I heard it's quite interesting and geared towards a slightly more mature audience. I haven't actually read any of them, but they would be on the outskirts of canon (displaced by the show) as they have quite different story lines. If you're going to give any money to Hasjew though, better to get comics than toys.
I read a bunch of the main series a few years ago, remember finding them enjoyable.

Some of the comics are good, but they're mediocre as a whole. They also cycle through several different artists/art styles, which can greatly vary in quality. The artists put their OCs in stories, they did a "subtle" anti-Trump comic during the election (election of nice lady pony who can do no wrong vs. mean old rich guy who people like because he speaks his mind), and they sometimes go against canon (heck, the second arc of the entire series rewrites Nightmare Moon's origin story).
There are some good comics, but you'll have to look for them.
>>147171It's not perfect, but reading some of them were more enjoyable than watching the current show. Give it a shot, particularly some of the early ones. I know there's some controversy about an artist stealing fandom art and posting it as his own, but that's the only negative thing i'm aware of.
>>147171I love the official MLP comics tbh. I highly recommend giving them a try. + there's no SJW bullshit like in Marvel or other mainstream comic publishers.
>>147171I remember hearing people get mad over some OC-shilling bullshit
And I remember dropping them after that one where Twilight works in some grumpy bitch's library while singing "Call me mane".
>>147171Here are the comics that that really wow-ed me
#9 #10 the plot is simple Big Mac needs nails for his gazebo, the backrounds are what make it amazing
#11 #12 the love story of how cadence and shiny armor met. Heavy 80's theme with lots of references to that time. Well drawn
#17#18#19#20 a longer story more focused on the exploration of a portal to another dimension. I don't want to give spoilers but the plot is great.
All of these comics are illustrated by Andy Price who does amazing artwork throughout.
Some of them are cool if you are into the show, but they are biased as hell, just saying.
