Oh anon, immortal leader of one of the chosen civilizations, you and fellow anons must direct the peoples of <insert civ here> to full glory. You see there is computer terminal out there with one highly driven fellow who has decided to play a game. A game against himself. For days this fellow played, directing all the moves for each of the ten nations placed on the map of a civ5 game, taking the time and putting in the effort to fully reach the potential of each of the nations. But now he offers up one of these nations for you to direct. Will you lead that civilization to new heights, or will it fall and turn to sand in your hands.

Welcome, so I'm playing a civilization 5 game with the two major expansions. It's a hotseat game, meaning I'm controlling all the players in the game, and I've been doing it for awhile. I'm the kind of guy who used to play monopoly against himself when I was a child, I have a very active imagination and I thought, why not play a full civ game in which I play to the best of my ability for each nation? And that's what I've begun to do, I'm already 120 turns into the game which really translates to I've played 1,200 turns for each nation on the map(mostly consisting of figuring out the best resource collection tactics and moving units to explore the map, REAL fascinating guys realllll fascinating stuff). I'm hoping to play the game in a way that leads to some really fun political events, crusades/proxy wars/neo-imperialism/territory disputes, we could have religions based around the sun pony, and another religion based on the moon pony(get a catholic/orthodox religion divide in the mix), just think "Super Model UN". When it comes to wars/diplomacy I'm going to play each nation to the best of my ability's, so the game is going to be as fair as I possible can make it when it comes to how nations treat each other.

Final thing, this is going to be a long long long long game, I LOVE civilization, but even I get tired of playing 100's of turns to get a 10 turn farm to be built. So I'm moving at the pace of 10 turns a day(or 10 turns for each player, equaling 100 turns), so everyday at some consistent time I'll check in, give updates, look for the inputs that you have for the next moves or what to build. Think of it like a news site, a slowly evolving world you can come back and check in on daily.

Anyway's let me introduce you to the nations around the our little world. First up, we have the Zulu. Pretty good starting position, but wasn't really going for faith(I figure whatever you guys would want to create a religion around Celestia, so this wouldn't be the best civilization for that). I'm going to go though and present each civ with a map/social policy's/tech tree, feel free to ask for more information on any of these nations. More to come in the next post

Just when we thought the barbarians where taken care of, a runner from the scout troop returns telling of yet another camp to the west of Warsaw. The rumors spread though the capital at first instilling worry, but an young militia officer who was home from the spear unit stationed in the northern sheep pasture had a few to many to drink and gave an rousing speech, telling about the braveness of our military, about how our troops have fought many barbarianism out there in the untamed lands to the east of Krakow, and how we will always triumph over those savages. Three cheers!

Do we have an extra spearman? It may be worth just watching the encampment (if one spearman isn't sufficient to take it out) and guarding the improvements around Warsaw with a single spearman, while another escorts a settler

Our scouts reach the entrance to the desert, but they need a direction to travel, should they go south or west?

And so another day goes by, another 10 turns. Across the world all nations now have two city's or more, where entering the middle ancient era, more production choices, more tiles, income and more soldiers. The future is bright.

Same time tomorrow, 6 or 7 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

We have three spearman, so after they finish healing in krakow, we can station one in Warsaw and send one out to take care of the rat den. Thankfully it's only a brute barbarian, we really have been lucky, my other nations have been running into more and more spear man barbs which are a pain to take out.

For the next city I suppose, it's just I rather have two spear man guarding Warsaw because of all the improvements. But it's not set in stone, we could go straight for another settler(we might have to wait to use so that stay above 0 happiness, but it's better to have a settler then not) The settler should be done in two days, so we can figure it out then.

Wow, after today we will be 2/15 of the way though the game. I don't often play civilization 5(played way more civilization 4), so I don't know how long this period of extreme slowness will last, but at least their will be 100's of turns in which the politics/wars/religion aspect will be far more relevant then it is in the early game. One day all the good land will be taken up and nations will have multiple city's. It's going to be incredible! Though I'm guessing that's a few weeks away from now.

Anyways, going to start playing, be back in 40 minutes or so I think. The scout is going to go south and the new barbarian camp will be dealt with soon. The farm east of Krakow should be finished today, so if you guys have input on what next to build with our worker let me know.

The statue of Zeus was built in a far away land. Our scouts found more barbarians in the desert and our workers complete the farm. Not all that much happening on this side of the world, thankfully no barbarian spear man have come out of the fog. I'm thinking building a mine on the hill next to Krakow would be great, Krakow has all the food it needs for now, what it lacks is production, and the mine would be a quick solution, where improving the iron would require cutting down the forest. But since the Granary is almost done, cutting down the forest would give a good boost to production for whatever we build next, so it might be a good strategy.

I'm going to be using a new method for when I produce updates, instead of sitting down and doing ten solid turns which is a little overwhelming, I'm going to keep a rate of 1 turn per 2.5 hours, meaning 9.6 turns in 24 hours, then I'll do the last .4 turn before the period of time ends.

Still 10 turns a day, just spaced out, so if I play 2 turns that covers 4 hours. This way I can take my time with each turn, and not feel overwhelmed. The way I have been doing makes it so that I play for nearly 2 to 3 hours straight to try to get ten turns in(or 100 small turns for all the nations).

The downside is that I'm not going to be consistent as to when I'm playing the game, I may do some turns in a few hours, then vanish for 8 or 9 hours and suddenly come back and play a few more turns. Inconvenient I know, but it makes it easier to take on this behemoth of a task that I still very much want to do.

So I've marked this moment as the beginning, every 24 hours from this point on, I'll play though 10 turns and keep you guys updated. But when those updates come is going to be sporadic and unorganized at best, I'll still be here reading the thread though my phone or when I sit down at my computer(I'll check the thread every 3 or 4 hours).

Hopefully this is the last adjustment to the scheduled for at least a few weeks, If I can't keep this scheduled then I don't think I have what it takes to play though the game the way I was hoping to do for the board.

Exactly, I do like what this game is becoming, and I can see it's just going to get better and better as time goes on. But the turns are taking a lot longer then they where back at when I was at 100 turns, having multiple city's,barbarians, settler placements and build choices is becoming a bit much to keep track in my head, and I want to make the best choices for each player.

There are some pros to this new system, the time I give the community to decide on a choice is going to be a lot longer, before I would sit and wait for anyone to give input for at least 30 minutes, then if no one had input then I would choose whatever I thought was best. So now you guys don't need to be here at a specific time for your voices to be heard, you can post whenever is convenient(just don't expect a response right away)

10 turns a day was a nice tempo in the past, before I brought the game to this board I was playing the way I'm going to be playing now, a few turns in the morning, a few turns at night, and keeping a pace of 8 or 10 turns a day was the average. For now I want to see if I can at least keep this pace of 10 turns a day, the latter eras might become even slower(especially when big wars start, it will take a lot of time to plan military unit actions), but for now at least 10 turns a day should be slow enough to enjoy the game while being consistent.

It's the stone age blues, the world is so primitive that deciding were that third city will go in relation to other nations is the most exciting political event in the game at the moment(which, is actually kinda of exciting, yet still not nearly as thrilling as the later game stuff; crusades/trade pacts/ <insert_modern_day_political_event_here>)

Also school/work has made time go by faster then I like. It really doesn't even feel like that much tI'm has passed, right?-
>1 month ago, my last post was back in July
-gah, wow time flys.

I love the project I have, even if I didn't complete the game here on mlpol, the save file is sitting there, compelling me to pick it up again(were already almost 200 full turns in, which is awesome, and even I'd I haven't played it, the game has already been eched into my mind, the city placements, the civilization, who took what social policy's, etc.)

Anyways, the idea if completing ten turns a day really should be easy enough for me, and because it'seems ""easy"" enough, I can't go lower then that turn amount because the game is going to last multiple months already, going any slower wouldn'the be worth it.

Anyways, putting ALL of that aside, I am the one who said this project was possible and decided to create a thread and say that I could do this for the fun of the community and myself(I still believe in this). But I basically failed the statements above, and the last thing I want to do is have vanishing episodes(too many fanfiction authors have done this to storys I like, sometimes updating a chapter of the story 4 months later, which now I understand more then ever how someone could just "lose" track of time)

>ramblings later
So, I don't really know what to do, the only way I can move the project forward is by actually playing the game, but now you anons know the full extent of my attention span, I may not be the guy for this project, yet I definitely wish I could be.

My best course of action would be to shut up and play the game, but realistically even if I played the game for a few weeks consistently, I might up and vanish like I have already done, for possibly longer times then this time(deep down, I can't even say this isn't a possibility, I know this to be the curse of being fanatically inspired to do outrageous huge ambitions projects, then BOOM, inspiration drys up leaving all those who believed something cool was happening disappointed)

TL;DR: I love the project, I want to do the project, I will do the project weather it's here on this site or over the course of the next year off and on again. But I'm probably not the guy to be doing the project with any kind of audience as eventually I'll deviate from my goals I so ambitious state that I can do for the audience(though when I make those goals, I honestly believe I can complete those goals because at that moment I'm still deeply inspired)

I spoke to soon, I remember working on settlers for Poland, but I guess it wasn't finished yet.

So, here is the state of the nation, Krakow is working on a granary and Warsaw is still working on the settler. There is a barbarian camp to the west that we need to deal with eventually.

And we have a worker that doesn't have any orders.

So

>how much work could a worker work if he worked on-
I mean, what should the worker work on next? We finished a farm for Krakow last time, should we improve the horse resources or the build a mine next to Krakow for more production?

Earlier in the thread we brainstormed some good places for the third city, here are the strategic maps, not much has changed in the last twenty turns except for what our scouts are uncovering in the west.

Strategic maps are great, but I also use them because there is glitch in the game, if I turn on the resource icons, I can actually see resource that other more advanced civilizations have unlocked on the map, even if the current civilization I'm playing hasn't(like iron, I was able to see iron on the map even though I didn't have the tech) but the bug doesn't happen in strategic mode(or hex map)

Well, looking at the map it looks like a spot on the river that feeds into the lake, just beneath the location of the horseman, and either by the lake itself or one tile to the East, is a prime location. That, combined with a city on the coast to the south of it, as well as strategic tile purchases, would box in and contain Mongol expansion (at least by land) and mark off a clear territory for Poland. Although I will say that the costal location to the south has almost no resources, and is not as prime a location as several others

Krakow has a decent amount of food tiles(and with the granary it will have so much food that the rate the city grows will out pace our happiness, especially with a third city on the way, and improving the horses isn't useful because we don't have horse units unlocked(and if I remember, an improved horse tile gives another food resource, so it's not a priorty at the moment)

While the location nearer the marble is arguably superior over all, it is not superior so long as Fort saber is still there. While it may be wise to raze Fort Saber, that will likely not come until long after we have completed the main set of expansion. It looks to me that the tile on the river next to the stone and one away from the lake, or alternatively, the tile on the river right next to the lake may be a good location, although that is somewhat close to Krakow. I think this location would serve its main purpose of denying that land to the Mongols well, but also be a reasonably decent city.

In order to completely block off territory from the Mongols, we'd need a second city in the south. (Do cities in Civ 5 have up to three tiles expansion from the center? They only have two in Civ 4, but have three in Civ 6). My initial though was the plains tile on the coast, so as to enable the oasis to be within the city, and to let the copper resource be taken up by a later city placement. Later, I thought perhaps settling on the hill tile one over to the east would allow the city to have both the copper resource and the other resource within limits.

However, looking at that placement I see that it would not effectively take up much of the land further to the East, which presumably would be abandoned to the Mongols. So I'm now thinking a placement right next to the Oasis (does that provide freshwater?) would effectively take up more space from the Mongols, would have enough plains for food production, and would block the Mongols easily.

>city placements along the river next to the lake near Krakow
both of these places look good, those where the spots I had in mind, along the river, possibly could steal the marble from Mongolia someday, and it might be close to Krakow but it still will function pretty decently with a few hills and room for farms south of the river.

I think the eastern most tile you marked would be perfect, it would get us the elephant and the horse imminently and really block off Mongolia, it just means we don't get the iron to the north west, but another city could be set up there, in the way you talked about how the southern city could act like a land claim, and build another city later to grab the copper.

>In order to completely block off territory from the Mongols, we'd need a second city in the south. (Do cities in Civ 5 have up to three tiles expansion from the center?)

They do have three tile expansion rage from the city center. The placement on the plains wouldn't be able to reach the copper, but it would reach the oasis, and building the other city could be set on a hill would give us the stone/sheep/copper/tons of production mines

The Iron on the hill/coast might not be worth getting because of Krakow's placement.

I'm thinking

1. Start building a mine next to Krakow
2. Finish the granary
3. Start building a settler
4. Finish the mine
5. Cut down the forest with the iron resource
6. the extra production from the forest will finish/rush the settler
7. build the mine for the Iron resource once the forest is cut down
