The alternative Video sharing website Vidme will be closing its service permanently on December 15th 2017, This was announced yesterday by the Co-Founder of Vidme, Warren Shaeffer. The 2014 founded site went bankrupt due to a lack of Advertiser funding. There will be no replacement or followup project to this. This step will lead to a fortification of Youtubes already gargantuan monopoly on the market.
In detail Shaeffer lists the reasons for the failure of the site as follows:
>Monetizing user-generated content is increasingly challenging
>Advertisers want to target specific audiences
>Most advertisers want their ads to complement “brand-safe” content.
>Few advertisers are willing to negotiate direct deals with platforms that don’t have enormous scale
>Although we introduced direct fan patronage as an additional business model, the profit margin was insufficient to cover the high costs of storing and delivering video.
>Storing and delivering video remains extremely costly
>remains extremely costly
>The definition of “scale” has changed, and attracting audiences away from existing platforms is harder than ever
