, we can go with that since it's on her back they don't see it at first or something so we don't have to retcon it.
"Rebel? Rebel against what?" Vir asks while tilting her head and looking up at them. She's confused.
My first question is a spot check [1d20+8 = (13+8) = 21] to try and see if anything about the situation seems off. I'm alluding to when Brie and Garv got ambushed.
>>184867 If sufficient, it would be followed by a sense motive check at a penalty against the Traveler's Bluff check (probably at a bonus cuz hes remotely operating the drones lol) [1d20+8 = (6+8) = 14]
I'm going to assume that if this IS an ambush,... and I am assuming that, that those rolls would likely not be sufficient to be certain, and in the face of uncertainty, he assumes the worst. Brie wishes he was in audible range of everyone without ruining their surprise, cuz he thinks that theres a good chance that if we do swoop to and save the day, those commies might get hacked and start shooting us in the back. This traveler is testing us with moves like a chess player.
>>184865 Does the symbolism align with any specific religious order?
"Against the caretaker government." He answers, evidently in disbelief . "Against us here."
>>184867 What has been right? The starfish, Brie knows, can move fast, the big one can probably throw things, and one of the Petrushka has a rifle. Is there more he isn't seeing? Hard to say. There is a house to the left that may hide something, and a third behind the middle. All this is besides what hides beyond the veil of fog.
About 50 feet in front of the party members is a stone, low wall, two and a half to 3 feet tall. A natural break exists on the left. To move over one of these walls is at least a move action. To the left of the break in the wall is a ruined house, with the narrow side facing the party. It is on top of the near, long-side wall that one of the starfish stands.
In front of the party, just in front of the wall, is a stone storage hut maybe 8 feet wide and a little shorter. Behind these another 50 feet is the house of interest, the one where the voices come from, and next to which the large creature stands. Behind this is another house, and beyond this there are shapes that are not discernable in the dim fog. To the right is a break in the wall that seems to have come down with time, and a starfish stands looking towards the house, with a storage hut in the distance.
>>184882 Technically the Starfish can move fast. It was Octopi that could camouflage. Brie sees nothing that looks like one of those Octopi, and a million places they could hide.
>>184888 Cavaliere considers moving up to that next wall as cover, but decides against it and instead huddles against the nearer stone storage hut. Can he use the camouflage net in his inventory as a makeshift hunter's blind?
Wait, why are people with ranged attacks and no close range limitations moving closer? I want my surprise round.
I said earlier Posey is waiting to shoot. If a failed stealth roll is going to compromise the surprise round I would like to treat that as a readied action before initiative kicks off
>>184907 Flying in broad daylight is the exact opposite of stealth. Maybe Brie can have an initiative roll, but there’s no way he could be airborne and unseen.
>>184908 Not trying to be contentious, but in that Brie's suit employs a camouflage pattern, he could maybe be said to have a degree of concealment if utilizing the fog to his advantage (which he would). His max range on a charge is 60', so he could be at 90', charge to 30', and take the shot?
>>184909 Initiative is rolled even for a surprise round. I maybe should have communicated better, I thiught 40'might be overhead enough to avoid notice
>>184915 Yes. The starfish on the left is the easiest, simply move up (quietly enough) to the wall, crouch behind the wall, and through a knife up at the starfish.
Technically any of the enemies could be sneak attacked, they are just going to notice an object moving in the sky in their peripheral vision.
>>184918 No lol, I'm using the pistol to start with. Need me to roll anything? He would attempt to (with whatever applicable penalties) maneuver into position to get a sneak attack right as Garv fires his shot (assuming)
So long as we attack first, the enemy is going to be flat-footed. It shouldn't be that complicated for everyone to attack on the surprise round. The fact that they haven't attacked us yet means we get a surprise round, on which we can all attack them flat-footed.
>>184922 Im just being particular because you only get a single action on a surprise, either movement or whatever; rogues cant sneak attack past 30', so Brie has to close distance before the surprise round single action to be able to get a sneak attack.
The black unicorn clear can’t resist Vir’s cuteness
“Yes… what do you need to know. We’re with the military, not uh, not the Blackhooves. They have a place in downtown that’s their regional headquarters.”
>>184940 Ah, well then it's correct. Idk, remember if I had any diplomacy skill ranks but I have +0 in cha. >>184941 >uwu ^^ >oh no Ikr ^^ >The black unicorn clear can’t resist Vir’s cuteness <3 Vir's snowpity has a similar essence to a blend between AJ and Derpy.
"...Oh, okay," Vir says, surprised that her pleading worked. Then she beams up. "Oh. Oh! Thank you!" She gives him a friendly tap with her feminine but meaty hoof. "Didn't really think you'd help a sister out. That's so nice of you. Do you know in which building they are in?"
How does the pegasus stallion react to this by the way? Is he also effected by her simple charm or is he annoyed by his friend's simping?
>>184942 The Pegasus extends a leg in front of his unicorn companion, the latter of whom is slightly behind the former. "Careful. She could crush you with those thighs."
The black unicorn answers "Yes, they are in the Grand Baltimare Hotel. It's about two blocks over that way" Pointing in front of himself and past Vir, basically east and towards the ocean. "And... well, quite a few blocks down, but you'll recognize it by the security presence."
Well, there's two types of weaponized cuteness mares can use: adorableness, and sexiness. The latter is probably easier for Vit simply because of her age, but she's a pony mare, so she has access to either. I assumed you meant she used big pony eyes on the stallion.
>>184943 Okay, sadly only watched the very first nine episodes of GoT, years ago, so I don't know of which scene you're referring to. But I am curious. Could you elaborate? >>184945 >Worst pony-tier... ;P Otherwise, ty. Virgin would appreciate the compliment in the same sense as if I told you, 'you're great at cooking'. She doesn't see her own appeal. She thinks that she lacks feminine grace due to her bulk and muscles. She kinda sees herself a bit like a colt, sort of. I haven't made up my mind on that yet. Hmm. >>184947 <Woah, Glimmer! Great moves. <Woah, Glimmer great. <It's a good day to have a good day. <It's a good day to have a good day. >>184948 Share you're esoteric knowledge about marez nao! ^^ >>184946 >I assumed you meant she used big pony eyes on the stallion. You assumed correctly. >Well, there's two types of weaponized cuteness mares can use: adorableness, and sexiness. Where in the PhB can I find this? >The directions given by the unicorn "Ah, thank you. I really appreciate it. You're quite the helpful fellow," Vir says and beams at him but >"Careful. She could crush you with those thighs." she snorts heightens her one of her eyebrows. "But you're friend is silly. First off, you should only use violence as a last resort.-" She nods to her own wise words. "-Secondly, who attacks with their rump?"
Okay, everypony in the Mended Horn group. You have a surprise round if you want to take it. One standard action, which is a single attack. Take it if you like. Otherwise, say what you want your character to do
Dust nods solumnly as the rest of the party takes their positions closer to the beasts. He stays further behind than the others, but plods quietly away from the party to create separation. We'll say about a 90 degree angle between him and the party if the abomination is the vertex. Hopefully enough that it will target him well before attacking the others, and give them a flanking advantage.
He stops just short of stepping out from behind cover, he says a short prayer to Zanit and Aztartes. Let this battle please them. He draws a line behind him in the dust with his back hooves. He will not cross back over that line until he or this monster breathe their last, and with that he steps out from behind cover. He makes no attempts to be stealthy, but he's not making his presence known. He then prays. The words are lost at the distance, but even the party can hear a small rhythmic chant. If they are watching him, they can see a small greenish glow begin to engulf Dust, starting from the ground, through his hooves, and into his barrel. He's glowing pretty well now, it should be obvious to anything in the area. Dust then raises a hoof, and the glow moves from his barrel to his hoof. The glow shoots forth as a thin beam, aimed straight at the abomination where it stands. Ranged touch attack [1d20+4 = (18+4) = 22] Damage [3d8 = 14]
>>184966 >>184962 Silver and Kira follow suit, taking aim with their weapons.
Silver lets out a battlecry, shouting to the party: "НИКАКОГО СТРАХА, НИКАКИХ КОЛЕБАНИЙ, НИКАКОЙ БОЛИ, НИКАКИХ РАСКАЯНИЯ!" They can't tell what he says but it sounds inspirational. He fires his rifle, it letting out a sharp BANG as he takes aim at the giant abomination.
[1d20+11 = (6+11) = 17] [2d8 = 10]
Working the bolt with practiced swiftness, Silver takes aim again at the giant creature and fires.
[1d20+6 = (20+6) = 26] [2d8 = 8]
Kira gulps, and takes two arrows. The creature is beyond the comfortable range of her bow, so she isn't planning on pulling any fancy tricks. Accuracy is prioritized over flash. Drawing her powerful bow string, she lets loose two arrows back-to-back aimed at the same giant abomination.
Cavaliere is a little over 50 feet from the abomination. This places him within two range increments of it. He is within a sort of hunting blind he's made from the camouflage net next to the stone hut, and is also behind a three-feet wall. From a distance the net looks to be some kind of moss or bush on the side of the structure.
He opens the net just enough to extend a claw out and shoot dead center at the abomination, and then closes the opening to hide once more as he observes. Ranged attack: [1d20+6 = (7+6) = 13] Damage: [2d6 = 7] Hide: [1d20+3 = (3+3) = 6] (the rulebook says there's a -20 penalty to hiding after an attack, but the monsters are distracted and Cavaliere is within concealment which would add a very hefty circumstance bonus)
>>184966 Uh, he'd have to move to the left past the ruined house on the left, and jumping over another wall. It's completely doable, but he'd have to circle around behind a ruined house.
>>184971 No, you opnly get the single attack in a surprise round. After that, initiative is rolled, and the fight begins in earnest.
Think about it. The idea of a surprise round is that the enemy doesn't know you're there. But in the two to three seconds it takes to draw another bow or to cycle a bolt, that's enough time for an enemy to flinch and maybe assume a more defensive posture.
Okay, so Posey goes first in initiative? She does a repeat of her previous turn, cursing herself for squandering the benefit of surprise. Luckily, the enemy is still flat-footed.
Posey attacks with her bone now: [1d20+6 = (16+6) = 22] Damage [1d10+3 = (6+3) = 9] (iajutsu needs to be rolled separately) Iajutsu Focus [1d20+8 = (9+8) = 17]
Her Dreads fire their rifles Dread 1: [1d20+5 = (7+5) = 12] Damage [2d8 = 6] Dread 2: [1d20+5 = (7+5) = 12] damage [2d8 = 12]
>>184991 >I think Brie fell asleep He did post his character sheet and give us permission to use his modifiers. Let's just have him attack at range while flying, so he won't die. He has improved feint, so he can spend move actions to sneak attack targets that can see him.
>>184999 Nah, I think we need to wait for him for combat. If it was something like some skill checks I wouldn't feel bad, but I don't think it's fair to do an entire combat without him when he seems to love combat so much.
>>185002 There will be more encounters. Well, if there is ever a non-pivotal combat encounter, and I am not present, let the record show that you can play without me.
>>185132 Yes, I appreciate that I have to explain exactly what I mean in exacting detail in advance cuz I have to compensate for a game I dont know when is gonna play, and a whole lot of personal shit. I got it. Moving on, I will be entirely unambiguous just to be sure.
As a non actionable example, what I would have said is: "Brie's primary focus will be on getting 5d6 damage on the surprise round with his pistol on either Starmie or the giant, and then eliminating through stab or compromising through grapple whoever is left, especially anyone using a more-than-light weapon."
Im ranting in here so I dont derail/fuck up elsewhere. But like, of all the things to have an unresponsive character who was JUST setting up for a strategic attack,...
>>185145 I had him fly to within 30 feet of the big enemy and make an attack, which necessarily required waiting until initiative was rolled. You very strongly implied this is what you wanted him to do.
I was just waiting on you to say “he sneaks around the house to walk up behind the giant.” Or even “yeah, let’s just stick with the starfish.” But you never did. It was “okay, he flies sneakily.” I said no. Then you said “but isn’t flying at 30 feet in broad daylight sneaky?” I said no again and then that’s kind of just where it stopped, with no conclusion.
>>185158 You're right. I DIDN'T EXACTINGLY SAY, though I REASONABLY though I sufficiently indicated. I was waiting on the actual initiative call for that. I said before, I get it.
>>185165 I still can't figure out what you would have had Brie do. >"He would have just flown sneakily in his surprise round I've already said that can't be done in a surprise round
K, so sorry to keep bringing this up,... especially after what I said previously, but there's something I really need to emphasize; if Brie doesnt take FULL advantage of ALL his skills and abilities, he dies quickly. I would LIKE to make a case that because he would be trying to nonlethal the whathefuckevernamed ponies, he would have been fighting defensively, which puts his AC up to 21.
Trust me, I could go into stupid detail about the layers of options available and the contexts in which he would attempt/employ them, ESPECIALLY (sometimes) where self preservation is the goal Istfg if he dies for stupid shit,...
