>>133137"Ah, it is nothing."
He gives his griffon a squeeze, and returns to watching television.
>>133139>>133138There is a gangway plank (exactly one) up to the ship. The gangplank has a rope across it to signify that the ship is not open, although the rope clearly wouldn't and couldn't stop someone determined to ignore it
>>133140Griffin is squeezedShe seems to like the affection. When the Orchestra is finished with the song, they play a different melody. This new melody, much, much older in its origins, is among those recognized as a "classic"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6u-2NDsEgA >>133141Hopefully the gangway has railings, because Amber has already made her mind up. She ducks under the rope and tentatively goes up.
>>133129>>133141For the proper experience watch in 144p, though even that is probably too good for TVs of the time.>>133134Aww, I'm still looking forward to you joining. >>133141"This TV was worth its price, to be able to sit here with you and listen to music."
>>133134We hope you'll join us
>>133142And Amber moves under the rope. (Yes, it does have railings). It takes Amber up a level to a covered walk way on the first floor of the structure above the hull. There are any number of portals and windows to the side.
>>133143"This is very nice... I never had anything like this back home"
>>133144Ponies have to steer a ship at the front to see where they're going, right? She trots over to the bow deck of the ship.
>>133145This leads her to a stairs that goes down onto a wooden deck, and before the bridge
>>133144"I have to agree, it
is very nice. But this moment is what I am truly relishing most about this TV."
>>133147The camera switches, showing a close up of a unicorn playing the violin, crossing the string back and forth.
"Huh?"
Jubilosa doesn't seem to understand, but she goes back to watching, still laying her head on Silver
>>133146Now Amber is obviously not very knowledgeable about modern ship layout, but she knows that upstairs is probably the best place to look around, so she goes up.
>>133135Spark holds up the sample.
"It may have been an accident, but my friend is really sick. I believe this is what might have caused it."
>>133149It looks like there isn't an external stairs to go up to the next level. There are a couple doors, however, to go into the structure. From Where amber is, she can see the bridge, the white superstructure, and the forward mast.
>>133150She shakes her head
"What is that supposed to be?"
[1d3 = 1] >>133151Amber will go into the nearest door then, that is, if it opens normally.
>>133154The door does not open. It seems to be locked
>>133148Silver smiles, turns his head, and plants a kiss on the top of Jubilosa's.
"Never you mind, Jubilosa. Let us just enjoy this moment."
>>133151"I was hoping you might have that kind of answer. The doctor didn't know either."
>>133156Mala moves over and sits down on the ground near Silver
Khoi looks around, kind of confused, and sits on the other couch
>>133157"I'm just the receptionist" she says
>>133155She frowns.
Maybe I shouldn't be here in the first place. This was awfully foalish of me. She anxious walks back to where the gangplank should be.
>>133158"I was hoping you might know a pony I can speak to about this is what I mean."
>>133159Up the gangplank comes a slightly reddish brown griffin in a blue uniform. "Hey filly! You are not supposed to be here"
>>133160"There's an assayer...?" she turns her head, kind of pulling her lips up in suggestion
>>133161Amber is surprised by the appearance of the creature to the point she takes a step back.
"Er…I didn't realize at-at the time. I'm, um, I mean I was just having a look around." >>133163The griffin comes closer. He blocks Amber's only known path out of the ship
"The ship is closed at the moment. You can't be here kid"
He looks like he is wearing the uniform of some company. His facial expression is stern and not really friendly. He has a definite accent, so strong it's hard to understand him. What that accent is, Amber can't really say, but it's different than that of the griffins she encountered earlier
>>133162"Uh... let me check"
She moves back, and looks down the hallway, and then comes back
"Sure. He's up the stairs, second door on the left. Go there, and only there."
>>133164Amber tries to smile but her expression winds up looking more like a grimace.
"I'm…I'm sorry sir, I was just curious about this boat…." >>133164Spark heads there, though curious why the receptionist specified not to go elsewhere.
>>133165"Well be curious at a distance. We're supposed to sail this week and we don't need stowaways or vandals damaging things"
>>133166Into the hallway with tile floors, and up the wooden stairs, Spark knocks on the door to a "come in," and opens to see a lab with metal tables, beakers, a microscope, and a dark green pony who glistens in multiple shades.
>>133158Silver smiles at Mala, and looks over to Khoi.
"So, if none of us have seen TV before, am I safe to assume that also applies to you?"
>>133167"Hello. I believe you are the pony I need to see."
>>133169"Back to Rottendam. This ship has been holed up in harbor for three months, for fear even a ship under nuetral flag is not safe. But we've wrestled her from the colonial customs, and the Republican Navy is all smashed to pieces as of a week ago. She is set to leave again in a few days."
>>133170He looks at Spark, literally shining as he smiles
>>133168Khoi:
"What is TV"
Mala:
"I could see it playing in Maakie's room"
"What do you need?"
>>133171"Oh, it is like radio, but it shows images in addition to sound."
>>133172"Skyfall. Their ships are sunk or in repair in harbor, and what is left wouldn't bother a ship under the Imperial flag"
He moves aside, to make room for Amber
>>133173She blinks, but focuses on the television
"I see"
>>133171"I have a friend who is very sick and I think that this might be why, but I have no idea what it is.."
Spark reveals the sample.
>>133175He looks at it
"You want me to tell you what this is?"
>>133176"I need to know to be able to get the doctor to recommend me a treatment."
>>133174"Oh. Right." She squeezes by, a stupid expression on her face.
I didn't know we were at war with Skyfall. Or maybe Feathisia is. Hopefully whenever I can afford a newspaper I won't be making an ass out of myself. >>133178He looks at the rock dust under a microscope
"This is cummingtonite. It's a crystal, almost fibrous, made of iron and silica. It occurs right alongside the Magnetite we mine in the same rocks. It's produced as a waste in tailing. It's not
directly poisonous... But I wouldn't recommend eating it."
>>133177Khoi sits down on the couch, looking almost like she's waiting for something as she watches the television. Mala seems to have zoned out, but looks content. Jubilosa is unambiguously enjoying the moment.
A Stallion stands before the screen, evidently the conductor:
"Alright, that was Symphony B from Beathooven by the Baltimare Symphony Orchestra. Now, for Starlight's Walz."
>>133180"It might have been consumed indirectly. I heard that it was knocked into a fishing spot."
>>133180Silver, for his part, is enjoying the nice, peaceful moment spent in good company, as well as the calming music from a bygone era.
>>133181"I don't know. It's normally iron and silicate, but sometimes its Manganese. It's forms crystalline structures that are sometimes fibrous, almost like asbestos... I couldn't tell you what happens if you inhale or drink it. There are not usually heavy metals. Maybe Calcium or Sodium, but mostly silicate rocks."
>>133179He lets her by, watching her the whole way with a skeptical look
>>133182Silver is able to continue this for a while, with the orchestra playing more songs as time progresses. Jubilosa doesn't seem to want to move, and Khoi doesn't seem to know what else to do.
>>133183"Would that be enough for the doctor to narrow down a treatment?"
>>133183Amber gives one last apologetic glance back before descending the gangplank as quickly as possible without risking tripping.
>>133186And since Amber would probably just be at the dock again, she'll be going north along the road closest to the water.
>>133180I had to look up the name of that mineral to make sure you weren't making it up.
Some geologist had a sense of humor. >>133185He shrugs
"I don't know how it would make you sick. But I'm not a doctor. I don't think it's metal poisoning, though"
>>133186He stands at the top, and watches her go.
Amber passes several relatively higher end shops on the small peninsula, and then onto a diagonal road with a clocktower, a school, and multiple apartment buildings along it
Okay, now I see the joke >>133184Silver looks over at Khoi, noticing her lack of interaction.
"What is wrong? You have been quiet."
