Tirek only betrayed Discord after witnessing was an unfaithful, selfish piece of shit he was (just like his treacherous brother), since he seemed to legitimately believe if you take his word for it that ponies were simply grooming Discord to be complacent through their "friendship", until the mane sixes' reactions disproved of this theory.

Discord, on the other hand, knowingly abandoned all of his friends to the "mercy" of some demon that just crawled out of hell, just to jump back on the villain bandwagon.
