Its been about five years since I first watched it, and I am rewatching it. I had forgotten how damned good the show is. I want to buy some MLP plushies. What season do you feel it starts to become less awesome at?

I'm not sure the season, but Equestria went to shit when non-pony species were popping up on pony land.

Season 3 really kicked my young autistic self in the teeth, but that was mostly because of Twicorn.

Season 8 and 9 were pretty shit. Most poners did enjoy the Kirin episode. But other than that, it was pretty bad.
Every other season had at least a bunch of gud episodes. Season 6 is the weakest in my opinion. But still better than the last two seasons.

Season 1-3 are canon, seasons 8-9 are cancer except for a few select episodes, everything in between is hit or miss. Overall I would say if you don’t watch the last two seasons the average quality level is about 80%.

When they kicked Lauren Faust out which is also when Hasbro decided that the unexpected and unwanted new market just wasn't worth producing anything for.
The downward spiral was set in stone then. What was in store later for the future of the show from season to season? Toy sales for sure.
The plan in the future had to have whatever animated be a toy.
The destruction of the future wasn't felt as much in season 1, season 2 saw the incoming storm, season 3 was hit and the shit storm never stopped, just some parts of the house stopped leaking for a moment.
Here's some helpful thoughts to maximize enjoyment.
>Ignore Twilight has wings.
>When characters have to learn a lesson again they are working against a hidden foe (Hasbro).
>Everything awful in the show, was actually an evil Discord fast foward to break their spirits when returning to the hedge maze. Or Chrysalis or Sombra or the first MLP Grogar or your headcanon of choice.
Some moments are wildly different from an episode's quality at times.
So... it's a ride.
Make sure to watch the second MLP FiM movie. Longer than an episode, and feels like one.
And if you're desperate and craving more there's EQG, there's much much more than I expected from a semi-spinoff series.
There's some high highs and some low lows everywhere past season 3 though-out everywhere else.
And if you're really craving some schizo shit, but don't want even more fanfiction there's the comics.
The down side, and the spoiler here does spoil some stuff. Equestria is inhabited by some more gay ass furries including just cats.
But if you make it through all the other canon content it might be worth checking out the stranger Equestria that is the comics.
There's some fucked up fridge logic horror if you pry into it, which might be fun.

Season 1 is the OG that I grew to love. Season 2 was lots of fun. The peak for me, in hindsight. Not a huge fan of the musicals, but the character interaction was great. Season 3 was okay until Twilicorn. That rushed wrap-up sucked. There were plenty of stinkers along the way, of course, but after season 3 I feel like it goes from being mostly good with some bad to mostly bad with some good. 4-5 was okay, as in I can remember specific episodes that I really liked, and 6 was meh, though I liked some. Creaturquestria onward sucks. You shouldn't dismiss the later seasons out of hand like a lot of people do though. Watch it all. You'll find fun and interesting factoids here and there with which to fuck on people in online arguments, and there are still plenty of fun episodes.
You may not have been there for it when it happened, but rest assured that you will still be able to benefit from being able to btfo Flutterfags and Glimmerniggers or whatever, even to this day, whenever some butthurt waifufag wants to defend his precious whorse.

I haven't really fleshed out my opinion on that overall, but I'd recommend also watching basically the entirety of Equestria Girls. That actually stayed good until it was abruptly just gone. I think that still had the spirit of earlier seasons up until the end.

First three seasons are a must watch, except twilicorn, which is not canon. I call the latter half of season three, seasons four and five "extended canon" since it's Megans canon and sway too far from the intended story. After that the haberverse begins and few select good episodes.
