I know, right? If the writers want to do the "Exposure to hero gradually makes villain less evil" thing, the hero shouldn't follow the evil one's advice. Especially not when that advice is "Lol just brute force it using your power" instead of anything 'Sneaky and necessary only an evil mind on the side of good could think of'.
