Because, you're the one providing the information, so you need to cite your facts to prove that they exist and that you not pulling them out of your ass.

Search engines change their results for practically every single person, so telling them to "Google it" is a futile effort when they could put in the exact same search results you tell them to and get a completely different answer. That's in addition to the fact that search results do not account for sites that change addresses or go offline, which is why you should also go the extra mile and provide an archive, too.

It's true that having a few solid sources for your talking points is a pretty basic requirement. Even if you're not going around slapfighting with liberals online, it's good if you're trying to convince someone who's more open to what you're saying as well.
The real reason liberals so often throw out "muh source" though is because it's just a sleazy tactic to see if you have one on hand. If you don't, they think they can claim an easy victory up front. I think it's that simple.
