It has an anon in Equestria but its focus and perspective is from the guards then him and it expands a lot on the pony lore which would work well in the show, but I won't spoil it anymore

My must-read authors are Bad Horse, Georg, Estee, D.G.D. Davidson, Dan's Comments, DustTraveller, Horizon, and Cold in Gardez. There are a few others but these guys are my short list.

I get the impression from some of their blogs that some of them, maybe most of them, wouldn't approve of this place, nor of being endorsed here, but that's not what this is about. They can write better than most purveyors of horsewords. Maybe in fanfic that's a low bar--god knows I've been reading fanfic in various fandoms long enough, and I have become accustomed to semiliterate ALL CAPS garbage screeched onto the screen by thirteen-year-old anime fangirls. These people write much better than that.

Go to FIMfiction and dive in. Select something short by one of them and see if you like it.

I bailed part of the way through after he shells Ponyville but I haven't seen anything to suggest the writing ever got any better. It's subversive trash that lures the reader in via the "Anon goes to Equestria and ponies love him" trope.

This one is pretty good if you're looking for a less pastel colored, competent villain power fantasy type fic (never goes real grimderp though):

Seconding ELWGM, it has amazing worldbuilding with plausible technology, politics, military organization and everything else. I'd recommend it to anyone who just wants some slice of life in a well developed fantasy setting, horsefucker or not.

If you like Johnny Bravo, and ponies. I'd also recommended this one.

One to keep an eye out for is this guy. Some whacky stuff to read, and hopefully a few chuckles. The short stories are nice and to the point.

This story right here is a clusterfuck of wtf. I've read it for a long while, but...
It has its ups and downs. Inuniverse quirks, and general asshole moments. It's a long read. With some revisions that can be found in the description. I'm not sure which version I actually read at this point. It's a long story currently clocking in at 2,915,233 words that is still on going. Would I recommend this...
As a stand alone story that has tendrils in many many categories yes. It's a demonstration of shifting genres. As an enjoyable read, it once was for me, but I burnt out there isn't an end yet there is a clear end state. Like some shoenin anime that goal will be milked untill it's dead although it does provide something with the sisyphean journey. Oh and some interesting world building. All the world building all the time.

While this isn't a must read fanfic, so far it's highly amusing.
Take a CYOA character place them instead of the story it's designed for Worm slam him into Equestria and enjoy the results.
Since it's fairly new it only has four chapters so far.
