Reasons because /mlp/ will never admit it. MLPFIM gives us an idyllic vision of a world that has certain kind of values and traditions anyone would like to cherish and protect. The fantasy aspect crossing with more than normal behaviors and values proper to Equestria are attractive. It's some kind of imaginary exit door, to be allowed to think like non-humans. To be no longer human ( the reason the furry fandom works ) and to put aside this sick world dominated by consumerism and absurdity.
Ponies puts a huge value in traditions
Ponies don't live in a democracy, it's a monarchy - at least in Equestria and in the Crystal Empire. and they're perfectly okay with it.
Ponies tolerates other races, zebras, but doesn't bring them in Equestria by force.
Equestria's society is built on laissez-faire capitalism and meritocracy. Each pony have a role, a task, a inherited know-how and will perpetrate this know-how. There can't be unemployment in this kind of society devoid of any form of social welfare, barely some roads and that's all. Every pony need to be smart and find the opportunity to do something with their life.
Ponies are all individuals, they do help eachother when it's necessary, and are all determined, when times comes, to fight for their country, defend their kingdom, and their princesses as much as their princess would give her life for them.
Ponies also don't need to watch TV, don't need internet, barely have radio and newspapers, lot of books, and yet they aren't living in the third world. What if everything we have and consume actually were artificial and pointless, are we really happy when we buy some plastic-silicon sandwich made in China?
This alone is true nationalism. So does it sounds silly to consider this world of ponies makes more sense than the politicized nonsense, overconnected world we live in today?
