>On Thursday, the Anti-Defamation League is adding 36 entries to its longstanding online catalog of extremist symbols, many of which are built around racist stereotypes that have been spread about African Americans and Jews.

>About 10 of them are the logos of extremist organizations. Several others are numeric codes that can carry hidden messages, like the numbers 109 or 110, anti-Semitic shorthand that claims that Jews have been expelled from 109 countries and that the United States should become the 110th.

As with most aspects of the internet age, however, these insignia now emerge at an accelerated pace and reach a far wider audience, according to experts.

The bowl haircut of Dylann Roof, the Charleston gunman, who is often revered by extremists, is sometimes depicted by itself, mounted on a shield, and has engendered a distinct vocabulary. Admirers use screen names like “Bowltrash” or refer to “The Final Bowlution.”
>In the United States, using such symbols is protected by free speech laws, but in countries with tougher laws, like Germany, the police regularly visit schools or otherwise brief the public on the latest symbols, Dr. Miller-Idriss said.

I had a look at their list of hate symbols yesterday after this news, for a laugh, and to see their descriptions of them. Most of them are documenting localized hate symbols, those specific to certain branches of white nationalist/white supremacist groups from different states in the US, as well as White supremacist prison gang symbols. They also have a fair number of acronyms and numerics documented on it. Was kind of surprised to not see clown world on there, since OK, the Bowl-cut, and fucking Moonman are on it now, but it's probably only a matter of time. That, or they know how fucking hilarious and Clownish it would be to add "Clown world" to the list around the same time as those others, or at all. I have to commended them that on the OK sign entry, they at least wrote this "Caution must be used in evaluating instances of this symbol's use." Though it's still hilarious that the purpose of the original "4chan trolling campaign" has now been all but fulfilled thanks to the ADL.
Also, based on the pic, it seems as if we may be getting close to the line of "stating facts is hatespeech", which seems so surreal that I don't want to believe that's the case, and feel like I'm overstating it. It seems like the kind of shit you'd only expect from rabid SJWs, and not from people with actual influence. Then again, we now have politicians openly using the term "White privilege", something I used to believe was in the realm of colleges/universities, and Tumblr, but now has crossed into actual fucking politics.
