I remember seeing this being shot down since the FED was still going by the gold standard, yet I must posit that ratio of gold ounce to American dollar out of balance, making the dollar a fiat currency essentially but with a small gold backing. Silver may have solved this crisis by being in enough supply to ran expansive American economy with enough money supply to back it. Gold restricts the money supply, so the US moved away from it (because they didn't have enough gold to repay debts.)

However the counter may be, more money supply equals more FED power. The FED could print more money & get away with it. In this counter-argument, Kennedy could have been helping the FED instead of hurting it. Nonetheless, does this pose the solution of silver in either case.
