Drawfag and writefag here, finally deciding to move out of the stone age and use drawing programs.

This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Anyone have any tips, or any good leads on info to ease the transition?

Also does anyone know of a good, relatively inexpensive tablet? We're talking late-stage college budget.

Here are some tips I picked up whilst going through my own transition
1) shading on a drawing tablet is completely different than with pencil and paper there’s a reason most digital art uses cell shading. Blending modes are your friend don’t be afraid to experiment with them.and for the love of god don’t use the burn/dodge tool for shading
2) now that you have layers and can easily move things around on the canvas, but That doesn’t mean skip sketching. When I draw I will sometimes create up to 10 different layers just for sketching in a color other than black with the opacity set low before I even start inking
3) if you are “inking” and want erase a line use undo not the eraser tool
4) use a lot of layers. Trying to cram to much into one layer will make you lose your shit when you have to erase something and accidentally also erase something else
I probably have more but they escape me at the moment

There is a pen thingy that you can use instead of a conventional drawing tablet but no idea how good it is.
