From a logical standpoint chem trails are limited by the effects possible of inhalation activated chemicals. Which are greatly exagerated by fiction for their effects. Next is the ppm of air in the volume of air to the ground. How concentrated can a chemical from a canister on a plan 15k ft up be once it disperses.
I'm not a biochemist though. But if I was going to control the population, i wouldnt use chemtrails, Id use those air curtains at grocery stores.

My question is whether it's actually used. I've only seen borderline tin-hatter articles written about it, all poorly research and cited with similar echoes. Because, to me, if it were used, I don't find much reason at all in covering it up in any way.

What if these dispersions are used on every single airplane in the world? Wit the amount of air traffic increasing constantly, there could be a considerable impact depending on the chemicals being used.

it's scary because planes leave big trails in the sky. this is normal because at 10km up there, it's cold. it's very cold, and depends of the air pressure and temperature, the colder it gets, the larger and longer lasting these clouds will last.
the idea that planes should be used to reduce the greenhouse effect is stupid, and at best reduces the plane's own environmental impact for generating greenhouse gas. to be efficient we would need 150 to 200 times all the airliners that have been built so far., flying in high altitude with full tanks to ensure creating enough clouds to have a slight impact and reduce the global warming, since it's the presumed goal of this conspiracy.
