>A woman died of her injuries after being struck by a Uber self-driving vehicle in Arizona, police said on Monday, and the ride hailing company said it had suspended its autonomous vehicle program across the United States and Canada.
>The accident in Tempe, Arizona, marked the first fatality from a self-driving vehicle, which are still being tested around the globe, and could derail efforts to fast-track the introduction of the new technology in the United States.
>At the time of the accident, which occurred overnight Sunday to Monday, the car was in autonomous mode with a vehicle operator behind the wheel, Tempe police said.
>“The vehicle was traveling northbound … when a female walking outside of the crosswalk crossed the road from west to east when she was struck by the Uber vehicle,” police said in a statement.
>A spokesman for Uber Technologies Inc said the company was suspending its North American tests. In a tweet, Uber expressed its condolences and said the company was fully cooperating with authorities.

Self driving cars don't have to be perfect. They just need to be better than the assholes on their cell phones.

there are more people going to die from self driving cars in the future. its inveitable. still, i am willing to believe that some time in the distant future, robot cars will be the better drivers.

I dont know how many people have died in mechanized driving since the 19th century, but i am willing to believe its more than will ever die from robot cars.

Oh, don’t worry. They will get better. And when you start to trust them, then there will be an “accidental” driving off the cliff. It would be unfortunate, but the victim was super racist, so no big deal, no harm to (((our goals))).

It’s a disaster waiting to happen, in my opinion.

the CIA is already killing people with computerized cars. of course this is going to be abused. by the producers of the cars, by the government, independent hackers. This is the future we chose. I am not saying Robot Cars are perfect, but it is what is going to be around the corner. Unless we erect a fascist world order and prevent the jews from producing the downfall of white society.

What I distrust about self driving cars isn't the technology itself but who owns it and how they plan on implementing it. I was basically in favor of the idea when I first heard about it because I envisioned a system that's basically like the one we have now, where everyone owns their own car, except that the cars would be self-driven instead of driven by their owners. As far as I can tell though the companies developing this technology envision a world where cars are either owned by the city they operate in, or owned directly by Uber or Google, and people just summon them via smartphone apps to get around. Presumably privately owned manually operated cars would be phased out for "safety" reasons. This is troubling because it makes people completely dependent on either the government or Uber for transportation. Presumably too these cars would only operate within the boundaries of their respective cities, making it more complicated for people to travel cross country.

That basically sums up my feelings as well. I feel the same way about other similar topics such as those "amazon echo" snooping devices and cloud computing in general.

In my experience, our sense of distrust is very common among most people IF you explain to them how the technology works. Their support of such technology is almost entirely driven by ignorance and fancy marketing spin.

For example, cloud storage. When uninformed, the average normie loves the idea of the cloud. They can store all of their pictures and videos on THE CLOUD and they don't need to worry about running out of space or losing them if they lose their phone. What's not to love? But ask them if they know precisely what the cloud is, and they'll probably answer that they don't. Inform them that the cloud is simply "someone else's computer" and that they only have their word that they're not violating your privacy, and suddenly they're dramatically less keen on this whole cloud storage thing. They're probably in a rush to pull their nudes off of the cloud ASAP.

In the field of advancing technology, smart devices, and the "internet of things", it is important to remember that truth and knowledge are our allies while deception, ignorance, and fancy marketing are the allies of the globalist organizations like Google.

Keep your friends and family informed about how these emerging technologies work.

I never even understood the point of cloud devices. Unlimited photo and video space sounds okay but what else is there for it to do? Talk and tell you stupid jokes while the CIA collects every bit of information it receives? Maybe I'm missing something here but if a person was wanting to store lots of data, why can't they get external hardrives and the sort, if someone wants to do it the hardisk drive way, hardisk drives are dirt cheap today. At best I see the cloud as nothing but a gimmick, we all ready know what its really for. Maybe its because I'm not a normie so its hard for me to fall for tricks like that.

But we all know the goal of self driving cars. Its to prevent people from having independence to travel where they want to limiting their ability to drive and limit where they can go. In a perfect world self driving cars sound nice but this sure as hell aint no perfect world.

Cloud storage is nice for having offsite backups in the event that the original was destroyed through some disaster.

Ideally the cloud will be at least a pair of synced machines at two separate sites. Synced machines that YOU the user own and control. Not machines owned by google or amazon.

Now the overhead of creating your own cloud might be beyond some users, so it makes some sense that some companies would offer access to their cloud as a service. IMO it's not inherently wrong to take up the offer to use someone else's cloud. But I would immediately consider the security and privacy of anything placed on someone else's cloud to be suspect. If you're storing data that isn't really private or otherwise confidential, then that can be fine. It's the blind faith in a foreign cloud that's a problem.

There's nothing inherently wrong with using someone else's cloud service, you just have to understand how it works on some level so you know what you're getting. It's good to use as a backup or a way to transfer files, or if you've got a project you're working on across multiple machines where you need to always have the most current version accessible. For primary storage or anything sensitive you should always use local storage though, ideally backed up on optical media in case your hard drive breaks or something.

Self driving cars does seem like a solution looking for a problem. We've known how to do automated transport for a long time, just build a rail-like system that is separated from regular traffic and none of this fancy and fallible tech is necessary, and the legal issues won't be there either.

>>130451
>Synced machines that YOU the user own and control.

There's Owncloud for those who want to keep their data their own. Does storage, calendar and contacts syncing and the other things you'd expect.
I think there are Raspberry Pi images that are ready to run even. That, plus an external drive, would make for a reasonably priced "cloud storage solution" under your control and even offsite backup if you have somewhere to put it.

Fucking this. Just update and automate the monorail and subway systems.

There's still a problem of going from one city to another, especially in places as large as the U.S. At least with automated cars, they can do a similar program to what Rent-a-Car places do - trade cars between cities whenever there are travelers that cross state lines.
