Personally I think OP is on to something, I've had similar thoughts for a long time. My experiences lurking in these alt/dissident/whatever political spaces has been mixed. On the one hand, I've encountered some very thoughtful, intelligent people in these spaces, and have been exposed to information and schools of thought that I never would have encountered had I just stuck to normie spaces, government education and legacy news. On the other hand, it's also been in these spaces that I've encountered some of the most mind numbingly retarded shit I've ever heard in my life. To make matters worse, the retarded shit tends to be shouted from the rooftops by belligerent, confrontational people with terrible grammar, who can't handle being told that they're wrong.
As far as "conspiracy theories" in general, I've found that many of these actually have a nugget of truth at the center. However, surrounding that center is a thick layer of ridiculous bullshit that only a moron would believe. Unfortunately the bullshit tends to attract a certain kind of moron, and these morons end up drowning out anyone who wants to have a serious conversation about the subject.
