Since I've lived in southern US my whole life, I'm no stranger to sunburn. Usually I just leave it be and deal with it but if it's bothering you, put some lotion on it. Not much else to tell you than just after awhile in the hot blazing sun, your body will adjust to it in time.
Aloe Vera is good for taking away some of the pain as well as make it heal a bit quicker. Lotion should work too. Should be at any Walgreens or a similar drugstore.
A bad sunburn in my mind is a 2nd degree burn with blisters. If you have them, don't use any creams as they can hinder the healing process.
