>>169392>What was it like?In a word, chaotic. But it was a fun kind of chaos, the kind you'd come back to watch every day with a fresh bag of popcorn.
I admit I missed some of the earlier fandom happenings, since I didn't start watching pone until after it got big, but I remember pony shit leaking onto /b/ in February 2011 and how the halfchan mods prioritized Official Pony Thread purges over removing the cp dumps for a few weeks. Then there was the brony explosion all over the internet that everyone knows about, and True Capitalist Radio of course, the Solar Empire and New Lunar Republic and some other things I wasn't around for, but the real fun started after /mlp/ was founded.
In 2012 and 2013, and even into 2014, the autism of the nor/mlp/eople was unparalleled. People always talk about IWTCIRD and fluffy ponies, Tracy Cage this and >rape that, but there was so much more crazy shit going on than what you see in the token few caps always reposted in memory threads. Just off the top of my head:
>rarifags and dashfags constantly at each others' throats>daily reminder from /v/>/mlp/'s status as a virtually untrollable board in 2012>hourly "I don't understand the appeal" threads>raids from other boards every time a pony reference found its way into something they liked>grudging respect from those same other boards at the quality of /mlp/'s writefaggotry>Strelnikov and his magical adventures on Ponychan>RainboomCrash tumbling down>Sunhawk, aka the designated shitting tripcode>almost monthly raids on deviantart>the time Seth actually went to bed>Final Draft and the implosion of Everfree Network>the /mlp/ autism exploration group, which set off into Second Life and was never heard from again>Zephyr the petfag of /ptfg/, and his story which led to Please Kidnap Me General and a tripfag, Head Pet Angel, getting fucking murdered>the founding of Celestianism and that guy who slit his wrists over a bowl of salad as an offering>Powershy and the /mlp/ drawthread civil war>the united effort against invasion from leddit-tier Pony Thread Simulator fags>the days of mourning over Twilicorn and Equestria Girls>The Faustening, followed by the Scruffening, and everything was ruined forever>the board writing its own series of Daring Do book trilogy and publishing it on Amazon>Mama Faust's thank you card for visiting that had porn in it, which was left uncensored on Equestria Daily for an entire day before anyone noticed>Sam Hyde back when he was Scammy Sam, trying to kickstart a pony dating sim called Dark Skyes>Mando's pedophilic tendencies before he got married to Betty Spaghetti>Tulpa shit, Milky, Ass Worship>Snowdrop and her two extra holes>Double Rainboom, that piece of shit>one anon who died and saw his waifu in the afterlife before coming back to shitpost about itAnd a hundred other things I know I'm forgetting, but I'd need to dig through my old hard drive to think of them.
Semi-related, I'm surprised by just how much old /mlp/ stuff is archived on Derpibooru.Old /mlp/ was often called /b/ with ponies at the time, and not without reason. At the same time, the massive volume of content, combined with pony's ability to piss people off at a glance, meant that there was always something to talk about, or someone to harass.
But like any good shitshow, it just couldn't keep going at full steam forever, and eventually, /mlp/ was subjugated by hotpocketeers.
There's still popcorn to be had here and there, and plenty of things have happened since 2013, but that was the year of Twilicorn. Few shitstorms would be able to rival that, and autistic shitstorms were /mlp/'s lifeblood. Plus, the show's changes meant not just the bandwagonfags were leaving, but plenty of actual fans started bleeding off and everything eventually stabilized at the slow trickle rate you see today.
One of the exceptions is Derpibooru, which for all its faults still gets as many uploads per day as it always has, or at least that's what site metrics say. So take solace, for people still praise the pony puss, despite everything.
