>>140313Silver has been shot at least twice by equestrian rifles, once by an equestrian pistol, and once by an equestrian carbine. The fact that he’s still standing is almost enough to make you lose faith in Equestrisn arms manufacturing.
He smiles, showing all of his white teeth.
“I hope command sees it that way. And I hope we’re still here by the morning.”
>>140314He chuckles.
"I will testify to Command myself on your leadership abilities, if I must."
>>140315He pauses for another moment with that same strange smile.
“Th-thank you, sir. And the same to you.”
>>140316He waves it off.
"Ahh, it is nothing. But I appreciate it, Brisbuck."
>>140317He nods.
“Alright. Onwards. We’re keeping at least one machine gun of some type back here to prevent the Changelings from attacking us from the West, but take as much as necessary to push East.”
>>140318"Oh. In that case, I think I will take machine gun we got from changelings here."
>>140320"I assume you are also keeping one of our companies here to guard town hall?"
>>140321"A section, at least. We have wounded, and we know they have forces to our west. I do not want them attacking us in the back."
>>140322"Do you think we should bring cocooned ponies here, then, since this location has been secured and garrisoned?"
>>140323"If we can, perhaps. But we
must secure the lines of communication first."
>>140324"Very well. I will go gather soldiers and equipment for this mission."
What companies/squads are at Town Hall and ready to head out?
>>140325All segments have returned. A squad (down three), B squad (down one), and C squad (down one), plus the machine gun detachment and headquarters section.
>>140326>>140327Silver calls on C squad, as well as an additional two ponies from B squad to help him with the changeling machinegun, to join him in taking back the telephone office.
>>140328“Keeping it conservative. Alright. Let’s see this done.”
Silver has 11 members of C squad, and the two ponies with the machine gun who can hopefully figure out how to work the thing. A private in C squad assists in carrying ammunition for the massive weapon.
>>140329Silver and this gathering of soldiers heads for the general area of the telephone office. Hopefully there's a good building they can set themselves up in.
>>140330Brisbuck gives this last remark
"Hurry. You can hear the distant artillery as surely as I. Command needs information relayed..."
In the area of the telephone office, Silver can see that the position is near where Main Street merges with Old Mecc. There is the post office immediately west, a gas station and repair shop to the east where the triangle splits off, an inn on the north side of main past the split, and of course the salloon and feed store to the east on Old Mecc. Further to the west are shops like a grocer with living quarters on top, and a multifamily unit
>>140331Do any of those options have positions facing the telephone office, such as windows?
>>140332Windows:
From the West (the direction Silver is approaching from) and slightly south: Th grocer with living space and the multifamily. Both are two floors
From the north, the Inn. Two floors
From the south and slightly east: the feed store and saloon
The post office and the gas station are immediately adjacent
>>140333Silver decides to set them up in the grocer, second floor.
>>140334But as silver approaches the grocer, he hears the distinctive “tat tat tat” of an Equestrian model machine gun. The squad ducks for cover between buildings
>>140335Silver joins them, trying to pinpoint the origin of the MG's fire.
>>140336This is straightforward: the roof of the Lunar Telephone and Telegraph office
>>140337"Well, so much for this being straightforward...anypony have any periscope binoculars by chance?"
>>140338If not the squad leader or assistant leader, then hopefully at least Saltlick has come along. In any case, silver receives binoculars.
>>140339Silver uses them to peak around the corner of the building they're hiding behind, to see where exactly the MG is.
>>140340Silver can see that the telegraph office is a square building with a flat roof, like so many in the town, with a small wall coming up providing some level of cover for the creatures on the roof. Silver can recognize the type of gun. It's a belt-fed, water cooled machine gun of medium caliber on a tripod. It's designed for area defense, is very accurate, and can fire almost indefinitely. It's what the Equestrians use to defend key locations like the royal castle at Canterlot. The lack of mobiity means it's being phased out - hence why it's here miles away from the front - but there is no lack of lethality. The machine gun is right there, slightly right of center, more readily able to traverse down to shoot west on Old Mecc, but also capable of covering part of Main street, as well as to the east. There are noticeable blind spots here though, especially on Main. The gun is supported by one, two three, four rifle ponies. Interestingly Silver doesn't see any obvious signs these are
not Equestrian ponies.
>>140341Any specific blind spots they can take advantage of?
>>140342A blind spot rather close to the building on Old Mecc. A larger blind spot along the south side of Main Street, around the post office. And then one extending a block or more on the approach from the East. Essentially these are caused by the gun being blocked by the roof and the roof of the post office from being able to point far enough down.
>>140343"Alright, I need team of soldiers to flank them from East and take that gun out. Once it is down, we can set up MG here and destroy rest of these changelings."
>>140344"How are we going to take it out?" He asks
>>140345"Hmm...okay, slight change of plans. If I and MG team flank them, we may be able to deal significant damage to their gun and disable it."
>>140346"If it gets a bullet in the water jacket, well, it won't be firing for very long. Seems risky, but they are exposed up there."
>>140347"Indeed it is. I will go by myself, if none of you are willing to come with, but either way this must be done."
>>140348“I’ll go.” A light blue Pegasus steps forward. Then another, and another. until silver has several volunteers
>>140349Silver can't help but smile at the display from his soldiers.
"You make me one proud sergeant. Alright, let us get it done. Rest of you, I need you to keep gun occupied. Do not get shot, just keep them thinking we are still here."
>>140350“Sir, yes sir.” They answer, smiling.
There’s also the little question of where to place the light machine gun
>>140351Which LMG? The changeling one they brought with them?
>>140352No, the magazine fed gun that belongs to the squad. Also, where is silver placing the changeling gun?
>>140353Ohh. The LMG is staying right where it is. Once the flanking team has engaged the changelings and their attention is turned towards them, those who stayed right here will use the LMG to shred the changelings to bits. The changeling MG will be set up in the blind spot of the Equestrian MG and used to shoot the barrel shroud, as well as any riflelings who turn to attack.
>>140355"That will be all, dear. This will do just fine."
She begins to walk away with the dress
>>140354Technically the LMG is more mobile and easily set up after being moved, though it has a lower rate of fire and a limited magazine.
>>140356Hmm...fair. Alright then, it's the LMG that's used to flank, and the changeling MG left with the others.
(You) are all cute ponies.
>>140357Silver presumably wants to move with the machinegun section down a path right next to the post office
>>140360GaspsIs, presumably, a cute pony >>140361Precisely, to both counts.
>>140154"Probably best to find some spot that won't cause a commotion for leaving coffins out in the open."
