as far as i can tell the negative milestones were: Twilights wings, Candyass, EQG, Glimmer, small Jim taking over, Candyasses baby, gay changelings and now the SJW School.

Season 2's candyass bullshit was mandated by Hasbro, so what did Faust and her friends do? They showed us the shit wedding they needed to have, introduced an interesting villain in the form of Chrysalis, and put effort into making the episode fun.
Season 3's ending was mandatory, Twilight HAD to get wings, so the episode tried to convince us she'd earned them, and the ending tried to make us proud of how far Twilight's come.
EQG was shit. Cancerous idiot-plot shit. Second film redeemed the concept and turned Shimmer from a shit villain into an understanding and pretty good hero, but introducing human Twilight was a mistake, so the whole concept is now dragged down by the writers wanting Shimmer to hand the protagonist role off to somepony who isn't ready for it, or magic, or anything her pony self is. Human Twilight is just a lesser Pony Twilight, and that's all the writers are willing to let her be. Same goes for her mane-six friends, they're lesser versions of the ponies we love.

When the dumbasses took over, things got less good, but Faust's friends tried their hardest to make the shitty editorial mandates work.

Then, those writers were fired and replaced with sycophant freelancers who don't even bother to watch MLP before writing episodes for it. Applejack's a stupid hick who hates all fruit except apples and can't manage her farm sensibly now, Twilight's another bland Ruby Rose-tier protagonist, Fluttershy's a manipulative bitch who made Discord emotionally dependent on her, and so on.

Of course, the change in creators mean these new seasons of MLP are about as canon as Dragonball GT was.

The decline in MLP didn't start when Hasbro started saying "Include this, or you're fired". It started when the writers stopped trying to do interesting/creative things with the mandates, and stopped trying to make good episodes around them.

I think it's all opinions. I've enjoyed the show, each season having a few episodes I like and dislike.

The show was always a commercial for a toy line, but s3 is definitely where it started its rapid decline due to a lack of care on part of the staff and heavy handed executive meddling.

For me the show fluctuated in quality but was almost always fun to watch, and I had fun. It stopped being fun and more of a chore around half way into season six, and I stopped almost immediately but for whatever reason I still stick around and force myself to try and watch a episode or premier. I think it stops being good when it stops being fun, it doesn’t feel like a cute ponies doing cute things but a political commercial for toys. But IMMO

Many say season 3 but for me it had to be season 6. Sure season 3 wasn't the grandest season ever with only 13 episodes and a forced last episode that made no sense, I thought seasons 4 and 5 were still a fun time. They were more serious than seasons 1 and 2 but there were still plenty of enjoyable episodes with the mane six still retaining what made them them I really loved the season 5 opener where they fucking denounced communism, a real redpill to many girls everywhere I think . Season 6 though was an absolute trainwreck with new writers that no idea on the source material they were working with, making Glimglam from a character with possible potential into a boring soulless mary sue who has WAY more power than she should, episodes that contradict shit that happened earlier in the show's life, many episodes were boring as fuck, etc. Season 7 was a slight improvement but it was still a trainwreck and I still havent forgot the episode where the writers fucking trash their own fanbase cause "cmon give us a chance, we are working so hard" Now the show is leftist propaganda that completely forgot all that it was and should be shot to be put out of its misery.

Gas the writers, Faust did nothing wrong!

It was about when the Brony Civil War broke out in early 2013 after Alicorn Twilight and Equestria Girls were revealed just weeks after eachother. Two different seriously controversial things.
I wouldn't be able to tell you if the war ever "ended", but it was the death knell. Season 2 might have been the peak for the fandom and it slowly gets worse after that, despite season 4 and 5 being pretty great.

Now this is debatable, but both of those turned out alright in the end. Being a Princess didn't really do much to Twilight's character other than her participating in some royal duties every so often, and Equestria Girls might outlast FiM itself if it stays popular enough. Sunset Shimmer is a great character too. Widely loved.

I stopped watching right before the end of season 5 and never got around to catching up. I've even talked about wanting to catch up on this site. After seeing what the last couple of seasons have been like though, I'm glad I didn't. It's like Spongebob and The Fairly Oddparents although Spongebob eventually became good again: it was an excellent show for the first few seasons, but it's run its course and keeping it alive is doing more harm than good to its reputation. Just let it die.

I haven’t watched it myself, but from what I’ve heard from people who still watch Spongebob, Shephen Hillenburg (the show’s original creator) came back in season 10 as executive producer and the quality went up significantly. It’s not as good as the early seasons, but it’s the best it’s been in a long time.

I personally say so that that the original show, without corporate decisions in their story like Twilicorn, ended by s2 finale or even s3, but even with it's mistakes, s4 and s5 managed to maintain properly after all the damage control. Hell, for me, s5 achieves to get in the same level as s1 and 2. It has chapters with amazing quality that remark some of the best of the show in my opinion.

I feel that the writing declining, as you remarked with the new hollow writers, it's exactly in the s5 finale "The Cutie Remark", with the forced and rushed plot of Starlight Glimmer being redeemed after all she did. After that came the problems of s6, with now having Glimmer episodes, with lackluster development, flanderized characters, season premieres, finales and the overall story becoming more meaningless and dull in the process, etc., the usual thing after a show goes for too long. At least s7 recovered the show for a while, but s8 seems to suffer the same as s6.

I like you, and yes, S4 and S5 had some great episodes. The map dynamic is one of the reasons why s6 was so lackluster: They had story opportunities that were wasted because they didn't get to explore more unknown and different places over Equestria that could be interesting to develop (s7 did that more) or change the character interaction from just a pair to three ponies or even just one, make something to show us how characters behave in unknown and noteworthy places.
