Now we will never hear the end of this. God damn Chicago leftist
Cuck County State’s Attorney’s Office saved Smollett from serving jail time.

>'All Criminal Charges' Against Jussie Smollett Dropped, Attorney Says

>All criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped Tuesday, after the “Empire” star was indicted on 16 felony counts of filing a false police report earlier this month.
>“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement to TheWrap Tuesday.

>“Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him,” Smollett’s attorney Patricia Brown Holmes said in a statement to TheWrap Tuesday. “Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement.”
>“Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions,” she continued. “This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim in this case was the only just result. Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends and career.”

>During a press conference last month, hours after Smollett’s Feb. 21 surrender, Chicago PD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said that the actor staged an attack on himself because he was “dissatisfied with his salary.” He also told reporters the police were in possession of a $3,500 check, which he said Smollett used to pay brothers Olabinjo (“Ola”) and Abimbola (“Abel”) Osundairo for the incident.
>The Osundairos were released without charges Feb. 15, following an arrest and 48-hour hold, after the police said “new evidence” had emerged and that the investigation’s “trajectory” had changed course. Smollett was arrested a few days later.

I do wonder precisely what motivated this. I've seen speculation that this was due to his connections to Kamila Harris, that she's implicated in this, and that the case is being buried to protect her. I've also heard speculation that this is supposed to be the new media story to bury the story that Mueller's report is a big nothing burger.

kim-foxx-jussie-smollett-case-3.pdf
>Allies Asked SA Kim Foxx to Intervene in case against Jussie Smollett Leaked Texts, Emails Show

>Jussie Smollett had pals of his in the Cook County State's Attorney's ear early on in his case -- and, based on leaked correspondence, it looks like she acted on his behalf.
>Texts and emails between State Attorney Kim Foxx and two Jussie allies -- one of which is reported to be a family member of his -- have been leaked, and they show that Foxx was asked to intervene in the case a few days after he'd reported the alleged attack to Chicago PD. It appears that she did exactly that ... and kept Jussie's camp in the loop.

>The initial correspondence started when Michelle Obama's former chief of staff, Tina Tchen, emailed Foxx to say that she was reaching out on behalf of Jussie's family to express "concerns" they had with how the investigation at that point was being handled.
>Jussie had not been charged with a crime yet, but it's believed Chicago PD was already doubting his story and leaking info to the press pushing that narrative.

>Foxx responded to Tchen on Feb. 1, saying ... "Spoke to Superintendent Johnson. I convinced him to Reach out to FBI to ask that they take over the investigation. He is reaching out now and will get back to me shortly."
>The same day, an unnamed relative of Jussie's texted Foxx herself, as well, and Foxx said she was working on getting the case sent over to the FBI. The relative replied, "Omg this would a huge victory." Foxx then responded, "I make no guarantees, but I'm trying."

>Later, Foxx recused herself from the case when Jussie became a suspect. And, of course, her office just announced Tuesday that it was dropping all of the charges against Jussie, after coming out strong with a 16-count indictment just weeks earlier.

My guess it is either payment, personal favor, or some BLM shit. I can't see any other reason, it was definitely not on the level or justice.

The reason they give is certainly batshit crazy "because they want to focus resources on the city’s gun violence".

>Prosecutors says a stunning decision to drop charges against Jussie Smollett doesn’t mean they no longer believe he staged a racial and homophobic attack against him in January.
>First Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Magats told reporters Tuesday that he still believes Smollett filed a false police report. He says prosecutors “stand behind the investigation and the facts.” He added that “this was not an exoneration.”
>A minimum requirement for the dropping of charges is typically that a defendant accept some responsibility and offer an apology.
>But speaking after prosecutors told a judge they were dropping all charges, Smollett conceded nothing and did not apologize. He insisted he’d been “truthful and consistent on every single level since day one.”

>Prosecutors say one of the reasons they decided to drop charges against actor Jussie Smollett was because they want to focus resources on the city’s gun violence.
>Cook County First Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Magats told WLS-TV on Tuesday that prosecutors want to combat “violent crime, gun crime and the drivers of violence.”

That's code for "Because the realization that niggers lie sometimes - especially about crimes and that includes hate crimes - hurts the narrative and we want to ban legal guns in lefty shitholes so banning legal guns elsewhere will seem more normal".

Pardon me, I'm phone posting on break at work so I haven't read everything yet. However it sounds like the judge neglected to seal the police case files, someone filed a FOIA request, and the Chicago pd immediately complied before the documents could get buried.

Did a quick look and it describes the case from start to when Smollett is put in a cell away from any other prisoners.
>The investigation continues.
It then ends.

It's a case of Smollett being unwilling to answer questions after calling for muh hate crime. PD filled a complaint that Jussie made a False call of a hatecrime. Thus the detectives investigate and drove smollet to a sheriff's office to hold him in a cell away from media or prisoners.

Even the people who supported him are bewildered as us. And not in a positive way.

There is a bright side this however...

These people who supported him were betrayed that he LIED. All the support that Smollet had, gone. I feel like his supporters are seeing how corrupt the system is.

I believe the reason this has happened is because the lawyer for Smollett in this case is actually connected to Michael Avenatti and his case with Nike

So it might be the case that Smollett is being let go so they can focus on his lawyer and then get back to him but don't 100% trust my judgement here

>State's attorney did not 'formally' recuse herself in Jussie Smollett case, her office says

>Cook County (Ill.) State’s Attorney Kim Foxx did not “formally” recuse herself from the Jussie Smollett case, her office said in a statement Thursday, explaining that Foxx used the term "recuse" in a "colloquial" sense rather than a legal sense when she left the case in February.

>Foxx announced Feb. 19 that she was leaving the case, clarifying later that her decision stemmed from her contact with a relative of Smollett. But Thursday's statement said Foxx's decision was not based "on any actual conflict of interest," implying that Foxx was concerned about the appearance of a conflict.
>“Instead, in an abundance of caution, she informally separated herself from the decision-making over the case and left it to her First Assistant State’s Attorney Joe Magats, a 29-year veteran prosecutor," the statement added. "Although we used the term ‘recuse’ as it relates to State’s Attorney Foxx’s involvement in this matter, it was a colloquial use of the term rather than in its legal sense.”

>On Wednesday, Fox News obtained an internal email from Foxx's office that asked assistant state's attorneys to dig for any examples to bolster Foxx’s claim that the dropped charges in the Smollett case weren’t as uncommon or shocking as they seemed.
>Earlier Thursday, Fox News learned that the City of Chicago delivered a letter to Smollett's legal team, seeking reimbursement for $130,000 in costs related to the investigation. The dropping of all charges against Smollett had prompted backlash from Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson as well as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who called the decision a “whitewash of justice.”
>President Trump also weighed in on the controversy Thursday, announcing that the FBI and Justice Department would review the case. On Twitter, he called it “an embarrassment to our nation.”

>Suburban Chicago police chiefs call on prosecutor Kim Foxx to resign
>A group of suburban police chiefs as well as the police union on Thursday called on Kim Foxx, the prosecutor whose office abruptly dropped charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, to immediately resign.

>The heads of three suburban Chicago police chiefs’ associations, which represent dozens of chiefs throughout the area, said they took “no confidence” votes against Foxx this week.
>All three organizations voted for Foxx, who as Cook County State’s Attorney oversees prosecutions in the city of Chicago and inner ring suburbs, to resign.

>About 30 suburban police chiefs announced the associations' call for Foxx to step down at an news conference organized by the union.
>Kevin Graham, the Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police’s president, said that the Smollett case was the last straw in a long list of grievances that members of the city’s 13,000 officer police force have had with how Foxx has carried out her duties since being elected in 2016.
>He cited officers’ frustration that Foxx was too frequently allowing suspects who allegedly assaulted police officers to be let go without being charged.
>“This didn’t start with Jussie Smollett,” Graham said. “This started when we wanted to try and make sure that when officers received a battery in the performance of their duties that the felony charges would be placed. And we continually had problems getting those charges approved.”

>In a statement, Foxx dismissed the police chiefs call for her step down.
>“I was elected by the people of Cook County to pursue community safety, prevent harm, and uphold the values of fairness and equal justice,” Foxx said. “I’m proud of my record in doing that, and I plan to do so through the end of my term and, if the people so will it, into the future.”

>Kim Foxx's chief ethics officer, integrity unit director resign following Smollett controversy

>Two ranking executives inside the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office have submitted their resignations — including State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s chief ethics officer, April Perry, whom Foxx cited as the person who advised her to “recuse” herself from the Jussie Smollett case that has rocked the Chicago office, Fox News learned Thursday.
>Mark Rotert, the director of the office's Conviction Integrity Unit, has also submitted his resignation, according to a Foxx spokesperson. Perry and Rotert are scheduled to work their last days on the job in May.

>A grand jury indicted the actor on 16 counts in early March. Foxx's office dropped the charges about three weeks later, explaining that Smollett was offered "deferred prosecution" because he forfeited his $10,000 bond and performed some community service. Much of the legal community has rebuked Foxx’s explanation including the National District Attorneys Association and the Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association which concluded that Foxx "fundamentally misled the public" and should have recused her entire office from the case.

>In media interviews, Foxx revealed it was Perry who advised her to recuse herself and touted Perry as the office’s first ethics officer. However, her office later had to clarify that Foxx recused herself only in the "colloquial" sense -- not what was accepted as the standard legal recusal which would involve her entire office, and the appointment of a special prosecutor.
