“Dark Star... an organization like the Baltimare Branch of the State Security Administration requires very many ponies for its operations. And it requires cooperation with all sorts of other entities as well. Local law enforcement, the military, railway employees, customs... many ponies are involved. Many non-pony creatures as well. And many of them are of questionable trustworthiness. It’s like a house with many, many meters of old, rusty pipes. A leak is bound to spring up somewhere. And all it takes is one leak for the whole house to become flooded and moldy. All the same with the Black Hooves...”
At this point, a pony walks through the door. It’s none other than Dark Star’s senior partner in the SSA.
“Excellent timing, Miss Skies. Tell him how you find a leak”
The pony walks across the room, casually, and takes a seat next to Sea Breeze’s desk, facing towards Dark Star
“When you know there is a leak... you create a false report or other document that you know your enemies will want to disseminate. But you don’t give everyone exactly the same document. You create minor little spelling errors, typos, subtle differences between the documents, and give each person or group a different version of the document. So the one that is disseminated.. you’ll know who leaked it.”
Sea breeze continues, stopping Skies
“A few days ago, we released a document concerning the transfer of a high value individual to various sectors of the Baltimare SSA and associated agencies. But the document actually contained completely different information depending on who it was sent to. We were hoping that the release of multiple conflicting claims about where and how the very important pony would be sent would create the confusion that would allow the transfer to take place unmolested, or, even better, any communications by hostile actors could be intercepted, allowing us to tell who leaked the information. Unfortunately, that isn’t quite what happened... Each version of the document contained differing means by which the VIP would be transferred, in this case, taken at random from a train table. It appears one of the documents leaked out, and the train listed, a civilian passenger train, was attacked last night around 2:00 AM by partisans 10 kilometers east of the Castle of the Two Sisters. There was no way we could have sent police to protect every train... Anyways, we’ve identified a leak.”

“Tell me. Have you ever seen a tiger? In the wild, in one of those pits they have at zoos, or in a cage, perhaps?”
