It was hot shit when it launched on steam awhile back.
>>5529No I'm gonna your mom your being mean :(((((
>>5530Downloaded it, I have to go to bed so I will probably wait until tomorrow to start actually playing. WTF is with all these warnings, between downloading it and opening the application it's warned me like six times that it's not for children or sensitive people. Now I'm really curious...
>>5533Exactly. It's not. But since you're on MLPOL, you'll be fine. If you're not fine, then I guess you're a faggot.
Agent Smith is best waifu.
welp I started playing, this is a bretty gud game so far. hasn't started getting fucked up yet but I'm hoping it does soon. I played through all the Higurashi games and I get the impression this is a similar sort of premise, an "it's cute and then suddenly everyone starts dying horribly" sort of game.
I gotta hand it to the developers. Not only are actual good endings, but through MOD content, they can keep this story going almost indefinitely, both in game and "in between/surrounding". This is a whole new level of storytelling for this genre.
>>5560>>5590>>5591I dont usually "play" Visual Novels. I think they have too little content too offer and to be entirely honest, DDLC is more like an semi-interactive anime movie than a game. the storytelling itself is something unusual for the genre that grabs you out of nowhere. I think the art is good, but some of the characters are pretty flat compared to others and the "animations" are simply terrible. also the first 2 hours of the game were pretty meh to the point where i have to say, if i didnt know what this game was or what would happen i would have probably never played it since it hides its meat under a significant amount of blandness. Cant speak much for the mods but i am surprised people are invested into this so much.
From what i hear the developer will release a new game next year, which may also be another untraditional visual novel and be loosely related to this game.
Also, Monika did nothing wrong and is best girl.
>>5592It's kind of a hard genre to get into, but once you get used to the format they can be pretty engaging if done right. I haven't played that many but I've managed to find some pretty good ones. You should look into the Higurashi When They Cry series and Kara No Shoujo.
Holy shit this fucking game fucked me up more than anything else in a while.
At first i loved the meta-humor and how familiar the characters seamed but then it fucking
Yeah i knew that one of them hung themselves but i wasnt ready. But that was fine i saw that tags played me well, a few to many memories and friends
I could have taken every thing If not for THAT BITCHMonikaaaaaaa.
I had made the mistake of using my own name in game, so the steam name twist worked except that my steam profile name is that of my tulpa. We both jumped
first time ive shed tears in a while
This game is not suitable for children
or those who are easily disturbed. This game is not
Sayori, I'm coming soon.
Was it me or all of the girls reminded of Fluttershy?
>>5614the character archetypes were fairly clear to decipher, if you still experienced all 4 of them as a monotype you may have personal problems.
Hi sorry to post this here, but im having problems uploading images. Could someone post this on /mlpol/. For some reason I cant. You can choose your own pic. Just copy/paste below.

>>5618You don't have to be so mean. It's the spectrum of red and pink in the Dokis' hair, plus Yuri's timid personality that made me feel that way.
>>5624I stand by my ethnic scolding. Hair colors dont equal fundamental character archetypes. If anything the general timid appeal is all but superficial in anime girls. My guess is, that this is more of a general asian theme of traditional gender roles where the female (at least appears to) be/is complicient to the male character and the viewer. The actual personality is a layer deeper.
But i'd lie if i said that Sayori and Nutsucky were well fleshed out. >>5625>ethnicWhat? Ethic*?
Don't be lewd!
Anon, all I said that they reminded me of 'Shy. Which is a rather deep connection since I'm a major Flutterfag. All it does is imply that
really like the series. However, the comparison is null and sentimental on my part. Nothing more. The characters are deeper than their archetypes when shown their neurosises and general interests even. The deeper the game goes, the deeper these characters are; then that is shattered with the confrontation of reality (or lack of) within the game. It's smart really. The characters are flat on purpose, yet alluring in the game's finer moments. A good feat from Salvato. I commend it, and anticipate for the bar to be raised the next hinted game. I've played Doki Doki to full completion. I'm certain every nook and cranny. The experience led me to a fanatical love almost akin to how I felt when I first watched MLP. And, that's refreshing! Really needed it after all the dread of the usual monotony. Some genuine horror.
>spoilerI agree. Funny, NUTsuki (my pet name) is my favourite. Still, I think it could have been alleviated with more screen time. There was some room and set-up for it. I think there's mods for the game. However, this is all anticipation for something bigger.
>>5627Wow..
Saving that for later. Here's to a new series with hopeful ambitions!
It just occurred to me that the game is probably in renpy because it's easy to use for modification.
>>5628>>5629https://sasoriharem.tumblr.com/archiveThis artist (

>>5635do you mean the right picture? no, thats a Pokemon. I am unsure if he drew any NGE art, but i would be surprised if he did not.
>>5636Ehehe, that was a joke. I knew it was that, honest. Anyways, I'll stop botherig you for now.
I'll do it later, Chickun. >>5634>>5636>Those dorsal finsCynthia's Garchomp is supposed to be female.
Well, time to give an unpopular opinion i guess..
So, i think doki doki is an amusing game, not really scary at any given point, it has some visual shock value but nothing actually scary.
Thing is, i think its being praised way more than it should, it looks good and the story is effective, but the meat of the game is all the 4th wall self aware restart game breaking stuff.
Don't get me wrong, i like the game and whitout doubt this stuff made it shine in comparsion to other common VN's, but i do hope this is just a taste of this developer's career, i do see that this could have been much more, but since no one was expecting it, it turned out great.
Just like this game about talking to skeletons, what was it, under tail?>>5627D-degenerate!
>>5641I'll agree about it not being scary
I honestly have no idea why people call it a horror game
I absolutely loved how it went about breaking the fourth wall by playing around with the files in the game folder all the way throughout the game along with all the other trippy shit going on in the background of the scenes randomly like seeing a picture on the wall of Sayori hanging when in the classroom and shit like that when you pay a lot of attention
Comparing it to Undermeme is a bit much
>>5641>>5642lets be honest here, if you are an adult or even a teen, this game is not really scary. that does however not mean its innocent.
it definitely has shock value. the suicide scenes of Sayori and Yuri (and the period after) are pretty radical. Its a game that comes in a sheeps clothing and makes it so much worse because you dont expect it if you go in blind. That, and all the constant mindfuckery can really grind down your gears. Its an innovative game as far as Visual Novels go and i hope the developer will be successful with his future projects. This was a promising tech demo...
>>5639I like Monika unironically. I literally only started playing this game because of her. I knew full well who she was and what she did.
Reminded me a lot of Tay AI in her own way, with a touch of Matrix. I actually went the extra mile to read all her face-to-face dialogue and even downloaded an animated background of her, although i never finished the game. Can't just delete her. Perhaps its her eyes. Green is my favourite color after all.
In case you guys arent aware there are a few mods for this and they are 11/10 worth the extra time.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DDLCMods/comments/7dpods/full_release_doki_doki_literature_club_110mo/This is believe is an official one where
you go back throught the whole game and fix everything after getting the good ending.Complete redraws the story and provides alot of new feels.
Sayori and Natsuki are both best girl>>5643It kind of reminds me of a gravity falls episode, now that i happened to stumb upon it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_1rJwVzVP8 Okay, so I hit what I thought was the end, then tried a few things and it looks like I'm able to keep going, but I think I've seen most of the "surprises" everyone talks about. As far as I can tell I got the "good" end, but it looks like it wants me to play some more, so who knows. I'll play around with it more over the next few days. Anyway, here's what I think of it I guess:
It's a clever idea, I'll say that much. That's kind of the problem I have with it, that it relies too much on being a clever twist on an old design that it forgets that the main reason people play games like this is they want to be immersed in a fictional world, and as soon as you break the 4th wall that stops being possible. I liked all the spoopy stuff that happened after you hit the first 'bad end', the way it would mess with the music and the size of sprites, rotate the background slowly, things like that, it really gave the game a weird edge. However as soon as I figured out WHY all that stuff was happening, I didn't enjoy it as much. I would have honestly preferred it if this game had been the kind of thing I was expecting, which was just an "it's a cute dating sim until suddenly oh noes the characters all have dark backstories and everyone keeps getting killed" kind of game. I wanted to go back and learn more about the other characters' stories and follow the different paths with them, but I'm fairly certain that would be a waste of time and the story just steers itself in the same direction regardless of what choices you make.
Also, this is the kind of trick you can only do effectively once. Now that it's been done, no other game will be able to do something like this again, but that probably won't stop developers from trying. Also also, while I will be curious to play future titles from this developer, I really hope they don't turn into another M. Night Shyamalan where they feel like they have to put a "tweest" into every title.
Oh, and on a technical note I haven't worked with it extensively enough to be 100% sure, but I've used RenPy a little, which is what I'm fairly certain this game was built with, and I don't think the "character" files you're supposed to find actually do anything. I think they're just files full of junk data, the program checks to see if they exist but they don't actually contain anything essential to the software, which makes the whole thing a little corny imo.
>>5651The character files are actually full of junk data, or rather hidden easter eggs.
>>5651100% agreed. Its not the sort of trick that can be done twice, and their next title will be expected to try and push boundaries, though I'll be certain to check it out when it does drop. The confusion, the "WTF?" factor is what made the experience so innovative, but now hearts have been broken. I'd played a couple visual novels in years past, but quit them cuz they're largely (story aside) the same sort of game. This one wasn't, but recreating the or a comparably gripping effect will be quite a challenge.
>>5651okay, just played the "epilogue", and
"deleting" the bonus CG as the credits roll was a nice touch These spam bots are getting good.
>>5644Ah I see you're a man of culture as well
