Where did Luna and Celestia come from? According to them, Flurry Heart was the very first alicorn being born as one. In what other ways can a alicorn come to be? By ascencion. Twilight was an unicorn. Cadance was a pegasus, I think. What was Luna and Celestia?
>>321295Your questions rely on the writers having cared about historical consistency in the setting, which they didn't. 1000 years is just a shorter way of saying "Long ago in a distant land."
>>321300This. But I was thinking if anyone had some headcanon explanation for those events, they'd like to share.
>>321300Get that Doylist logic out of here.
This is a fun thread for speculation from a Watsonian perspective.
>>321303I have a bunch of fun headcanon.
One of the reasons for the banishment, or rather, the wedge driven between the young "sisters" is Luna's divinely crafted moonshine. Celestia didn't like it at all.
Depending on how much scifi you want to go, changelings were an alien race slowly dying in an environment/atmosphere on Equus. Discord steps in and offers them a discorded salvation of sorts and they became changelings with some of their technology built-in.
I generally like to think Celestia and Luna were born from another alicorn, but as "normal" ponies to become alicorns later. Though I have read some pretty epic fanfics that suggest Celestia was created as a superweapon of sorts with no alicorns ever seen before. I personally tend to switch between the two.
I was in an RP (play by post) where Luna was sent back in time to before the uniting of the three pony tribes and end up 'accidentally' starting the sparkle family line.
Fun stuff.
Flurry Heart happened because a new force of nature emerged/is emerging. Unlike Twilight's magic of friendship, this new force is something that can be embodied even by a baby.
Twilight too signifies a changing natural force from the elements of harmony into magical friendship, she and her friends were obviously destined.
Celestia and Luna likely don't have memories of their earliest years, so perhaps they're taking the absence of a mother for an abscence of birth. They come from a precivilized time where the diurnal cycle was most determinate.
Candence emerged when the ponies gained enough sentience to feel true love. She's older than she appears.

"This is a TV show, don't think about it" ends interesting worldbuilding discussions.
What's the matter? Don't think you can contribute to one?
>>321332I know I can contribute, I simply choose not to. Nowhere in OP's post does it state this thread was meant for speculation, he asked questions, I gave him an answer.
>>321337But your answer is homosexual
If the writers don't care about a consistent universe, then why do you present them as an authority on the subject?
There is a universe despite them not caring, even without being canonicalized by hasbro.
