Oh anon, immortal leader of one of the chosen civilizations, you and fellow anons must direct the peoples of <insert civ here> to full glory. You see there is computer terminal out there with one highly driven fellow who has decided to play a game. A game against himself. For days this fellow played, directing all the moves for each of the ten nations placed on the map of a civ5 game, taking the time and putting in the effort to fully reach the potential of each of the nations. But now he offers up one of these nations for you to direct. Will you lead that civilization to new heights, or will it fall and turn to sand in your hands.
Welcome, so I'm playing a civilization 5 game with the two major expansions. It's a hotseat game, meaning I'm controlling all the players in the game, and I've been doing it for awhile. I'm the kind of guy who used to play monopoly against himself when I was a child, I have a very active imagination and I thought, why not play a full civ game in which I play to the best of my ability for each nation? And that's what I've begun to do, I'm already 120 turns into the game which really translates to I've played 1,200 turns for each nation on the map(mostly consisting of figuring out the best resource collection tactics and moving units to explore the map, REAL fascinating guys realllll fascinating stuff). I'm hoping to play the game in a way that leads to some really fun political events, crusades/proxy wars/neo-imperialism/territory disputes, we could have religions based around the sun pony, and another religion based on the moon pony(get a catholic/orthodox religion divide in the mix), just think "Super Model UN". When it comes to wars/diplomacy I'm going to play each nation to the best of my ability's, so the game is going to be as fair as I possible can make it when it comes to how nations treat each other.
Final thing, this is going to be a long long long long game, I LOVE civilization, but even I get tired of playing 100's of turns to get a 10 turn farm to be built. So I'm moving at the pace of 10 turns a day(or 10 turns for each player, equaling 100 turns), so everyday at some consistent time I'll check in, give updates, look for the inputs that you have for the next moves or what to build. Think of it like a news site, a slowly evolving world you can come back and check in on daily.
Anyway's let me introduce you to the nations around the our little world. First up, we have the Zulu. Pretty good starting position, but wasn't really going for faith(I figure whatever you guys would want to create a religion around Celestia, so this wouldn't be the best civilization for that). I'm going to go though and present each civ with a map/social policy's/tech tree, feel free to ask for more information on any of these nations. More to come in the next post
Next we have Poland/Denmark
Denmark(tech tree)
Sweden/mongolia map
rest of Mongolia
the Incan's
The Aztecs
part of the Persia
>>417Civilization is unquestionably the greatest game series ever to exist in all of human history. I play it almost religiously. I used to lurk Civ Fanatics forums a lot, and enjoyed the play-through threads there. It's good to see one on mlpol. Personally I most prefer Civilization 4 for its infinite modifiability, have played Civ VI some, and have almost never played Civ V.
So... Um... What are the two expansions, what's our civilization, and what's our starting position?
Persia tech tree
Egypt
Map of Siam
>>422Well, our starting point is whatever you guys want. I a huge fan of civilization 4, they have some of the greatest mods out there that put the actual game to shame. But Civilization 5 has some great mechanics, I love the idea that the world get's divided into three ideological camps in the late game.
As for where we start, that's up to you anons to decide, any of these nations are good starting points. Once we pick a nation to play the game with, you guys can direct me on what to do turn from turn. Trust me, since this I'm playing all the other nations, it will be one hell of a wild ride, everything from religious genocide to trade pacts will happen in this game.
But yeah, so every day I'm going to be playing 10 turns(or 100 individual turns for each country). This is marathon speed on a huge map, continents plus.
http://www.strawpoll.me/13431343Here's a poll for your vote on which nation to play as
>>425Well...
Since mlpol is pretty Eurocentric, I'd say go with a European nation, like Poland, Sweden, or Denmark. I have very little experience with civilization 5 and don't feel like I can judge city placement at all. Are the mechanics essentially the same as in Civilization 6, minus the districts feature? Because otherwise I don't know. But it looks to me like Denmark is in an unenviable position so far as expansion opportunities go, Sweden has potential both on the coast to the east and inland to the West, and Poland, which has two cities, has what looks like three tiles on the coast to the south of Krakow which are a prime location for a new city
How is this going to work? Is it certain digits decide certain things, or does whoever posts first get to make the decisions?
>>428City placement is all about the resources the city can take in, which in this game each city can work up to 3 hex's away from the capital(I havn't played civilization 6 yet, I've been playing civilization 4 for years and just this year decided to make the leap into the future!... Or future relative to where I was)
>>429I have a lot of ideas on how to go about this, I think I might write it in a way that feels like all those /civ/ roleplaying threads you might find on 4chan. Kind of turn it into a story.
But fundamentally every day I'll be playing 10 turns(that's as much as I can handle because that means playing all then players Zulu->Poland->Denmark->Sweden->Mongolia->->-> == one real turn) So every day I figure some kind of consensus will have been made as to what to build next, what Tech to research, if were going to war, etc.
Think of it like a story that is always going on, you guys will be behind what trade deals we make, what wars we declare, how to handle all the other nations and there actions as time goes on.
I'm looking forward to this, this will be fun.
>>433Hahaha, it really is going to be fun, I'm going do some really crazy stuff with it. Like, having other more advanced nations force you to sell all of your strategic resources to them, or multiple countries calling for restriction of trade to <insert_militaristic_rogue_nation_here>
Anyways, Poland would be my choice, they are already going down the religious route and have two city's and good paths to growth. You guys could create a religion around KEK or something MLP related or just some meme in general if you want. Also, obviously you guys can rename the city's and units
The game is going to last up to 140ish days, so things you do now will be set the stage for future anons.
>>427>My first thoughtsZulu looks like good position for expansion north to the river.
Poland looks like a really good position to resources. They just need to expand and kill the tribe people.
Denmark is hard to tell how it will go they have potential, but also potential for big struggle.
Sweden looks like good position, but they only have free access to/from the desert like today so they will soon be sand people.
Mongolia has a good-ish position, but they are vulnerable, they will soon have to let people travel through their land.
Inca also have potential for good start Looks like they will be able to make a stronghold fairly soon.
Aztec is uncertain. They have fertile land for, but they might lack a few resources.
Persia is in a very good spot. But they have to go to war soon to expand or be locked in their peninsula.
Then there is Egypt could perhaps lock in another nation, but looks like that nation will have plenty of space unless Egypt takes it first. But looks like they are in a good position. Just need to get the fishing and expand west to get the mines.
Finally we have Siam. I love that they have Pony Vil, but they will struggle in the start. Jungle is a bitch for expansion before it is burned to the ground. But it also provides some cover.
>So who do I want to be...
Poland, Denmark, and Sweden, are the European civilizations in the game. Denamrk has a bad starting position, so I say Poland or Sweden.
If we go with Sweden, it appear Sweden is at the bottom of the bottom of the map, limiting expansion to the south, but also limiting attack. Expansion would be first to a city on the coast to the east, and then to a city on the west on a river tile. It looks like a desert to the North inhibits expansion slightly, and it can only go so far to the west. The northeast looks like it holds the most potential for expansion. But it's also unknown.
If we go with Poland, the next moves are obvious. A city to the south to take advantage of a good coastal position, and a city on the isthmus to cut off other civilizations in the south from settling in the area around the core. If that is accomplished, Poland will have an area to itself, or to only a few civilizations, and a clear idea of where other civilizations must attack from if they attack.
>>438Looking at the map again, it looks like Poland is at the top of the map. That means Poland can't expand far north at all, and also that it can't be attacked from there. I'm less sure about the area to the east.
>>435Poland has a very good starting point and would be a really fun nation to play.
But I want them to worship Ponies and have an ultimate goal of freeing all enslaved Poines (mislabeled as horses in the game) from their captivity in Pastures all over the world.
Here
>zulu
>poland
>denmark
>Sweden
>Mongola
>Inca
>Aztec
>Persia
>Egypt
>Siam
I've basically become obsessed with these maps given that I've been playing them everyday. The aztecs are uncertain, but they just completed the calendar tech meaning they could take advantage of all the stuff to there north. Sweden seems pretty isolated so far, but I'm guessing there must be something to my north. Denmark has room to expand, but Egypt is near by, Mongolia has the problem of sitting right between Persia and the rest of the world, so that would lead to conflict possibly. Incia and the Aztecs are right next door to each other, and the aztec's went down the Honer social tree, so that might end up in conflict some day. Eygpt is great, except it's surrounded by desert, they really need another settler, which might be my next goal for them. They have alot of gold though, so it's not all bad. Siam is surrounded by riches, gold/gems/citrus they kind of have it all and feel like one of the better starts.
>>443Oh, and Siam found the "ancient tech" of bronze working in a ruins 6 tiles away from their capital. They really have a good game going.
Right, and Poland I think is to the west of Mongolian/Persia
Once the real game get's going I'm not going to revile anything about what the other players are doing.
I usually play the turns when I wake up, after some coffee. So I'm going to use the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) when it comes to all time things related. Right now it's 7:56AM(UTC), so let's just say that when I wake up, probably around 6 or 7 PM(UTC) or about 11 to 10 hours from now I'll look at the staw poll and use that country to gather input as to the next moves we make as a nation. That's our next step in this, I figure a few more people might appear, and as time goes on more and more will notice and participate(optimism!) But whatever happens, I was planning to go foreword with the game so there is no fear of this project being canceled, unless a mod says otherwise. Things will be slow for a week or so, but the game will really start to pick up when we reach 300+ turns
I probably should have kept my mouth shut about Poland, because it's the winner of the straw poll and other might think I railroaded the decision. But no matter, Poland is a good choice and it's one of the civilizations that are moving down the religion route. I sense the sun pone cult will soon make it's entrance to the world stage. PRAISE THE SUN
Anyways, let me get the game up and I'll give you a quick run down about the poles.
Across the world the first real question of strategy was, to build a second city or to focus on growth? Poland had the advantage of having a decent production/food base so it went for the second city, and is now quickly catching up to having a 4 pop city. The two luxury resources around it's capital ensure that happiness won't be a problem for awhile. Having taken the piety social policy, the shrine in the second city seemed like a better priority then the granary. After finding a ruin that supplied the inintial warrior unit with spears, defense wasn't a problem and it allowed for the focus on the three building in the capital, yet now barbarians are starting to ramp up, and protecting the tile improvements calls for more military. Bronze working is being researched at the moment.
So, first off:
1.Should we change what each city is building
>>457>1.Should we change what each city is buildingHaving a few troops that can move with the expansion of territory protecting the outer borders are good so Warsaw should do what they do for the moment. Then Granary for expansion.
Krakow is to place I am a bit worried about. They need to exterminate the barbarian camp to the south and get some defence. But cultural expansion is good to have. Someone needs to weigh in, the barbarians look a bit too strong and bold for my liking... We better not give then any ideas that they are stronger than us in any way or form. And as long as they threaten Krakow, Krakow will stagnate in growth.
>>458I agree, taking out the barbarian heathens to the south is vital for the prosperity of Krakow, so keeping the warrior production choice in Warsaw is solid.
What about Krakow production, they could build a monument for more culture, or they could keep building the shrine for more faith. Given that it's only has one population, it really won't be a contributor to the kingdoms production at the moment.
So
Krakow should build:
1. Warrior unit
2. Shrine
3. Granary
4. Monument
I figure the stone age is going to be painfully slow, so I do plan to add more flavor. I'll come up with a story to go along with the game. But for now, how about naming the cities?
Give suggestions for what Krakow should be renamed, and in a few days we will change the name to whatever is most popular.
>>459Krakow might sadly have to switch to Warrior to deal with the barbarians so they don't become a long drawn out nuisance.
>>460Names for cities I have to think a bit about.. I might not be the most imaginative when it comes to this.
Alright, let me play a few turn then and report changes.
>>448The hell is UTC?
>>457Reeee... Poland won...
I've always felt like city spamming is a winning strategy. While Krakow is much to small to produce settlers any time soon, Warsaw should be allowed to grow to size 4, and when that size is reached, production should begin on a settler. It looks to me like barbarians are an issue. Krakow, or possibly both Krakow and Warsaw, should begin production of additional warrior units to take care of barbarians, and to escort future settlers. I'm less certain as to what should be done in terms of buildings
>>463>the hell is UTCI had to pick a timezone to coordinate when I would be here.
https://www.timeanddate.com/time/aboututc.htmlSettle spam definitely could work.
>>461We could name it ponyville, I'm working on the story for the game and will start adding character lore tomorrow or so. Something Something, anon ends up becoming an immortal leader somehow and has to live though 100's and 100 of years directing his followers to do basic things, like building a shrine. #stoneageproblems
Good news from Warsaw! The Farm has been finished and it's adding to the speed of growth in the capital city! Thoughts on what the workers should do next? Also, the brave spear men have defeated the barbs roaming around Krakow and are currently celebrating in the streets while they recover for there next mission.
We do have Trapping, so we could improve the ivory or the fur.
>>465What fur? All I see is three Ivory resources. I don't really know what technologies are required for the Civ 5 terrain improvements, so I'm not sure what all of the possibilities are
>>466To the east of Warsaw there is a fur luxury resource. Here is a guide written in 2010, I don't know off the top of my head how tile improvements effect resources, so maybe this could help.
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/tiles-resources-and-improvements-a-guide-to-explaining-yields.382196/As for the tech to build the improvements, we currently have the ability to improve all the current resources around the two cities(I'll let you guys know about the other tech needed as it becomes relevant)
Right now we can create
Farms for more food
Mines for more production
Camps to collect the ivory and furs
pastures to collect horse/cattle/sheep
So, outside of Krakow there is a horse resource we could go and improve, I think it would turn it into a 3 hammer/ 1 food tile, and by the time the city grows to two pops, it would be ready. That way we don't have to sacrifice food for production.
Here
We should use the worker to:
1. improve a luxury resource for more global happiness
1.a Go after whatever will make us more gold/food
1.b Go after whatever will make us more production/gold
2. Use the worker to improve resources around Krakow
2.a Food focus
2.b production focus(build up the horse first before the mine on the hill because the horse give food)
>>4641. build a farm around warsaw for more food
2. build a camp for ivory(not sure what it gives in terms of hammer/food/gold)
3. build a camp for fur(no idea hammer/food/gold)
4. build a pasture around the horse in Krakow(3 hammers/ 1 food)
5. write in
>>468For the time being farming and road between the two cities is most important. Luxuries count for nothing if cities aren't connected. Horses in the start are most useful when you get horsemen in my opinion, so it can wait.
>>470So, should we build a farm next to the other farm around Warsaw?
>>471I think just below the horses is best position at this moment.
>>472So that it's protected by the mountains? I see, good thinking
Alright, I'm going to play another 3 or 4 turns and return.
New decisions, what will Warsaw build next and where will the new unit be stationed(I'm fairly confident that the spear men can handle the barbarian camp on it's own)
>>477Honestly the warrior unit could go anywhere, input on the next thing Warsaw builds is an important decision. Bronze working is going to be finished soon, so no use in creating another warrior if it's going to be obsolete when it finishes.
>>477I would send the Warriors as backup towards the barbarians, you can have an unfortunate "dice roll". Then I would build a granary in Warsaw for rapid growth.
>>479My bad... Build Settler or Worker
>>480The city is about to grow, so a settler after that? And when bronze working is finished, we can make more spear men, so maybe grow city/build spear men/ build settler?
>>481We could create a scout while we wait for the city to grow(I forget if scouts cost maintenance)
>>481If you get to take out the Barbarians I think you can forego military strength a little while.
>>482I think scouts live of the land, so they are free maintenance. I was also thinking that Scout might be an goo intermediate project while we wait for growth.
Sent form the higher ups of Warsaw, the warriors were able to take down the barbarian camp, they faced an uphill battle(in which, the camp was literally up a hill) but there was victory to be had.
And that's it, we did it, ten turns. I don't think it will take this long every day, and I'll try to make it less of a dull experience with some story element in the future. But yeah, day one down, deep deep stone age politics(meaning there isn't any politics).
So same time tomorrow, at 6 or 7 Coordinated Universal Time we will continue the next 10 turns. In the mean time, looking for new city for Krakow. That's all for now then
>>486Nice looking forward to tomorrow
>>487Awesome! The game is pretty slow right now, but I promise it will get better as the days go by. It's just the beginning of civ5 can be really slow, especially since I'm playing marathon mode(but I play marathon mode because then each era lasts longer and everything seems more grand).
Oh man, never walk miles to eat at a restaurant when it in turn means you need to walk back home after said restaurant meal. I feel sick.
We will be starting the game shortly, in the mean time if anyone has names for Krakow, do share. I'm thinking the spear man unit and the warrior can return to Warsaw to protect all the farms/pasture since Krakow currently has no tile improvements that need to be defended.
The production queue for Warsaw is as follows:
finish scout -> build spear man(when bronze working is finished) -> build settler. Feel free to give input if you have another idea in mind. Playing ten turns a day means that the worker building the farm next to Warsaw will just keep on doing that for today. Another day in the stone age where the biggest problems are deciding where to send new settlers and what tiles to improve.
A party of expert survivalists have been gathered in the center of town, ready to take on the challenges of venturing into the unknown for our still very young society. The question is, which direction should they be sent, the east where old maps indicate a vast desert lies, or to the unknown west.
The city of Warsaw has also seen some growth. In the mean time, what tiles should the city work? The economy is stagnate with zero income. If we worked on gathering some cash, we could buy a tile for Krakow, there is a cattle tile to the east of Krakow that would speed up growth.
>>495Oh, and a new social policy can be adopted.
I know alot of these early game decisions really aren't that grand in scope or compelling, so if no input is given then I'll keep the game moving. I know this game well enough to make some good choices.
I'll continue playing a few more turns. For any one watching this thread and wondering why it's so slow, it's because I'm not playing a single player game, I'm playing all the nations on the map(to the best of my ability's and as fair as possible) the pro's are that latter game is going to be full of political drama that the AI wouldn't be able to do, the con's is that it takes a long time for me to play even a few turns in game.
Example: me playing 3 turns means playing 30 turns for each nation on the map. I know I'm beating a dead horse at this point but I say this because this game will get better as time goes on, it's just going to take a week or so to get to the better parts.
The two military units have taken up posts protecting the northern side of the kingdom, a decree from Warsaw pushed for the settlement of the cattle tile to the east of Krakow, to compensate the loss of wealth, Warsaw went for a gold production focus. The celebration for the scouts was quick, and by morning the survivalists headed west to chart out unknown lands. They found another barbarian settlement, which has raised concern that Krakow would once more be under threat. Warsaw, after mastering the art of utilizing bronze metals have started working on another spear man. Happyness is reaching a worrying low throughout the empire, but nobles reassured the public that a new wind of trade and luxury riches would soon be improved for all the citizens to enjoy(ivory or fur next to Warsaw is now the next improvement I'm thinking of building after the farm). Another thing I forgot to mention is that we took the goddess of the hunt, meaning all those elephants will give us more food along with gold.(this was before I opened the game to the public)
The next big decision is what tech to go for next. But there is only one more turn to play, so there shouldn't be anything else to report on today. So Same time tomorrow, 6 or 7 PM UTC.
>>498Sorry I was late to the fun today.
I think expansion to the west and add two cities at north ans south edges of desert, but a perhaps one tile away from desert. Bot both coastal cities. But this expansion could wait. I just think that desert will/could give oil and other good shit later on.
The barbarians needs to be eradicated as it is fertile land and we ant it. There is so much land we want at the moment. Poland is spoiled for choice. So first expansion I think should be a coastal city south of Krakow ans Warsaw connecting the influence… But I am always unsure as there is so many places I want to take.
>>501We must take all the lands! Kek, we really are blessed with many options for good city placements, after Warsaw finishes the spear man unit we can build another settler and pick out a good spot for our third city. And of course, once more our solders will have to clear out the uncivilized scum to the west of Krakow, but I'm kind of nervous to send the military right now, it would leave the improved tiles around Warsaw valuable to random barbarian attacks, even if I leftold one unit and sent the other it wouldn't be enough to defend all the tiles
The desert will probably be a gold mine when it comes to oil, but that's so far off right now. Bronze working was just finished last turn so tomorrow I'll give an update on if there is iron nearby, which would be vital to claim with a city.
Alright, it's time. I'll be starting up the game here in a second. First major decision is what tech to start researching first, writing might be a good pick.
>>505>First major decision is what tech to start researching firstAnimal husbandry, obviously.
Idk though, desu. Wait until someone who knows what they're doing comes along.
Here are the updated maps, and lucks on our side as an iron resource is nearby Krakow(namesubjecttochange).
I have two plans for Warsaw, we could:
1. Save up some money, and slowly build up the spear man unit.
2. Go full on production mode and rush the spear man in 16 turns.
Our happiness is at zero so growing the city's would lead to disaster, so we are timing our city growth to the improvement of the fur/elephant tiles. With that in mind, the Shrine production in Krakow is locked in( should be finished by the end of today).
>>506I haven't even started creating the story lore yet, but we already have a pasture for horse's north of Warsaw, kek would that mean ponies are enslaving other ponies? Or are pastures like, little towns outside of major city's, so many questions.
The farm was finished, and now the workers are being sent to improve either the Fur or the Ivory to gain some more happiness. To the Far East, our scouts have found Mongolia! It's happening!... But not really as the tribe met us with indifference, such is life in the deep stone age. Still though, this an important.
So since I'm playing all nations on the map, anything any kind of trade deals you want to make, or any kind of trade deals they(I) want to make can be talked out here.
Final thing, I started working on writing for now as a place holder so that I could keep playing out turns, feel free to give input on what tech you would like to have worked on, and I can change it to that.
A barbarian was spotted to the north of Krakow. The spear man can protect all the tiles around Warsaw so the warrior was dispatched to find out if a new barbarian camp had formed.
The barbarian was killed off by the city's ranged attack, and the scouts have located where they may have come from. The shrine in Krakow was finished... And the economy get's a little worse(Where are the tributes? Come support your pony elder gods, give money today), and faith accumulation speeds up nicely. Krakow needs a new build order, so if you have suggestions let me know.
Finally, something we haven't seen in a while, a ruin! Will it give us advanced tech that will put us ahead? Will the Mongolians come foreword with some kind trade deal, or any diplomacy for that matter?
Find out all this and more on the next installment of DRAGON BAL-, ahem, I mean more turns tomorrow, same time as always, 6 or 7 PM UTC. That's all for today, as for the lore and story of anon as he directs Poland, it's still a work in progress.
>>510Sorry for being late to the game again.
I think Krakow need to get a granary started at some point, and we need to move the worker from Warsaw to Krakow to improve the tiles there. Then when it is time Warsaw can build a new worker.
>>511The granary seems like the best build option for Krakow at the moment, and once the worker is done with improving the camp for the fur, it could be moved over there to improve either the horses or the iron(probably the horse's so that we don't have to cut down the forest and use up more turns then we need. We need to be careful with how we grow our city's, if we get a third city into the mix we might have a happiness shortage so keeping some city's at a lower population level(like 3) might be a good strategy.
I take that back, I forgot about circus, yeah we have plenty of happiness options. Right, so a granary for Krakow foe more food, and the worker can improve a tile around Krakow after the camp is finished. And when the spear man is finished in Warsaw, we can getalk a settler
>>513Sounds like a good plan.
Although... Speaking as Mongolia, they wouldn't want us to forward settle on them, you can see from the maps posted earlier in the thread just what kind of situation Mongolia is in right now, stuck in between Persia and Poland might make them anxious.
A new day, another ten turns. Welcome back, yesterday we found a ruin, some uncivilized scum to our east, and two barbarian camps. Today we start working on a granary in Krakow and keep working on the spear man in Warsaw.
A quick run down on Mongolia, they don't have any luxury resources to trade with us, and both of us are relatively broke, so there are no worthwhile trade deals to be brokered between our community's.
>accept embassy
>accept embassy
>accept embassy
>accept embassy
>accept embassy... With the exchange of one gold per turn for the next 100 turns?
#WorstAiProposals
We will be starting shortly
Let's start with the bad news, the ruins didn't give us gold or tech or even faith, it gave us culture, 20 turns worth, yet still not all that valuable compared to getting free tech.
The good news is that the workers will be done with the camp in 14 turns, just in time to improve our happiness so that both Warsaw and Krakow can grow a population without sending us into negative happiness.
Otherwise, not that much to report, the spear man is almost finished in Warsaw, so the next thing to produce is a settler, and while the settler is being built, we can take some time to try to gain some more wealth as our coffers are getting dangerously low.
>>522Shame with the ruins being more or less without value.
But I think if we get Krakow improved a bit with farms etc. it will fare well. We can also place a city in the most fertile land to the west of Warsaw and try to make it a megacity with plenty of food and turn it into a science hub. There is also a good fishing spot north-west of Warsaw (between the forests) that potentially could be a good spot for a city at one point. But there is always so many places one could place a city and make it thrive.
More exploration towards Mongolian is completed, and Warsaw begins(*) to work on a settler(the screenshot is a wrong though, I changed production to a spear man unit so that the city could finish growing to size 5, then it will resume working on creating a settler.
>>523I think I see where you mean, there is a good spot to collect multiple food resources to the north west.
Like yesterday, not much is going on. The camp to collect fur is almost done, so happiness will increase, and then both the cities are going to grow a population. A settler will be built in Warsaw after this growth. A spear man unit is making the long trek to take on the barbarian camp to the south/east of Krakow.
The scouts have hit a wall, if they go past Mongolians Capital, they risk becoming stuck(but there are maps(albeit outdated) earlier in the thread that show what lies beyond, so they will turn around and head back, to explore the desert next to the west next.
Annnd that's it for today, the stage is slowly being set for the grand political drama that will take place in the future. But for now, turn by turn, time marches foreword. Same time tomorrow, 6-7 PM UTC(or at least that's when I start playing turns and actively check the thread)
>>524With the city to the north west I was more thinking of making it a coastal city, but I sort of like coastal cities later in the game. Driving around battleships and bombarding enemy cities and units from the sea is fun.
>>526By time we get to battleships we will definitely have coastal city's, and yeah, late game wars are going to be intense. We will probably have a settler in 3-4 days, so there is still time to decide the best placement for our third city. If you know how to use MSpaint or some kind of equivalent where you can edit the photo, you could show me some of the places you think would be good to settle.
Here are some good options to the west of Warsaw, the numbered tiles are the city placements
>>527Not sure, there is always a bit of a gamble where you place the cities. It is ups and down for every spot...
But I'll do some more thinking.
>>528>Here are some good options to the west of Warsaw, the numbered tiles are where the third city might go.fixed
>>529The port city looks good, the second option(which could be our forth city in the future, if we go with the coast city first) would do better a few tiles down
>>531Yes you are right, placing it on a mountain would give defensive bonus and we "get rid" of an unproductive spot. I just tried to place it on a spot giving the most farmland and food production. This way try to make the city grow fast and hopefully be a productive city science wise and in other production due to population. Or a fast producer of settlers.
And if we wanted to go east words(though that might upset Mongolia(deeper into the subconscious mind((((itwould)))))) here are my intial thoughts on good city placements
Yeah, kind of worrying that the west is "flat land", terrain wise enemy armys can move pretty fast to our west, taking a choke point where the desert meets the grass lands would help
>>534The placements look good. I only wonder if we will be able to take the land culture wise before the Mongolians. I think a sure frontline towards the Mongolians will be something like this. But the more land we can take from them the better.
>>536Looks good, if we want to establish that line we should settle east first.
>>536>>537I have thought a bit more. The northern city is a good placement. I just forgot for a moment that Fort Saber is going to be leveled with the earth later in the game and thus is going to be gone. At that stage the placement and access to resources will be good. Perhaps it should be one tile to the east so we grab all the resources in one go, and don't have to culturally fight too hard for them.
>>538I see what you mean, so should that be were our third city should be founded? It's a very good spot strategically and in terms of resources
>>539I think so, better to take it quickly before their city is able to expand culturally. But man it is always a "big" decision placing a city. Perhaps one step to the east so it still is connected to the river. This for waterpower and free road a potential city at the end of the river near the oasis.
>>540I know the feeling, I have 4 other players who have/working on settlers right now, trying to find the best possible spots for all of them is a slow process. I made fort Saber to take the resources that our city is about to "steal", kek, If we go through with this our relationship with Mongolia will be cemented in stone as our future enemy, non the less, it's definitely a good move
>>541If it only had been an AI and not you playing the best you can we could just build them in say fuck no to open borders and laugh.
>>542Lol, just goes to show how bad the AI can be. By the way, "the best I can play" means no meta play, so if we decide to go to war with Mongolia or anyone else, I don't use that knowledge(so I can't know if and what other players plans are) But obviously such a city placement would annoy Mongolia. But yeah, no meta to the best that I can possibly do no meta, even military unit placement, I just play every player from what they and they alone know.
>>542Oh right, were also about to finish writing, what tech should we go for next (this pic is still accurate to our situation)
>>505
>>544>>545We need Sailing for our coastal cities, but that is a bit later. So I am leaning towards Archery to get to Roads to connect the cities or Masonry before Sailing.
I think Archery is perhaps the way to go as we need roads to expand. But frankly we need it all.
Not sure about this strategy, but we could try to jump on Iron working to get an tough army and go to war in early stages, but can quickly backfire.
I think we say go for Archery -> The Wheel -> Horseback Riding as we have lots of horses/ponies on our side and can get a strong army that way.
But this is just my thought, I am a bit unsure what best way is. It will vary on what we do next, for coastal cities we need Sailing so they don't starve.
But then again those free techs on fist to research Optics or perhaps Engeneering is more safe/sure route is also good incentive.
>>546I like the idea of going for archery next as well, then the wheel so that we can go for horse back riding as well as mathematics
Hmm, let's see, the workers should finish the camp today, our spear unit should be able to take out the first barb camp south/east of Krakow and both city's will gain another population(then Warsaw will work on a new settler). Seems about right, and Archery will be our next technological ambition of the nation!... So, pretty average day I would say
Will be starting shortly(or you know, within a hour screenshots and updates), feel free to give any suggestions on strategy.
My computer crashed so I had to do many turns over again. The update is going to run really late this time around, I've been deciding multiple city placements, building orders, along with dealing with barbarian shenanigans ruining my life.
>>550No worries, I was way late to the game today. Your plan looks good by the way.
Looking forward to tomorrow, will try to be more vigilant then.
I've been busy for a while. How goes Poland?
Life abducted me for a few days, but I'm finally back, so tomorrow we will play a serious game of catch up.
So tomorrow at 5 UTC I'll start, sorry for vanishing like that. All day tomorrow the plan is to get to turn 210.
Alright, sorry for vanishing like that. Today will make up for it all, in what hopefully(but most likely will not) be a one time only marathon session to make up for lost turns. All day, that's the plan, about 16 hours. Stay tuned
>>622What is the current state of affairs?
>>622Woah... We can take it slower if you like. No need to overwork yourself. A few more days in what is going to be a month(s) long game won't be noticed.
Right, starting with the stuff that took place last time that I didn't document. The one of the two barbarian camps was wiped out, and the camp to collect fur was finished(and it saved the economy from collapsing), with the 4 extra points of happiness, both city's grew one population. All around, good things.
The worker is about to be escorted over to krakow to build a farm(I think), any ideas on what the worker should build? And Warsaw is going to build a settler(while also gathering some gold before shifting gears to go full production)
>>626Nah, it's fine I feel motivated to do this today, and since we are still in the stone age, turns don't take to much time(but they are starting to, I've been thinking over the best places for settlers for the other nations, and picking tech/tile improvements/ city growth strategy's/ military expansion, pretend I'm a slow computer, my processing speed for turns will only get slower and slower as time goes on, haha)
I'll try to update every 45 minutes to 1 hour(so if you have a phone, just check in every hour to see what's going on)
>>629Will try to do. I might become absent at one point due to pressing matters of sleep. But just keep going I trust you will kill on sight, and do the right stuff.
>>631The nation of Poland is in good hands, weather it's anons directing it or me going into auto pilot mode, I can manifest the will and ideas though my choices.
I do have something I want input on though, the world is become a very dangerous place(spear man barbarians have started to attack my other nations) In light of that, should we go for finishing the spear man in Warsaw before making another settler? I feel like we need another military unit now, it will only take 25 turns to get a settler, and seven more to build the spear man, I think it's worth it. Everyone agree?
>>628>We share our part of the continent with another civilizationREEEEEEE
Well, I see that Warsaw is going to reach size 5 in a single turn. It's time to spam cities. There are good city placement location to the West and South. And now I see there are good locations to the East, by the river that feeds into the lake, as well as on the coast
>>633What exactly is the size of the military now? A unit will be needed to escort new settlers, and possibly to protect improvements, but I'd prefer to prioritize settlers
>>635Here are some good maps, and we brainstormed a few days ago about some good spots, take a look at:
>>528>>529>>531>>534>>536These plans look good?
>>636As for our military, one warrior, one spear man, and a scout... It's uhh, pertty grand haha
The worker was moved over to Krakow, I think the idea was to build a farm. I'm open to building something else though.
The stuff of nightmares drifted out of the fog
>there evolving!
Somewhere out there, a barbarian thought to himself, why not use a pointy stick instead of club/hammers? And thus fear spread by rumor, from town to town all the way until our group of survivalist scouts sent a runner to Krakow confirming our fears.
Other then that, work on a farm started next to Krakow, and Warsaw became resolute in it's effort to expand the military.
Going to take a small break to get some food, next post in about 2 hours or less
The economy is doing excellent, and Warsaw is almost done with the spear man militia, and which after it will begin working on a settler. A farm begins to be built east of Krakow, and the spear man that killed off the barbarian camp to the south east starts heading north.
The settler production begins finally, and for four extra turns, we get not lose 45 coins while building. Near Krakow, the rag tag scouts tell tales to the the out bound spear man militia of how the barbarians had savagely attacked them with spears.
so one spearman to escort a settler?
>>646>we get to *not lose 45 coinsbasically the economy is fixed
>>647That's the plan, we could build another spear man maybe even in Krakow. Krakow will get more production if we improve the horses or iron after the farm is finished
Our spear man get ready to take out the camp to the north east, and the scout party has almost recovered. Archery is finished and we need another tech choice.
>>650Oh and the culture boarders of Mongolia expanded
>>650Masonry. Maybe the wheel
>>652If we research the wheel we could start building a water mill in Warsaw right when the settler's done. Good for growth but if Mongolia is a more imminent threat we should just go Masonry for quicker composite bowmen.
I vote masonry.
>>652>>658I like masonry as well, and the wheel is a great choice after. Kind of taking a break, but I'll get in a few more turns before the end of the day.
Tomorrow we will get back to the normal schedule of 10 turns a day. I forgot how quickly it adds up.
A new day dawns, our spear man units camp outside the barbarian scourge. Warsaw deemed it necessary to send two units for the fear that the barbarian spear man would be near by, and yet the unit was no where to be found.
The nation started to work on the secrets of masonry, and the settler is due to be built in 20 more turns.
>>665Was the encampment to the south of Krakow destroyed?
>>666>waifu stealing == SIN confirmednice get, we cleaned out the camp to the south yesterday, so after we steam roll the northern site, Krakow will be safe again
Our soldiers head home to recover, and our scouts head west towards the deserts.
Just when we thought the barbarians where taken care of, a runner from the scout troop returns telling of yet another camp to the west of Warsaw. The rumors spread though the capital at first instilling worry, but an young militia officer who was home from the spear unit stationed in the northern sheep pasture had a few to many to drink and gave an rousing speech, telling about the braveness of our military, about how our troops have fought many barbarianism out there in the untamed lands to the east of Krakow, and how we will always triumph over those savages. Three cheers!
>>669Do we have an extra spearman? It may be worth just watching the encampment (if one spearman isn't sufficient to take it out) and guarding the improvements around Warsaw with a single spearman, while another escorts a settler
Our scouts reach the entrance to the desert, but they need a direction to travel, should they go south or west?
And so another day goes by, another 10 turns. Across the world all nations now have two city's or more, where entering the middle ancient era, more production choices, more tiles, income and more soldiers. The future is bright.
Same time tomorrow, 6 or 7 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
>>670We have three spearman, so after they finish healing in krakow, we can station one in Warsaw and send one out to take care of the rat den. Thankfully it's only a brute barbarian, we really have been lucky, my other nations have been running into more and more spear man barbs which are a pain to take out.
>>671South. It is closer to our existing cites as it is on the same coast as we will hopefully have new cities.
What is that in real time (EST)?
>>672Sounds like we have a sufficient military for expansion
>>673It's 5 hours behind UTC, so that would be 1PM or 2PM EST
>>673Our military is pretty good with three spear man, after the next settler I think another spear man should be made, or Krakow could make it after the granary.
>>675Why would we need a fourth spearman?
>>676For the next city I suppose, it's just I rather have two spear man guarding Warsaw because of all the improvements. But it's not set in stone, we could go straight for another settler(we might have to wait to use so that stay above 0 happiness, but it's better to have a settler then not) The settler should be done in two days, so we can figure it out then.
Wow, after today we will be 2/15 of the way though the game. I don't often play civilization 5(played way more civilization 4), so I don't know how long this period of extreme slowness will last, but at least their will be 100's of turns in which the politics/wars/religion aspect will be far more relevant then it is in the early game. One day all the good land will be taken up and nations will have multiple city's. It's going to be incredible! Though I'm guessing that's a few weeks away from now.
Anyways, going to start playing, be back in 40 minutes or so I think. The scout is going to go south and the new barbarian camp will be dealt with soon. The farm east of Krakow should be finished today, so if you guys have input on what next to build with our worker let me know.
The statue of Zeus was built in a far away land. Our scouts found more barbarians in the desert and our workers complete the farm. Not all that much happening on this side of the world, thankfully no barbarian spear man have come out of the fog. I'm thinking building a mine on the hill next to Krakow would be great, Krakow has all the food it needs for now, what it lacks is production, and the mine would be a quick solution, where improving the iron would require cutting down the forest. But since the Granary is almost done, cutting down the forest would give a good boost to production for whatever we build next, so it might be a good strategy.
I'm going to be using a new method for when I produce updates, instead of sitting down and doing ten solid turns which is a little overwhelming, I'm going to keep a rate of 1 turn per 2.5 hours, meaning 9.6 turns in 24 hours, then I'll do the last .4 turn before the period of time ends.
Still 10 turns a day, just spaced out, so if I play 2 turns that covers 4 hours. This way I can take my time with each turn, and not feel overwhelmed. The way I have been doing makes it so that I play for nearly 2 to 3 hours straight to try to get ten turns in(or 100 small turns for all the nations).
The downside is that I'm not going to be consistent as to when I'm playing the game, I may do some turns in a few hours, then vanish for 8 or 9 hours and suddenly come back and play a few more turns. Inconvenient I know, but it makes it easier to take on this behemoth of a task that I still very much want to do.
So I've marked this moment as the beginning, every 24 hours from this point on, I'll play though 10 turns and keep you guys updated. But when those updates come is going to be sporadic and unorganized at best, I'll still be here reading the thread though my phone or when I sit down at my computer(I'll check the thread every 3 or 4 hours).
Hopefully this is the last adjustment to the scheduled for at least a few weeks, If I can't keep this scheduled then I don't think I have what it takes to play though the game the way I was hoping to do for the board.
>>707Um... Okay
>>681My intuition says to save the forest for a wonder. But I'm not very familiar with Civ 5
>>708Then maybe a pasture for the horse resource, we don't need iron right now and the mine would only give us a 3 hammer tile while the pasture for the horses will give three hammers and one food.
>>707Take it in your own time anon, and don't overwork yourself. Remember this is suppose to be fun for you and not a choir. So I say you are more than allowed to be lax on number of turns per day.
>>708We will probably build a mine there anyway at one stage so no reason to wait. Fuck the forest and make the mountain into an iron mine.
>>709That is a very good point. Make houses for the ponies first.
>and sorry for having been absent not giving input on gameplan
>>710>Remember this is suppose to be fun for you and not a choirExactly, I do like what this game is becoming, and I can see it's just going to get better and better as time goes on. But the turns are taking a lot longer then they where back at when I was at 100 turns, having multiple city's,barbarians, settler placements and build choices is becoming a bit much to keep track in my head, and I want to make the best choices for each player.
There are some pros to this new system, the time I give the community to decide on a choice is going to be a lot longer, before I would sit and wait for anyone to give input for at least 30 minutes, then if no one had input then I would choose whatever I thought was best. So now you guys don't need to be here at a specific time for your voices to be heard, you can post whenever is convenient(just don't expect a response right away)
>>710>and sorry for having been absent not giving input on gameplanNo need to apologize, let me apologize for hiding from my own project that I said I wanted to do and not keeping you guys in the loop about how it was quickly becoming to overwhelming for me to continue in the way I said I would.
>>711No need for you to apologize either. Just find a tempo you are comfortable with and feel free to take breaks or change the pace any time you want.
>>712>Just find a tempo you are comfortable with and feel free to take breaks or change the pace any time you want.10 turns a day was a nice tempo in the past, before I brought the game to this board I was playing the way I'm going to be playing now, a few turns in the morning, a few turns at night, and keeping a pace of 8 or 10 turns a day was the average. For now I want to see if I can at least keep this pace of 10 turns a day, the latter eras might become even slower(especially when big wars start, it will take a lot of time to plan military unit actions), but for now at least 10 turns a day should be slow enough to enjoy the game while being consistent.
>>713>several days since last updateI think it's about time to decide on a new city placement. Also I agree with horses being pastured, and then the Iron mine being developed next after that.
Whatever happened to OP? I wanted to see this game play out
>>823It's the stone age blues, the world is so primitive that deciding were that third city will go in relation to other nations is the most exciting political event in the game at the moment(which, is actually kinda of exciting, yet still not nearly as thrilling as the later game stuff; crusades/trade pacts/ <insert_modern_day_political_event_here>)
Also school/work has made time go by faster then I like. It really doesn't even feel like that much tI'm has passed, right?-
>1 month ago, my last post was back in July-gah, wow time flys.
I love the project I have, even if I didn't complete the game here on mlpol, the save file is sitting there, compelling me to pick it up again(were already almost 200 full turns in, which is awesome, and even I'd I haven't played it, the game has already been eched into my mind, the city placements, the civilization, who took what social policy's, etc.)
Anyways, the idea if completing ten turns a day really should be easy enough for me, and because it'seems ""easy"" enough, I can't go lower then that turn amount because the game is going to last multiple months already, going any slower wouldn'the be worth it.
Anyways, putting ALL of that aside, I am the one who said this project was possible and decided to create a thread and say that I could do this for the fun of the community and myself(I still believe in this). But I basically failed the statements above, and the last thing I want to do is have vanishing episodes(too many fanfiction authors have done this to storys I like, sometimes updating a chapter of the story 4 months later, which now I understand more then ever how someone could just "lose" track of time)
>ramblings laterSo, I don't really know what to do, the only way I can move the project forward is by actually playing the game, but now you anons know the full extent of my attention span, I may not be the guy for this project, yet I definitely wish I could be.
My best course of action would be to shut up and play the game, but realistically even if I played the game for a few weeks consistently, I might up and vanish like I have already done, for possibly longer times then this time(deep down, I can't even say this isn't a possibility, I know this to be the curse of being fanatically inspired to do outrageous huge ambitions projects, then BOOM, inspiration drys up leaving all those who believed something cool was happening disappointed)
TL;DR: I love the project, I want to do the project, I will do the project weather it's here on this site or over the course of the next year off and on again. But I'm probably not the guy to be doing the project with any kind of audience as eventually I'll deviate from my goals I so ambitious state that I can do for the audience(though when I make those goals, I honestly believe I can complete those goals because at that moment I'm still deeply inspired)
>>825The worst part is, right now, I feel ready to begin again!
But knowing my seemingly unbreakable cycle of booms and busts when it comes to what I'm inspired to do, it's only fair that I shove my life story down your throats... Lol, no not at all, sorry for being so over the top with my explanations.
But yes, if I started now without addressing the critical flaw in my ability to complete things I feel inspired to do, it's going to get confusing when this exact instance repeats itself in a month or two when everything seemed to be going really well
>>826Yeah, it could, I just unjustly kind of want to know the thoughts people have towards this (kind of like taking an advance on my paycheck... On my FIRST week on the job, I really haven't proved I'mean up for the task yet, so I know you guys can't really assess I'd I'mean even worth waiting for if/when I vanish again)
In my eyes it only takes one anon looking forward to the project for me to continue, but I don't want to hog up a thread slot with my unprofessional approach unless people really don't mind my obnoxious behavior
>>827>>828So be it. Poland calls us
Well I'm ready to continue the game, a new age or inspiration grips me.
But like before, 1 turn per 2.5 hours, 10 turns a day, no scheduled time for these updates. This is the most realistic way for me to have a chance of not being burnt out. I basically always carry my phone (using to type out all this right now, that's why the I'mean stuff happens when I'm trying to type [I'm], autocorrect is killing me with predictive words)
>>830So I always can view the this thread and suggestions people have for the Polish kingdom
>>832Sweet, well my first posts will be in 8 hours or so, it's been raining for a few days and the weather suddenly broke into a windy/sunny/blue day so I'm going to be out there for most of the day biking around and stuff, so just a little bit longer, then the polish kingdom will continue. so, stay tuned, I promise this is the last dramatic post I make(thisweekatleast)
>>833So new set of turns?
yes, yes, right. So, Poland, we sent off that scout to the desert, we had a settler being built/finished.
There were some good places for that third city, and most likely we should settle east to grab land from the mongols
>>835So we finally have the settler!
>we should settle in the east to head off Mongol expansionWhen I first saw the map I thought we should settle either in the west on the wide isthmus to prevent other civilizations from coming into the territory, or in a spot on
The south because it was a good location. However, that was before I was aware we shared a segment of a continent with the Mongols. Can you post a screenshot of the areas in the east?
>>836>finally have the settlerI spoke to soon, I remember working on settlers for Poland, but I guess it wasn't finished yet.
So, here is the state of the nation, Krakow is working on a granary and Warsaw is still working on the settler. There is a barbarian camp to the west that we need to deal with eventually.
And we have a worker that doesn't have any orders.
So
>how much work could a worker work if he worked on-I mean, what should the worker work on next? We finished a farm for Krakow last time, should we improve the horse resources or the build a mine next to Krakow for more production?
>>836>mapsEarlier in the thread we brainstormed some good places for the third city, here are the strategic maps, not much has changed in the last twenty turns except for what our scouts are uncovering in the west.
Strategic maps are great, but I also use them because there is glitch in the game, if I turn on the resource icons, I can actually see resource that other more advanced civilizations have unlocked on the map, even if the current civilization I'm playing hasn't(like iron, I was able to see iron on the map even though I didn't have the tech) but the bug doesn't happen in strategic mode(or hex map)
>>838I also like the idea of settling west
here are the posts with us brainstorming locations
>>526>>527>>528>>529>>530>>531>>533>>534>>535>>536>>537
>>838Well, looking at the map it looks like a spot on the river that feeds into the lake, just beneath the location of the horseman, and either by the lake itself or one tile to the East, is a prime location. That, combined with a city on the coast to the south of it, as well as strategic tile purchases, would box in and contain Mongol expansion (at least by land) and mark off a clear territory for Poland. Although I will say that the costal location to the south has almost no resources, and is not as prime a location as several others
>the coastal city to the south has no resources
yeah, if we settle father east we could get copper and a whole bunch of mountains
>it looks like a spot on the river that feeds into the lake, just beneath the location of the horseman, and either by the lake itself or one tile to the East, is a prime location
You mean over here? by the marble? There were some talk that eventually we could raise Fort Saber to the ground in the distant future
>>841>me talking about razing a city that belongs to the player which is mePolitics is going to get so intense in the future
Right, so I should I start improving the mountain tile next to the Krakow so that we could have a three production tile? After that we could start cutting down the forest and use the extra production to rush something, maybe another settler?
>>843>cutting down the forestThe one on the iron tile I mean, then we could improve the iron for more production
>>844Krakow has a decent amount of food tiles(and with the granary it will have so much food that the rate the city grows will out pace our happiness, especially with a third city on the way, and improving the horses isn't useful because we don't have horse units unlocked(and if I remember, an improved horse tile gives another food resource, so it's not a priorty at the moment)
>>841While the location nearer the marble is arguably superior over all, it is not superior so long as Fort saber is still there. While it may be wise to raze Fort Saber, that will likely not come until long after we have completed the main set of expansion. It looks to me that the tile on the river next to the stone and one away from the lake, or alternatively, the tile on the river right next to the lake may be a good location, although that is somewhat close to Krakow. I think this location would serve its main purpose of denying that land to the Mongols well, but also be a reasonably decent city.
In order to completely block off territory from the Mongols, we'd need a second city in the south. (Do cities in Civ 5 have up to three tiles expansion from the center? They only have two in Civ 4, but have three in Civ 6). My initial though was the plains tile on the coast, so as to enable the oasis to be within the city, and to let the copper resource be taken up by a later city placement. Later, I thought perhaps settling on the hill tile one over to the east would allow the city to have both the copper resource and the other resource within limits.
However, looking at that placement I see that it would not effectively take up much of the land further to the East, which presumably would be abandoned to the Mongols. So I'm now thinking a placement right next to the Oasis (does that provide freshwater?) would effectively take up more space from the Mongols, would have enough plains for food production, and would block the Mongols easily.
>>845Can Krakow build a second settler anytime soon?
>>846>city placements along the river next to the lake near Krakowboth of these places look good, those where the spots I had in mind, along the river, possibly could steal the marble from Mongolia someday, and it might be close to Krakow but it still will function pretty decently with a few hills and room for farms south of the river.
I think the eastern most tile you marked would be perfect, it would get us the elephant and the horse imminently and really block off Mongolia, it just means we don't get the iron to the north west, but another city could be set up there, in the way you talked about how the southern city could act like a land claim, and build another city later to grab the copper.
>In order to completely block off territory from the Mongols, we'd need a second city in the south. (Do cities in Civ 5 have up to three tiles expansion from the center?)They do have three tile expansion rage from the city center. The placement on the plains wouldn't be able to reach the copper, but it would reach the oasis, and building the other city could be set on a hill would give us the stone/sheep/copper/tons of production mines
The Iron on the hill/coast might not be worth getting because of Krakow's placement.
>>846>can Krakow build a second settler anytime soonI'm thinking
1. Start building a mine next to Krakow
2. Finish the granary
3. Start building a settler
4. Finish the mine
5. Cut down the forest with the iron resource
6. the extra production from the forest will finish/rush the settler
7. build the mine for the Iron resource once the forest is cut down
I say it's best to develop and fortify one's own territory before expanding, merely out of principle.
>>848Now that's a good plan
>>847It looks like the tile on the river next to the stone is a clear best option now. As for the Iron resource, it looks like it will be within the city limits of a future coastal city next to the fish resource
