My Dad had an old Betamax player and a huge box full of old classic movies he'd taped off of TV during the 80s, so I grew up watching a lot of that kind of stuff. There are a lot of high quality films from previous eras out there that are well worth getting into, I think this is a productive area of discussion for us.
Just out of curiosity, if I were interested in hosting a weekly or bi-weekly classic movie stream, how many people would be interested in attending? I know we have a lot of weekly streams going as it is and I don't want to oversaturate the community, but I think it would be a fun project if people are into the idea. For anyone interested, what would be a good day? Would one movie per week suffice or maybe do a double feature every couple of weeks? What sorts of films would people like to see?
Some of my old favourites, r8 n' h8.
>>98580It's eerie how much our media changed in the 1960s. Specifically, before JFK and after JFK.
Take for example, movies/shows portraying life in an American city, say Chicago.
The streets are clean. There's no multiculturalism. People were Johnny, Jack, Tommy, Jane, Ruth, Becky. There was no Jamal, Achmed, Ivan, Shaniqua. Women were modest. There were no whores/prostitutes. Crime didn't even exist, unless it was part of a plot. Religion and traditional values were the norm. Nuclear families were everywhere. Sexual tension wasn't even present.
Then you look at movies/shows after JFK's assassination, and the sudden change is shocking, and scary.
The streets are dirty. Multicultural cities. Achmed, Pajeet, Jamal, Ling, Carlos. Sluts everywhere, wearing clothes that 1950s women would be embarrassed to wear in bed. Crime is rampant. Religion and traditional values are out of the window. Broken families are everywhere. Sexual tension in every movie.
It's like we were plopped into Hell.

>A Bridge Too FarNever seen it, but I hear it's a great movie.
>The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly11/10, my favorite Clint Eastwood Western.
>From Russia With LoveAny 007 movie with Sean Connery is 10/10.
>The Dirty DozenIt's a classic in my family.
There's also The Princess Bride
>Not technically "Old", unless you consider a 1987 film to be old.Kelly's Heroes
Young Frankenstein
Maltese Falcon
Halls of Montezuma
>>98598The Princess Bride is the fucking shit man. If that movie ever leaves the cultural consciousness the world would be darker than Argentina.
>>98580>There have been complaints lately...we're moving into complaining about complaining I see, but the board is still fine. It's been peaky like this since the start some days there's more variety and activity some days there's less
>>98580>We may be too caught up in current politics I must have blinked and missed that.
>>98630What's with the rising sarcasm all around the board? Come on, we ain't THAT old...
Does not matter if the show dies, remember season 1, when nightmare moon destroyed the elements of harmony? Remember what twilight did when that happened?
In this situation we are the mane6(gorillion) the show are the elements and Hasbro is nightmare moon.
Ever seen the film Monkey Business? It's a classic comedy starring Cary Grant as an autistic chemist who thinks he's discovered the cure to aging.

Ever seen Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? It was a brilliant movie for the time that did not hold back from showing the corruption pervasive in DC and how reformers get thrown under the wheels. It's a must-see.
