Let us come together and help each other expand our personal playlists by sharing specific songs you think should be featured on anyone's playlist. Go by genres or specific artists if you want, anything goes long as it is music.

To get this going I'll suggest a few.

The singer reminds me of G-man from Half-life.

I'll never stop shilling the Celeste (2018 game) soundtrack for as long as I live.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1rwAvUvvQzQ

Some great workout music would definitely include Xurious, Cybernazi, and Mr. Bond (personal favorites from Bond are Where'd You Go, Changes, Smoke a Schlomo, and Fashout).

For chill or casual workouts/outings, I love the DEADBOLT (PC) soundtrack, especially I Am Become Death and Ashes To Ashes To Ashes. For cultural enrichment I like Golden Dawn, Paddy Tarleton and Byron de la Vandal (Songs of Lamentation is hard to find but To Keep and To Bear is a good pick from there)

Sorry for being skimpy with links. Too tired and lazy to seek everything out. But look that stuff up.

Me: "Anyone got a good playlist?"

You: *drops playlist*

Me: *Nervous* "T-that's a good playlist."

I listened to Lindsey Stirling years ago and I did so often till I'd played her songs to bits, then I suddenly stopped listening to her and forgot her. It is a sin in of itself. Same goes for Evanescence; awesome rock band.

Thanks for introducing me to two musicians, Bloodletting and Grace Potter, news to me. Which is sort of a sidewinder to me because I usually search for new songs and groups for hours at a time. Spend hours each week just delving through gigabytes after gigabytes to find sweet tunes.

My new suggestions won't be about horsecocks but something arguably better (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0e7V2hzqI0).

>Sorry that I took my time responding to you and anyone else.
No problem. I am starting to emotionally exhaust myself on music anyway. Talking of such, I can't recommend enough that you spend some time torturing your soul with Tristania until you grok them. They are a kind of anti-music, they seem to specialize in being discordant and disruptive. They have no interest in hypnotizing you with music. Their music is more like a movie, where you start is not where you end up. Once you expand your ability to appreciate them all other music seems childish and repetitive. And that is very interesting contrast to experience. Also I think I need to stalk Vibeke Stene now.

Also I want to share a rare gem with you that took me a long time to track down after hearing one song on a amateur internet radio station. This band is a one album wonder which nearly no one knows of. They are in the same class as you might expect from me (girly and bass) but everything is muted down, the symphonic part becomes just a 3 piece band, the growling male back singer avoids reaching growling, the soprano girl mostly stays away from the very high notes, the over production becomes more garage band and therefore more intimate. The band is called SexonE and an internet search only turns up 2 pages, an old MySpace page and the album on Spotify (they never made it to YouTube even!). The last few songs have the guitar twang that I think you will enjoy also. So I will attach them to this post as a thank you to you for the sharing and enjoyment you have given to me. :)

>I don't know about you but I always find myself going back to Blues Saraceno and dark country, or country in general.
Can't get into the country music honeyed voiced men. It has to be something more like Type O Negative or https://youtu.be/1w7OgIMMRc4 or https://youtu.be/Ij99dud8-0A / https://youtu.be/ZtO687uyKVw or https://youtu.be/SwYN7mTi6HM or https://youtu.be/1VaEdKwXJhM but this is probably just looking for soprano girls in male singers. And since I am being cheesy nostalgic, lets go all the way https://youtu.be/zlSFmotba2I

My appreciation is anchored in female sopranos and gut wrenching bass. Not necessarily together. This means I can (sometimes embarassingly) appreciate mainstream girly artists like the Spice Girls or Britney. :O (make it stop!)
https://youtu.be/XS088Opj9o0
https://youtu.be/4f42gSQwSig
But really its all about finding the angelic, and that's even better when you find it in the wrong places, because contrast is fun!
or the opposite: https://youtu.be/NPcyTyilmYY

The nadir of the bass side for me is Type O Negative.

>Julian Winding - The Demon Dance
Nice, the bass part. Anything grungier? Do you have any good recommendations for dubstep? I have never found any good "bands" but it should be possible.... there is some good stuff in >>165258 but I have no idea what they are.

>RUDE - Eternal Youth
Magical. You've made me re-question if my ironic (?) appreciation of Japanese heavy metal is as ironic as I assume. I want 8 hours of music like this to sleep to! It matches my appreciation of high and low frequency.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdvdopWuQpHjpvuG3i3nr4Q

>Monster Magnet - Space Lord
Awesome but something is missing from many songs to make it unique.

>Greta Van Fleet
Okay now that is unique and odd. The guitar is unique and the guy sings like a girl, which is confusing enough to be on my play list.

Found this while playing your songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdHG-gnVZPc

Rare music should be shared, rare and good music is a must to be shared. Feels wonders to expand my rather meager music library, only 667 GB, with something worth listening to.

Thanks for donating to the mountain peasant's library of euphonic sounds. May Epona mend and nurture your soul.

>Grunge 'n' dubstep

There's a lot of good electronic music using female vocals, some singing in soprano. I didn't find any soprano singer, but I found this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4x9YyRnFDE

I could drop Nirvana if you want grunge, something I refrain from since it's one of the more obvious picks if you want grunge. Maybe this song is something for you, it has one of history's best intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySjXFjLTagQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt7kmByAPxI (Don't listen to this whilst wearing headphones)

>Monster Magnet

I think it's because the melody returns to its initial stage without ever, in its more intense parts, adding enough variance with the drums. Still, that group is good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm38Ojh61lY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD_R8K89Z8I

I think the bands above suffers from the same issue of sound as Monster Magnet: despite nice listening, they never get off the ground in this song. Perhaps, this is the issue with American rock and metal, especially newer bands who love using heavy riffs, growling, and bass but then the dirtier vocals drop and you're treated to a whinny faggot who's voice is ramping up on the 90s emo-kid bullshit vibrato on-the-verge-of-crying or smooth-for-a-hundred-miles radio host voice. Still, it can be good.

>LIV KRISTINE - Love Decay

Nice drums and guitar.

>NiN vs Garbage - Closer to a #1 Crush

I love odd sounds.

>Prince - Purple Rain
>Gary Moore - Still Got The Blues

Always good, these songs are eternal. That moody guitar could slay Mars.

>Living Colour - Cult Of Personality

To me, merit outweighs everything. The issue is, as I've seen many point to, is that they as a group is dysfunctional and a burden. On an individual basis, I give everyone the same treatment and a chance. Let us avoid too much politics and emotional based racism (Not accusing you).

>TEMPTATION - The Tea Party

Thanks for this, the sound is like flypaper.

>Red Hot Chili peppers

Of course, can't forget RHCP. That would be a sin.

>I'm lying on the cold marble floor... at least I hope I am.
>My body in stark contrast is on fire, from head to hoof, it has completely yielded to the impact
>In the distance is muffled sounds, I tried looking once, bad idea.
>Right now my plan is to never move again, never open eyes and drift away.
>It's not working... why does everything suck?

>There is the clattering of hoofs on the floor, interrupting my sleep that never comes
>Can't they just leave me alone?
>There is a pull on the lower half of my body, but I can't work out what it means.
>That is until it becomes shatteringly clear, sharp pain shoots up from hoof to spine to brain.
>I scream but actually that just makes everything hurt even more, I stifle my own scream.
>A voice sparkles in from the distance, "I am so sorry, I don't know what to do." I think maybe she is sobbing a little, or her voice is quavering. It's hard to tell and my mind is so slow. Can I sleep yet?
>More of my former body is being tugged and poked and I muster up my anger and fear to make a sound.
>Stop. Well it was meant to stop but my tongue seems to be stuck to the roof of mouth. I slowly move it and my jaw around to try and free it, eventually succeeding. "STOP!"
>The twinkling voice yelps in surprise. The tugging on my body stops. Sleep?
>My body tingles, probably a spell. I fade out. Thank the Heavens.

>Consciousness returns. Well that sux. I think it's dark. I open my eyes a fraction, but it looks the same as when they are closed. Also my eyeballs hurt. How can that happen?
"So you are awake."
>Damnit. I don't bother answering as the statement does not need one. I feel numb, but I won't be testing it by moving. I let the darkness swallow me.
>Or I would have but my tormentors have other plans.
"I am NOT your tormentor" says a silky deep voice.
>Sure, whatever.
"Now this will hurt but it is necessary"
>Sure thing tormentor.
>My left fore-leg is raised up, an exceedingly bad idea which makes me wish to spit venom, but I can barely breath, so venom is not on the menu. I have a dim memory of seeing a bone poking through the skin on that leg, an exceedingly worrying view, followed by, oddly, fascination and cold dread. Some past memory I can't quite place.
>My leg is snapped straight, before I can scream I faint. Thank the Heavens, I am gone again.

"I need you to stay awake"
>Why
"We can't do the repairs while you are unconscious, We need the feedback to fix you properly."
>Fix me? I want to laugh.
"You are very funny, did you know that?" says the velvet voice.
>Unlikely.
>My body begins to be stretched, that can't be good?
"I am straightening up your spine, hang in there."
>Hang.. surely not the best bedside manner while fixing spines... allegedly.
>Some bones snap, hopefully, back in place, but who knows? Pain shoots, but this is almost normal now. I think my mind is breaking. Maybe that will help.
"Okay, we might be getting somewhere"
>With my mind breaking?
"No, silly, with fixing you after your accident."
>Accident? I recall the image of my jutting bone, and a bright flash and a explosion. Suddenly memory falls upon me. I immediately flee from it in horror. No, not again, let me sleep.
"Relax as best you can, things will get better"
>I'd mock, but that takes effort. So I don't.
>I am rolled over onto my other side. I notice with detached interest it was less painful than expected.
"Lets fix this last leg"
>Sure why not. Shooting pain, which slowly fades into dullness.
"Okay, okay, good. Now try wiggling it."
>I wiggle it, after all I have nothing else to be doing right now.
>A velvet soft laugh rings out which makes me smile, which hurts my jaw. Well that sux.
"Okay, lets take a look at that"
>A tingling occurs around my jaw and blue purple glow can be seen through my eye lids. I move my mouth more and it feels a bit better. I sigh, contemplating for a small moment that I can relax.
"You can relax, you are safe here."
>Sure. I relax anyway. An audible sigh escapes into the echoing room.
"You are so dramatic aren't you?"
>I ponder swearing or ranting. But I am cut short be her laugh ringing out loudly. It startles me which causes an orchestra of pain to ripple through me. I remember my previous commitments to myself to not move ever again.
>She's still giggling.
"Would you like some water?"
>Yes.
>There is a small movement and then the clopping of hooves moving away. Good!
"Oh, I'm still here"
>Bad!
"The guard will get you some water."
>Guard? Oh yes, the Castle, the Throne Room, the explosion, the... no, no, no. Not again.
"What happened to you?"
>Don't think about it, just don't think about it. I call the black to snuff out the memories.
>She sighs.
"Okay, later then."
>Good.
>It seems the guard has returned.
"You'll need to sit up for the water."
>I weigh the pros and cons of water vs pain. She's laughing at me again. How mean.
"You can't lay there forever."
>A testable hypothesis! More laughter fills the room!
"You really can't live in the Throne Room forever."
>Hmmm. That does seem rather unlikely. What is the most fitting place to die, exactly?
"You won't be dying. You are healing rather well considering the damage you have."
>Well that sux.
"I am going to help you sit up." she says in a very business like fashion.
>My body moves by itself. I've incarnated as a puppet. More laughter.
"Please it's so hard to be empathetic, with your continual humor."
>Pretty sure I was not trying to be funny.
"You are a natural."
>A natural what? More muffled giggles.
>I am tormented up into a sitting position where my non-tormentor wants me to be. A cup brushes my lips so I open my mouth to take the water. But it tastes funny and has flakes in it. I am also trying to open my eyes but they are sticky and hard to open.
"You'll need to rinse the blood from your mouth and wash your face. We'll need to move you outside."

>I am lifted up, floating, I feel seasick on the rickety barge of her magic. She's muffling another giggle.
>A cloth is wiping my face as I am floated queasily. I squint and see myself passing through some ornate doors with delicate gold etching. The air is cold, too cold, but I don't care. I am set down on the grass.
"Rinse your mouth out here."
>I look over at the pony of shadows.. a loud burst of laughter issues forth.
"Oh please, We are both insulted and amused at the same time! Quite a feat!"
>We?
"We!"
>Oh it's Luna. Velvet blue, waving sparkling stars, pretty.
"Well now that's significantly better. Pleased to meet you."
>My spirits lift. Maybe things can actually get better. I hurt, but I hurt less. Also my legs might be working, but they complain bitterly. I rinse my mouth and spit bloody water on the well manicured lawn. Poor grass, sorry grass. Another little laugh.
"Good! Now perhaps you can be less morbid?"
>Some brokenness goes far deeper than bones. There is an audible pause in Her breathing. No laugh this time. Finally.
"Hmmm...." she trails off. "So what happened to you?"
>I shy away from thinking about it.
"Enough with this, tell me."
>I'm cold.
"Let's go in."
>Good.... Bad.
>I am picked up and placed on her back, spread eagled, lying stomach down along her spine. My heads is supported by her magic against her warm neck. Lovely. Ow, still sore all over.
>Her steps jar my aches and then she stops walking. I open my eyes again to see that we are floating. How sweet. We float back through the open door, across the Throne Room -- which has now been cleaned. That's nice. She giggles -- and down a hallway, in fact endless hallways, until we enter a room. The colors are awful, all bright pastels and gaudy gold. There is a bed full of way too much fluffy soft bed coverings, and overly decorated. I am placed in the bed and covers pulled up over me. Luna wipes my eyes and face again with a cloth making it easier for me to open them and see. The light of the room hurts my eyes and then the lights dim until I am comfortable. Her hair sparkles in the darkness and so does her moon collar. I just watch them for a time, wondering how does it happen.
"Magic."
>Of course.
"You need sleep."
>Finally some escape. I quickly close my eyes but I can tell I am not sleepy. Nothing ever works right. I open my eyes to see she is still sitting there. She is grinning. I am not sure if thats a good or bad thing.
"Not sleepy?"
>Damnit. "N-no."
"Oh so you can speak now?"
>"Y-yes."
>My jaw aches a little. Magical glow appears around it. I wiggle my jaw and the discomfort passes.
>"Thank you."
"You are welcome. The nights can be pretty boring. And you have been most entertaining."
>Figures. Pain as entertainment.
"No. You have the capacity to keep your humor in bad situations, a rare gift."
>Okay, whatever. However my face and heart betray me and I can't stop smiling. Having failed to remain aloof I change tactics, "Thank you, Princess."
"Call me Luna."
>"Thank you, Luna"
"Better. Do you know how often a pony with broken bones and internal bleeding crawls its way to Our Throne Room?"
>There has to be a snarky comment for this situation, but I can't find it. Oh wait.. "Twice?"
>She pauses. Her face darkens as I ponder the possibility of such happening when the Sisters fought.
"A long time ago," she says sternly.
>I feel bad, "Sorry, Luna"
"You know my story, should I not know yours."
>I am sure it was not a question. "I am not exactly sure what happened"
"Let's start at the beginning."
>I pretend that my neck is sore, but She rolls her eyes at me.
>"It started when I was in the antique shop, there was something called a couter. The shop keeper had no idea what it was. All he said was it has a time-link, and the power-cell was replaced with magic. I pretended to know what he meant and asked the price. It was only 3 bits. After I bought it he told me it was haunted. A haunted antique! He could had lead with that and got 4 bits! I left hurriedly before he changed his mind. The object was rectangular, and had a door that opened. It did not seem to do much but had an excessive amount of square buttons. Certainly very strange."
Luna is frowning and looking at me intently, "Go on."
>"Well, I found a knob on the side that made all the lights go on. The door was actually a window! And strange things were painted on it that changed. Definitely magic!"
Luna looks away, "Where is this device now?"
>"Destroyed."
"Good. Go on."
>She sits back down on the bed. And places her hoof on mine. Then she speaks softly.
"Please go on, it's alright."
>I pause, wonder what her reactions mean, but considering what happened, it makes sense.
>"I was afraid of it at first, and I was afraid that people would take it from me. So I found a safe hollow past the edge of the city, where no casual observer would see me. And I started to explore its magic."
Luna stands up suddenly, "An incredibly unwise move!"
>I smile, or is it a grimace. I lift a limp hoof, "A little late for warnings."
She smiles, sits down, "Go on."
>"Well it took me 3 days to get it to do something interesting. Since I knew it had magic I was not going to give up learning its secrets. I poked and prodded it with my hooves, snout, sticks, rocks, and eventually began to understand it. It was certainly odd, the language was a bit like ours but different, it discussed things that made no sense at all. Then I discovered something called YouTube. Much of it involved talking and complaining about various monsters, something called Trump seemed to be the most dangerous of all. When I got too hungry I would rummage in the forest for food. I did not wish ANYONE to know of my magical device. Then I found the music. This was much easier to understand. It was very enjoyable and way less confusing. And over time I found I liked the music that had a lot of low frequency instruments. I was in a window called mlpol which was very strange because they were discussing us!"

Luna paused, "WHAT?"
>"I know! It was so odd. I had to keep reading just to see what they had planned! But it again made no sense. They liked us and complained about us. I was baffled. But then at one of the places in there they mentioned the YouTube music. I saw this a chance to engage and learn from these strange creatures that live in the couter. Anyway as I was sharing and enjoying the music the weather in my secluded spot was acting strangely but I ignored it and continued my quest."
>Luna sighs and looks at the floor.
>"These creatures, or one of them gave me a link to a music and I made a dreadful mistake."
"What did you do...?"
>"I played it... the writing called it Goth Orchestral Industrial Dubstep."
>Luna stands up immediately, "YOU FOOL, you are dealing with forces larger than you can understand!"
>I am taken aback by her anger, I am hurt and confused. "I-I--" but really there is nothing that can be said to avoid knowing how foolish I was. "I played it, the skies above me began to darken, but I tried not to notice, it was so fascinating, I let it fill me, I let it into my soul and I-I- l-liked it."
>This is met with a sharp humph from Luna.
Through a tense jaw she says "Go on."
>"Well sky was dark, and tinged with orange fire..."
"Fire Wendigos."
>"Fire Wendigos? I-I- what? Those are just little fillies tales."
"No."
>No. Clearly not. I am such a fool!
>"I-- played the song, I liked it, I joined with it, and it with me. We were one, joined together across time and space. I invit--ted it here.. Above me the sky became a lurid orange and red glow, small ghost like horse-flames were spiraling all around me, above me. They smiled crazily... I tried to stop what was happening... but it was too late... the song played on, my heart filled with its red and black flames, and then came the fire ball... it barreled out of the sky hissing and spluttering with..." I pause, frightened at what had occurred. My eyes wet, I feel so guilty, emotionally devastated by my foolishness. I look up.. but rather than anger, she is smiling at me. Very odd. She touches my hoof.
"Go on."
>"The explosion shattered everything. I was totally gone. I remember sound so loud it was shaking my body. Light so bright even though I had covered my eyes. I remember all sense of direction and even the ground disappearing and then I was gone."
"You really don't want to mess with fire wendigoes."
>"Clearly. I woke up... who knows how long, later. I was at the edge of an impact crater. I spent quite some time waiting to die. But when it didn't happen. I had to think of a new plan. So I had to make it to somewhere with the skills to deal with these fire things. And here I am... Luna please help me."
>"I will, We will see that this never happens ever again! Now you can sleep."
>Her horn glows, I can't resist the sleep spell. She's soooo lovely. Maybe it was a good day after all.

Thank you for this story, made my day. You write with confidence. :P

I was looking at some dubstep, especially darkstep, metalstep, and other sub-genres of dubstep. I found these that I thought were good enough to add to my playlist. Three are compilations but there's a listing of each track used so you know which track you're listening to.

>The Binding of Isaac: Antibirth

Sinister intro supported by an organ (Or at least what goes for one) as a hook? Insta-like. I wonder in what kind of playlist this would fit, perhaps this song is for gaming only because I don't imagine myself running or working to it.

>Massive Attack - Teardrop

One of my favorites; the video could put the fright in Oden though.

It's hard to decide which one is better. Teardrop is good for relaxing or running to, Antibirth seems to be typical for gaming or just relaxing. Both are good, but I have to be honest that Teardrop can quickly lose its appeal because it is very contained in its expressions such as the singing is a strained whisper which can lose its dignity, I assume you can call it, within moments as well.

>Epic metal orchestral music. Check!

That band is strange. They have all the right components but something is off. They have been called 'pop' because they are so radio friendly. Took me ages to work out what the problem (at least to me) was. That latest album mashes everything together, you almost never get a low bass by itself or high frequency. They are always countering emotional highs or low somewhere in the 5+ layers of music overlaying everything. That means you never get to go on an emotional journey. The earlier albums are less overwhelmed in contradictory stuff.

Their first album has a good song in it with fantastic grindy guitar almost alone (Thank God!):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lwK7JDFz5I

Their second has an almost alone soprano (Thank God!):

Finally another person who likes Bowman! Haha. But yeah, love all those songs, even if Chain of Prospit is a bit repetitive even for faux-pop music.

>Are Apple Nasty still playing?
I wouldn't know. I looked up those two songs since I remember them vividly from when I was a groupie, but after Clint left and got involved in Christian rock I hadn't looked upon his former bandmates. I did see apparently the Drunken Peasants interviewed a member in regards to an upcoming 2016 tour. Didn't look into it too much though, I'd prefer to simply keep the memory preserved than get involved in the politics of a band I used to be acquainted and on good terms with.

Clint settled down, had a family, and seems to have abandoned his family's Facebook social-media dramatization in favor of giving e-sermons between Christian-rock-playing. Normally I'd ree at that, but really, if it makes him happy and hopefully chills the family out from their rampant nevertrump nonsense, then I'm all for it.

>Neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp, for example, discovered that sad music triggers chills more often than happy music. He argues that a melancholy tune activates an ancient, chill-inducing mechanism—a distress response our ancestors felt when separated from family. When a ballad makes us feel nostalgic or wistful, that evolutionary design kicks into gear.

>What’s interesting about Panksepp’s theory, though, is that chills don’t sadden most people. The experience is overwhelmingly positive. Recent research shows that sad music actually evokes positive emotions—sadness experienced through art is more pleasant than the sadness you experience from a bad day at the office.

>And this may hint at another theory. The amygdala, which processes your emotions, responds uniquely to music. A somber tune may activate a fear response in the amygdala, making your hair stand on end. When that happens, your brain quickly reviews whether there’s any real danger. When it realizes there’s nothing to worry about, that fear response becomes positive. The fear subsides but the chill remains.

>Avoiding politics

My bad, but I suspect that there's always that one person who'd start an argument over something trivial as music videos or songs with a clear mark of muh diversity or can be called a lower form of music. I wished to help that person's sensitivities; although, personally when it comes to music I simply don't care about the race of the person. Merit before all.

>Lana Del Rey

Her voice is regal.

>Wings of Emptiness

The guitar in this song is a nice treat served slow and bitter-sweet.

Ava Inferi certainly provides moody experiences and epic soundscapes. What more is that they're easy listening that you can just listen to or listen whilst doing something. Thumbs up for suggesting them.

> Excalibur

Great soundtrack; great movie — just great all around.

>Luc Arbogast

A primal experience.

>ELUVEITIE

They know how to do an intro. Nice use of the flute to provide the song with the feeling of having an ancient bond to ancient days. The flutist knew how to blow the shit out of that flute.

>Vikings

Haven't seen beyond the first season, but their soundtrack is a must to experience.

>Hunter of music

That sounds ehum very ambitious, to hunt down, as you put it, true Ghotic metal, using sopranos specifically, down to the origins of this genre.

What is your opinion of this compilation? Does it even match your goal?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkBRXIRhEhc

>Melodic Metal; The Third and the Mortal - Tears Laid in Earth
>Doom Metal; Estatic Fear - Somnium Obmutum

This is great listening. Thank you so much for digging this up and sharing.

>Female vocals accompanied by growling

Isn't this part of all kind of metal (Almost regardless of sub-genre) produced today? I've heard so many metal bands, foremost melodic or orchestral, having a singer with a smooth voice that falls into a growl to then level out in a smooth song. If I remember correct, I think this is derisively known as nu-metal or modern metal. Nothing wrong with it overall but at times I wonders if metal has deteriorated enormously the last twenty years or so. I blame Linkin Park and other similar bands for this. Or maybe I'm just wrong and a crank who is too invested in old school metal.

>Sinds of Thy Beloved - memories

I like how they play the drums in this song, a stiff and muted percussion with a, what I gather, midrange pitch instead of playing a drum accompaniment using high-pitched strikes (Splash cymbal, Ride cymbal or hi-hat — to mention a few) laced in-between quick and heavy beats.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6niFit62ss

>After forever

They're a good band, going to suggestion them to a friend and ask for his opinion on them. He's ridiculously picky in which metal group and genre he listens to, that's because he knows some musical theory, technique, and origins. I find it a bit pretentious, for me good music is good music and whether the particular genre is a bastardisation or not of a parent genre is to me just noise.

>After forever - Follow in the Cry

That intro is the best intro. :P

Pop? Maybe you're right that this is the problem because when I listen to them I experience them as timid, I think, which hampers their overall performance. A reason why I usually gravitate towards electronic music or older metal (Such as power metal), highs and lows are frequently used without being countered.

>>169091

Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido build songs in a beautiful fashion, they vary them in a way that can be described as happiness.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAfYbv39vWc

Even when their songs could best be described as sad or moody or contemplative I don't only experience them as such. To me, there is happiness and contentment in their creations. It is hard to explain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2rubrmEnYs

The electro-beat in this song is hypnotic, the padding is meditative and it isn't intrusive when the song blossoms into a pop-rock flair.

1993 - The Gathering - https://youtu.be/kOL3EnGdsZg - soprano 1:34 (best Martine van Loon!)
1994 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/rG5JKY89_mA - which sounds horrid but has soprano at 1:26! These guys are the most appreciated Goth Metal group later on.
1994 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/juR2FEYo1K0 - slightly better sounding but not much
1994 - The 3rd and the Mortal - everything including https://youtu.be/CL3-2XUYh-c - soft, metal, soprano, doomy, high soprano at 4:00
(1995 - Skunk Anansie - https://youtu.be/qQ7ZeSU8ZXM - this band is sometimes metal, rock, punk and softer but never quite Goth Metal but worth including, black female lead, also the first album has controversial racist related songs.)
1995 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/cJiBtaGM9gM - whole album TOP TIER GOTH
1995 - The Gathering - https://youtu.be/hGc28ZMQEh8 - TG experiment in a lot of ideas and this has industrial too. They get a new powerful female singer here. Most of this album is good!
(1996 - Skunk Anansie - https://youtu.be/xHGM1tTLEx0 - because Deborah Anne Dyer shows her voice here. And this list needs more diversity.)

1996 - Estatic Fear - https://youtu.be/wYNcXPh_3T8 - Doomy, growly, soft, symphonic, dogs and cats sleeping together, old fashioned, flutes, organ, cat stuck in tree, a stick, lute?, soprano 16:08, 32mins song!
1996 - Nightwish - https://youtu.be/iFeDoDrAEHs - THERE IS NO BETTER VOICE(S)! - Everything Nightwish with Tarja is good.
1996 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/ypZzor8I0Zs - All of this album, TOP TIER
1996 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/ci3EDj7P6Ks - All of this album too, TOP TIER
1996 - Draconian - https://youtu.be/oKQFI25aVuc - bad recording but at 3:54 flute and Susanne Arvidsson sings.
1997 - Paradise Lost - https://youtu.be/OpnQfJT-2a8 - haunting choir effect, slow doomy
1997 - Nightwish - https://youtu.be/M7-Cz0HHxaY - "Angels Fall First" album has a song called "Beaty and the Beast". All Tarja Nightwish is good stuff. We are at epic Goth/Symphonic at this point.
1997 - Sins of Thy Beloved - https://youtu.be/W3fUmd-5OZk - Doomy Goth, symphonic a bit, ghostly soprano or two, growls.
1997 - Tristania - https://youtu.be/7jhkUUHWug0 - with their first demo which includes "Cease to Exist". Awesome. Male/female choir effect. Whispering female the strong soprano. Riffs. This is remastered later.
1997 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/xizngTJ9h7E - Another good recording (EP).
1997 - The Gathering - https://youtu.be/zr3vAQaDL-s - good album with this song "Shrink" being Anneke van Giersbergen strong lead vocals, goth, doom, electronic. Because Anneke is SOO good the band falls into decline and lets her just sing after this album. ie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA2yGLYXP6I
1998 - SIns of Thy Beloved - https://youtu.be/OGws7l-F-3o - Nice squealing! Good album. Very gothy.
1998 - Tristania - https://youtu.be/9KYtZ6SRSGQ - Good album! Tristania best band! Those squeals!
1998 - Theatre of Tragedy - https://youtu.be/NOQS--sF9xY - Album "Aegis" the last time ToT is any good. D:
1999 - Paradise Lost goes electronic - you bastards! - no I won't link it!!
1999 - Estatic Fear - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiTSYQSKxbw - which has everything from soprano'ish to flutes, growling, metal and perhaps a chainsaw cutting down dandelions.
1999 - Draconian - https://youtu.be/BXTZRLIoScA - bad recording but Draconian is too awesome (later) to leave out, we get to hear Susanne Arvidsson.
1999 - Sins of thy Beloved - https://youtu.be/IpqfdPEYIWA - Most of the album is good.
2000 - After Forever - https://youtu.be/efu3YAfMDq0 - Whole album is great!
2001 - Tristania - https://youtu.be/U6ZDjDS72u0 - Operatic choir, metal, violins, soft, thras, growls, and everything else. Most of the album is good.
2001 - Tristania - https://youtu.be/U6ZDjDS72u0 - THE PERFECT ALBUM. The perfect song.
2001 - Sirenia - https://youtu.be/U6tQppyQeBo - Whole album awesome.
2002 - Draconian - https://youtu.be/NQSXfisSX6U - This band gets better as they age.
2003 - Epica - https://youtu.be/Rxaa1Si3CgI - Full symphonic.

I can't be critical of this work, good music is always appreciated. Even if it can be seen as setting free your inner autist.

I still owe you a reply for your long post. Probably tomorrow after I recover from autistic burnout :)

Oh some things you might like.

Xandria has an awesome album, it is when the band is still its pre-Theatre of Dimensions symphonic-cacophony but has gained their most awesome singer:
https://youtu.be/8GBcPMDqmdk?list=PLqayaMvS3xtIWnJJ2LIascHsFhvdYhM57 (whole album)

Also you like Sirenia and you seem to prefer male vocals, so how about the male version of Serenia:

More oomph to them. Strange they developed towards a more pop feel and easy listening.

It isn't that I prefer male singers but that most good songs do have a male lead singer. Also, I intentionally didn't suggest several obvious and less obvious bands with female lead singers. I reasoned that someone would mention them, and that is exactly what happened.

Here's a band I thought people would suggest much earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjL5apEyiig

I've always liked the Smashing Pumpkins, and from what I understand Corgan is a repentant Obama voter who has openly expressed contempt for SJWs and seems redpilled on other subjects. He's okay in my book.
