She couldn't go into the library or the police would detain her, and hiding wouldn't work because they would probably search the whole manor. "A bat zebra?" He turns his head briefly away. "I'm not... sure if I've ever seen a bat and a zebra hybrid. There's a decent number of zonies though. More so now a days. There's a small population of zebras just a little further west that were brought in as laborers centuries ago, there's a few zebras that have come in over the years as foals of sailors and traders, and of course there's a whole bunch of them who immigrated recently. And of course these have made zonies, though zebras tend to stay with zebras. Bats... they mostly keep to themselves down south, mostly, but they've started moving into the city these past few decades. But a bat zony? I... think I've seen one? Not sure."

"I'm trying to think. I may have seen one, an adult, on the street. And I think I've seen an infant. Honestly it isn't always easy to tell. If they don't have wings they will just look like a zony, and if they don't have obviously visible stripes they'll just look like a pony."

"All bat ponies have wings, but if one or more of the ancestors isn't a bat pony, the foal might not. It's the same as with pegasi mating with other ponies. Zonies will have stripes, yes, but not always the same amount. If it's a low enough zebra mixture they might just look like ponies. And when you're just walking down the street or looking at them from behind the bar it can be hard to get a good look without staring."
