I would suggest that chaos/entropy/nature/most of the universe is the enemy of civilization and life. It's our job to not assist in the expansion of natural ubiquitous chaos. Ultimately we will lose. Yes. It makes you seek your inner strength to fight for your life and your freedom, it strengthens your self identity. If we forget the dark wanting to consume us, we relax and get lazy. Knowing the future is dark inspires us into action before the darkness forces us into unplanned emotional reactions. These emotional reactions are equally destructive because there was no time to consider consequences. That leads to the cycles I suspect.

Our brains do produce electric fields, we do seem to store mental information in the Earth's field. Our subconscious could be in high distress in brain dense locations. Add in isolation from nature too so there is no natural reset.
