We Europeans still have ancient traditions of dressing up as animals going back to the ice age, furries are just a corrupted ancestral blood memory of that time. In some rural places of Europe, you still find these ancient costume traditions that date back to the ice age, to the Wolf & Bear cults. Interestingly enough, wolf and bears are the two animals that are the most frequently mentioned in old European myth and folklore. From Little Red Riding Hood to the founding of Rome itself with Romulus and Remus nursing the she-wolf. The Germanic Berserkirs and Ulfhednar warriors weren't the only ones wearing bear and wolf fur, the Roman also had that custom, though in a more symbolic form in its military. There are many more examples of this to draw from, but as I said, the custom of dressing up as an animal and taking on another form still survives in pockets throughout Europe. The Bulgarian Kukeri, Romanian Bear-Dancers, Alpine Krampus, and Nordic Julebukk are all surviving bits of the same thing.

The furry fandom is still for the most part made up of whites, and often very intelligent whites at that. Lots of people in the tech sector there as well as talented writers and artists. Either in study, cooperation or even opposition.
Because of how much time interacting and thinking of interacting is, it's soaked into the memory. Nearly all peoples have a similar sort of inherited memory.
How that manifests if it ever does shows that information is carried and what is lost or gained.
That by itself isn't why people who heavily enjoy MLP are based. After all the passed information memory can only account for so much. Otherwise the amount of people who are as invested would be perhaps more sizable.
Because MLP captures the human existence (and perspectives), the hopes and dreams in a fantastical world. Accidentally or not there's much to be said. That's why politics lines up so well due to the fundamentals, even in disagreement.
