Steve Bannon had an interesting take on it. he thinks the deep state orchestrated this entire thing to get Trump to cave on either immigration, trade or national security. the Kochservatives will hold him hostage with the conviction vote. there are enough of them in the Senate to do it. I think he's already largely caved on immigration. maybe not totally but he is a shell of his 2016 self, on that issue.

if you get a chance to check out Pence's Hudson institute speech on China, he basically says China is running a info war on the US and has operates throughout the highest sectors of American society. it's a boring speech but I can't believe he'd say it openly. so maybe Trump caved on immigration to clean up the China mess.
