The key to getting good at drawing is to keep practicing and not stopping.
If you do someting six gorillion times, you're bound to get decent at it.
Also, study the techniques and continue to try new things. The more you explore, the more you'll understand how to make better drawings. If you're not good at something, practice it until you understand it.

Really? I was going for sunset-themed colours, and I used MLPFIM background stallion(Because most main male equine characters in the show look like shit) screencaps as reference material for the eyes and face.

It's the aesthetic of the solid red with the violet and gold trimming. The Taoist cutie mark seals the theme too. Reminds me of some of the rugs my grandmother brought back from China (pic not related, but you get the feel).
