If you can note the artist or provide links to the artist that would be dandy.
I'm trying to develop an art style that is attractive and charming.
I would like to get your perspectives on the do's and don'ts of art styles. Speaking of don'ts feel free to also post styles that you dislike or aspects that you mislike to see in pony art and why.
(Pertaining to the image this style is neat though it isn't all to my liking.)
>>151350The more floof the better. Not too much floof, but keep it floofy.
I really like the styles of AnonTheAnon and HotDiggedyDemon, which are both very goofy and cartoonish. HotDiggedyDemon's style especially reminds me of Ren and Stimpy. But if you're not interested in making comedic content, that sort of style might not work for you.
I like art that remains true to the show but with some added depth, shading and features. Ponies should be somewhat anatomically correct but not too much so, as skinny legs push them into the uncanny valley.
I also don't like floof unless if it's to signify a messy coat. Floof indicates that pony hair is longer than is show-accurate. It also reminds me of furry artists who use it liberally.
It's hard to pin down but I'd go with any art style that resembles the classical arts.
>>151350Majority of my favorite horse-artists are fucking faggots.
Has helped my decline of interest in the show in general.
Oops, I meant to attach images as examples.
>>151350anything that isn't tumblresque or looks like it was done in MSpaint.
>>151350I personally enjoy Shinodage's art. I'm a pleb who can't into art critique, though, so the only thing I can really offer is that I think his style is freakin' adorable without straying too far from the show's original style.
>>151367In an ironic way its kind of cute, so it does not count. You must actually try for it to be good in order for it to be bad.
>>151366Shino's a good choice. Wouldn't be my top tier, but I enjoy it.
>>151367I mean like that one artstyle that's pretty much infected western shows at this point (ex. steven universe) or that somebody actually made in MSpaint thinking it was good.
>tldr>>151368 this.
>>151371i wonder if there is a drawfag out there actually going to make actual art out of this garbage. i took like maybe 2 minutes on it.
I like those boys' artstyles and I'm even trying to copy them.
>>151352this
>>151350Atryl is my all time favorite, by far.
atryl on tumblr (sfw)
atrylplus is his nsfw blog
>>151350Tend to like vector's clean look, though I'm not limited to liking only them.
>>151352Hate floof.
>neighborhood has a blackout a couple of minutes after I posted
>>151515Your opinion is shit. Floof is awesome.
>>151515I don't really like floof, either. It's usually messy looking and does not look like it belongs on a pony. The furry ear shit is also bad imo.
>>151355AnonTheAnons art style is rooted purely in the west, he took the shows style (which is very geometric) and made it reminiscent of the style we might have seen in the golden era of western animation. while not the most sexy style I do think he did a very good job at that?
HotDiggedyDemon style is also very western, he does a lot of caricature for comedic effect, again not the most sexy of styles I'm looking for something more along the lines of aesthetically pleasing, yet simple enough for a relative n00b.
Did you grow up watching a lot of Saturday cartoon, looney tunes, tom & jerry, the flintstones etc.?
>Ren and StimpyDid you watch that show as a kid, if so you'll find this interesting.
I think we are destroying the minds of America and that has been one of my lifelong ambitions - John Kricfalusi (creator of the Ren and Stimpy Show)
>>151534I like floof but not on the ears.
>>151358>I like art that remains true to the show Actually I set out to diverge from the show for several reasons. firstly, there is an immense sum of artwork done in the shows style, I don't think we need more, wouldn't you like something fresh?
In the second place It make me feel like a copycat.
In the third place, I think that the shows style only allow for so many expression, how about you?
>It's hard to pin down but I'd go with any art style that resembles the classical arts. Classical arts? As in the golden age of western animation, cartoon/comic arts, anything before the ~1960s, or do you mean medieval art?
>>151359Don't you fret that's what I'm here for.
Mind sharing who those horse-artists are?
Just to be clear are they literal fagots?
>>151361I don't have a issue with MSpaint, that's where most memes happen.
>anything that isn't tumblresqueI know dumblr artists have a particular visage to their art but is there not diversity among them (there is a tumblr dedicated to Aryanne)? What constitutes a tumbl(e)r-tastic style? are these tumpleresque? that middle one isn't to shabby, that was the safest drawing that I found, all of his other works are naughty. (why is it that most of the "decent" artists draw porn?)
>>151511He's good though mostly anthro and semi-anthro.
I put effort in my replies, Where are yours?
>>151787The guy draws with the precision of a machine.
I have several complaints though most of them pertain to stylistic choice so I'll withhold those. I prefer my ponies plump.
>>152119Sorry, I'm usually too drunk and tired to collect up all the images and artists.
>>152130What? No I just want the people that commented to respond to the questions that I asked them?
Just name a few artists of the top of your head.
Black strokes
modern art, but also show style
Dots, a lot of them
This guy is probably my favorite pony artist. Name is Kawaii Pony or some variant of that. I found his art at a convention. I've seen people try to draw poners in an anime style before and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This is probably the best execution of that idea that I've seen.
>>152237That was the weirdest raddish commercial I've ever seen.
>>151352>>151366>>151483>>151517>>151787I don't like ponies drawn to look like cats, they are small horses so they should look like such.
I tried to draw ponies but my style is just too jagged. But I'm my favorite artist.
>>152764You're your favorite artist yet you don't like that your style is to0 jagged.
Yes one does oft ponder.
You like no mans' rendition but thine own?
How swell (you) couldn't muster up the teeniest bit of will to answer even one of my questions?
Thanks friends. :_(
#Wasn't looking for a one way discussion.
>>151589>>151594>>151658>>152145How would one draw all those dots without ganning insane.
>>152898Thats just it, the dots are cuz insane
>>152764
>I'm my favorite artist. That sounds incredibly masturbatory.
>>152898They must use some kind of grid.
>>152898how can you call yourself an artist if you cant even draw dots for a background?
>>153071ahah. No you misunderstand. Why would one waist their time on such a matter? And besides my "?'s" intention was to determine how it was done, not that I don't know how. It was rather a statement about the pertaining.
>The dots were not drawnI'm not even sure if drawing is the proper term for art creation via a computers. Wouldn't digitizing be a more apt word?
A thank to those of you whom participated.
