Frens, I just noticed that our Drawfag thread 404'd in July and we haven't had a draw thread for almost two months.

This is a thread for anything drawing related. Don't feel forced to limit yourself to this thread for this board though. If you have a thread or a post in mind that relates to drawing on the board but outside this thread, then post it.

Also, I have a request, which is why I went searching for the drawthread in the first place. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to doodle some quick cover art for a story I'm working on?

The title of the work is "Anon is a Jerk to Ponies." I'm basically taking a few greentexts I've written that revolve around the theme of Anon acting like a dick in Equestria, being mean to his waifu, etc, and adapting them into a collection of vignette stories. A couple of them are funny, a couple are serious and sad, a couple are somewhere in between.

Here is the idea I had for it: Anon is doing a smug walk down the road, kind of like in these sample pics, generally behaving like a childish ass. In the background are a few angry-looking mares, who are obviously the victims of his tomfoolery. Maybe one of them has a broken flower pot on her head, another one has a mustache drawn on her nose with pen, that sort of thing. Basically anything that involves Anon pulling immature pranks and mares getting annoyed with him for it.

I'm pretty much open to whatever anyone is willing to draw that more or less fits this theme, the only real requirement is that I'd like it to be vertically aligned (roughly the dimensions of a book cover), and preferably in color. If coloring is too much of a pain in the ass, I'm also willing to color it myself if someone just wants to do a line drawing.

Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to undertake this silly project for me. I will happily credit you for the art if you like, or you can remain anonymous; your choice.

I think it was two or three years since I've attempted to draw anything, and didn't use any reference. Every time I kinda try it reminds me why I don't actually try... lol
Maybe one day I'll have time to do lots of lines, but I think I'll stick to making soap

I felt like posting this video here. Saw it a while ago. I really like Bob as an artist. He is pleasant. Hope this can come to some use for some of u lurkers. ^^

Is learning photo realism, the way to becoming a true artist?

If you think "true art" has to be photorealistic, I suppose. I personally don't consider the degree of realism or stylization to be the most important criterion for ranking art, though.

No, I'm not saying that I'm thinking this. I'm just asking. A lot of times people judge your ability as an artist from who well you can capture reality but people also appriciate intresting abstraction.

So I guess I'm just pondering if one can focus soley on learning one of them. Ig, they sort of tie into each other. I also have heard that to really make intresting pieces of abstraction you should learn realism first but I don't know anything when it comes to this, I'm just thinking out loud.

My preview of art is about communicating something.
The work is about:
The Artist (You)
The Subject Matter (the artwork)
The Audience (a mirror to reflect on)
A tangential Subject Matter (what it says about something)
The Piece itself (about the artwork but not necessarily the content)
Biological and Psychological pleasures. (It looks pretty and aesthetically pleasing. Also how competently it's done.)

I think that art says something what makes a 'good' artist is whether they can talk using that strange language.
What makes a 'good' artwork depends on the audience (or desired communication).

Most art says something simple, "This is, it exists." Ect.

I do think that drawing realistically is probably a useful way to improve your drawing skills, since it's the best way to improve the various skills needed for art, (e.g. construction, perspective, composition).

There are objective measures by which an work can be said to be technically good or not, like the examples I listed above, but there can also be cases where I think one work of art is less technically impressive than another but prefer it, as a matter of taste or values or just because it makes me feel something more.

It's about what the artist has to say, they're thoughts and feelings of nature, people, etc. Photorealism, while an impressive skill, is often shallow and lacks imagination.

This is also why I don't think AI will ultimately replace human artists, even if it gets to the point where it's no longer blatantly obvious that something was done by AI.
