And thus being the reason of the downfall of a lot of civilizations before.
I don't know what you guys think about this.
If you pay attention, Mexico might be a great example of those issues with which solidify our points.

I don't subscribe to conspirators being to blame for the world. The people are larger in number and if they decide to not care, they get what they earned themselves. Conspirators can leverage this, but the people decide their own fates by inaction.
I also have a suspicion that the modern world is more toxic and so people feel more slothful.
