The other option was outright replacement, which wouldn't be considered moral due to the universality of Christianity. On another note, in reply to some general notions in this thread, "pagan" is a crypto-jew term of insulting "anyone who does not submit to judeo-bolshevik notions of religious conflict" and anyone who identifies by it is either ignorant or mentally retarded. Sometimes both. Non-abrahamic belief systems were well-respected and understood by the societies that created human civilization/technology as we know it today. Babylon, old Persia, Macedonia, Greece, the Roman Empire, and the Japanese Empire to name a few well-known examples.

It's a move done to solidify one's political position at the cost of his society's cultural and social fabric.
