That's a very simplistic view. If china is subsidizing industry and stealing US technology, tariffs will bring jobs back to the US. Will the products be more expensive? Yes, somewhat, but the tariff in this case is correcting a market manipulation by the chinese. Increased US employment will causes wages to rise, and will help increase purchasing power.
