I've been going on the occasional Netflix binge, but it's getting hard to ignore the shitty elements in the shows I see lately.

Specifically, I'm seeing the Punisher series. Literally every one of the "white male" characters of european ethnicity is either an ineffectual pathetic weasel, or evil. I mean, to an astonishing degree.

The main actor obviously has some kind of middle-eastern background. That was a bad sign, and was why I shyed away from the series for a while. But, I decided to give it a chance to prove my pessimism wrong.

I wasn't wrong. Hell, they even go out of their way to make some really clumsy propaganda with this fat white american christian slob character. First, he's one of only two white characters in the returning veteran's group therapy scenes. They have him say "white christians are the only group that suffers" stuff, 2nd amendment stuff, they have him talk way too much about his war stories from vietnam, which turn out to be faked, they make him a lying coward, etc..

For fuck's sake. I'm no fan of the "white christians should get special treatment" idea, but it takes a pretty willfully ignorant kind of cuntery to not see that there's social, legal, and policy-based treatment that objectively treats that category of citizen differently.

The point I'm at right now in the series, they're making a sensation of the "white boys that listen to fat old white bigots are the real violent threats to society" narrative.

The propaganda and social brainwashing is clearly baked into the DNA of shows like this. From the casting, character writing, and even the plotlines.

Is there /more/ propaganda in shows nowadays, or are they just getting lazier with it?

Honestly, this is just going to drive me to watch things like Anime as my media diet instead of this garbage. Even when Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex had a one-off villain show that, during WW 3 or 4, Canada's military committed some of the worst war crimes. Particularly going into villages and skinning people alive, leaving the survivors to tell the story to demoralize them. This made the villain of the week go crazy. He immobilized people's bodies, routed their vision through his own eyes, and forced them to watch him skin a t-shirt shaped chunk of skin off their torso.

Even when GiT:SAC did that, it still felt like it was done with more respect and goodwill than with what's happening now in stuff that's made more locally.
