Some things that are causing this:
1. Shitposters make a lot of shit, so kicking them out slows the overall traffic by removing the useless noise.
2. Even without shitposters shitposting, the board has the same amount of actual content, meaning the board quality goes up thanks to not having to dig the quality posts from mountains of waste.
3. Shitposters congregate on boards with most traffic as opposed to boards with most quality, meaning they'll rather stay in a place they can all scream at each other than come to a place where people ignore them.
Don't measure the success of a board by the amount of posts, but by the amount of content vs shitposts. I for one would rather spend few minutes reading good posts than a few hours looking for them.
