/cyb/ - Cyberpunk Fiction and Fact

Cyberpunk is the idea that technology will condemn us to a future of totalitarian nightmares here you can discuss recent events and how technology has been used to facilitate greater control by the elites, or works of fiction

god, I hope so. space has been one of my favorite subjects ever since I was a kid, and now that the future of extraterrestrial colonization seems closer than ever, my dick's tingling for more.

I hope so, but it seems like most of the population cares more about paying for Shaniqua's 8 bastard children than heading to space. We are wasting too much money on worthless eaters.

A beaner just hopped the fence today
With Shaniqua on life support
Our jobs are all being outsourced away
And Shaniqua's on life support

We can't pay for no rocket ships
But Shaniqua's on life support
Ten years from now we'll be paying for this
While Shaniqua's on life support

You know, the man just upped my taxes last night
Cause Shaniqua's on life support
No roads, no research, no space flights
But Shaniqua's on life support

I wonder why she's still here?
Cause Shaniqua on life support?
Well i was already given her fifty grand a year
And now Shaniqua on life support

Taxes takin' my whole damn check
The terrorists make me a nervous wreck
The price of food is goin up
And if all that crap wasn't enough
A beaner just hopped the fence today
With Shaniqua on life support

Our jobs are all being outsourced away
And Shaniqua's on life support

With all that money i made last year
For Shaniqua on life support
How come I ain't got no money here?
Hmm, Shaniqua's on life support

You know I just about had my fill
Of Shaniqua on life support
I think I'll send these doctor bills
airmail special
(To Shaniqua on life support)

Sweet poem. Really communicates the the feeling of the country's situation well, although a bit repetitive.

Ah, interesting was to parody it.
In the end, they're both poems about being dissatisfied with the allocation of tax money.

IDK I hope.
But have an OC Solar Eclipse photo
Yes I know I'm late
So Cassini's about to die, I'm sad but interested in what we could find out.
Thoughts?

It's about to crash into Saturn now. Maybe we will learn something interesting about Saturn's atmosphere.

Why did we cancel project Orion?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_(nuclear_propulsion)

>Project Orion was a study of a spacecraft intended to be directly propelled by a series of explosions of atomic bombs behind the craft (nuclear pulse propulsion). Early versions of this vehicle were proposed to take off from the ground with significant associated nuclear fallout; later versions were presented for use only in space.

probably because it would be impractical to use nuclear-based propulsion until we get a stable way to turn it into thrust with minimal consequences and near zero chance to fuck up and "minimal consequences and near zero chance to fuck up" aren't something normally associated with a megaton-blast from a fission bomb.

They used smaller kiloton-blasts. Maybe we could use fuel-air bombs for the same effect.

still, assuming we're talking about fission bombs, the fuel is fairly hard to come by and we have only a very sparing amount of it. it wouldn't be suitable as a fuel source through a one-time explosion as that would be fairly wasteful of all the energy going in every direction but the one the ship's going towards. If we're talking about fusion bombs, then it would still be wasteful, as the fusion fuel could be much better used once we manage to figure out fusion reactors, especially as the amounts of that we have are being lost to the solar winds in the uppermost atmosphere at a fairly constant rate.

But fuel air bombs don't require fissile material.

ah, I assumed we were still talking about nuclear arms. I concede that this would be easier to do, but what happens when we get going fast enough that the bombs no longer provide ample thrust to accelerate us forward, or we move too quickly into the explosion supposed to slow us down and sustain damage?

>but what happens when we get going fast enough that the bombs no longer provide ample thrust to accelerate us forward
Then we no longer need to use them. The Orion had estimated top speeds from anywhere between 3-11% the speed of light.

>or we move too quickly into the explosion supposed to slow us down and sustain damage?
This could be a major problem one solution that was proposed was using magnetic sail to decelerate the space craft as it approached its destination but I'm not sure how close that technology is.

SPACE CRAFT
So, the Orion project was, in my personal opinion, a great idea. Sadly due to time and
>muh neclear disarment
It will never come to be because nukes in space scare people.

So what does everyone here think about the "Mythical" EM thruster?
Also great channel for this shit is Isaac Arthur. I really enjoy his videos

I like the idea of the EM thruster, however I'm still not entirely sure about it's viability in actual use. If it works, it will usher in a new age of space travel unseen since the days of Apollo 11, and if it doesn't, we're back to square 1 or whatever we're on now.
