How accessible is it?

If by accessible you mean how installable it is, it's okay. When you boot from a CD, it takes you through an installer like Windows that gives you as many options as you need. Just be careful if dualbooting, as I tried dualbooting an older version of Mint last year on a new computer from a Linux-friendly manufacturer and it didn't take. Had to use a cloned drive a couple times to keep the Windows partition around. I'd recommend dualbooting just in case you need another OS, but it's no walk in the park. I'd assume a clean install should be a breeze.
If you mean how different it is compared to the norm of Windows/Mac, it's a bit more terminal-heavy than either but still, in my opinion, the best of both. The file explorer for Mint, especially, feels like somebody mashed Windows and Mac together. Most of the time what you need software-wise is in the software manager. Even when installing from the terminal it's a command copypaste job with very little hassle. If you're semi-casual like me, it's not much of a jump from Windows.
My advice if you really want to use Linux is to put an .iso of a flavor that works for you on a thumb drive or burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can try it out without having to make permanent changes to you computer, namely your hard drive. Don't like it? Don't use it.
Do some of you own research though, as I'm no wizard.
