I've now seen the entire series up to this point and the movie, and I know there's a fairly wide body of fan created content that I'm not familiar with. If the board could compile a list of the important/good ones and post it I'd probably find it easier to delve into.

I once read a pretty neat fanfic about how Discord's magic works, it's about Twilight asking to learn his magic, but she ends up with eyes so good she can see everything rot away in front of her. I don't remember if it went anywhere, does anyone remember the name of it? I think it had an edgy name like "Rot" or "Decay".

Is it meant to be a mirror lightly of their target audience's life, that of a boring guy who wants an irregular life full of people more interesting than him giving him shit to do and react to?

The whole "guy wants a regular life but is surrounded by quirky girls who frequently disrupt his tranquility" is kind of a harem anime stock plot, I'm guessing whoever wrote this was trying to mimic that. Haven't actually gotten around to reading the fic yet, I will shortly, but I'm guessing that's what he was going for.
